Important event information

Racegoers are reminded that the annual Anzac Day NRL match will be held at nearby Sydney Cricket Ground so traffic may be heavier than usual on roads in Randwick and Moore Park. As well Anzac Day commemorations will be taking place in the Sydney CBD throughout the day with major road closures and parking restrictions until around 4pm.

Attendees are encouraged to catch public transport to and from the Races to avoid delays. If you are planning on driving, allow additional time.

Opal

You can use an Opal card for all modes of public transport in Sydney and surrounding regions, including trains, buses, ferries and light rail. There is also a Travel Cap of $2.70 on Sundays.

If you have an American Express, Mastercard or Visa debit or credit card which displays the contactless payment symbol, or linked device, you can use it to pay for your travel by tapping on and off at Opal card readers on trains, light rail and Sydney Ferries. Keep in mind if you’re travelling by bus you still need to use an Opal card. Standard (peak) Adult Opal fare pricing applies. If you consistently use the same contactless card or linked device to tap on and tap off, you may qualify for Opal daily, weekly and Sunday fare caps but no other Opal benefits apply.

The closest station to Royal Randwick Racecourse is Central. Many regular Sydney Bus services run from Eddy Avenue to Randwick with stops near the racecourse.

Trackwork

Weeknight trackwork will be taking place on Thursday 25 April and may affect how you travel to and from the event:

  • T1 Western Line and T5 Cumberland Line: From 19:50 until 02:00, buses replace trains between Richmond and Blacktown. Buses towards Blacktown depart stations Richmond to Marayong up to 20 minutes earlier than the normal timetable.

Trackwork is carried out on an ongoing basis to maintain the safety, reliability, and efficiency of the Sydney Trains network. To note: the Epping to Chatswood rail line has been temporarily closed for upgrades ahead of Sydney Metro North West services starting in mid 2019. The high-frequency bus service, Station Link, replaces trains between Epping and Chatswood. For more information on Station Link, visit transportnsw.info.

Event shuttle buses will not be running for this race day however plenty of regular bus services towards Randwick leave from Eddy Ave at Central and make stops along Alison Rd including routes 372 and 376.

Regular Sydney Buses services also travel between the City and Eastern Suburbs via Anzac Parade and Alison Road get you to Randwick Racecourse including routes 339, 373, 374, 377 and M50.

Catch one of the many ferry services to Circular Quay and change for a train service to Central. From Central Station you can catch a regular Sydney Bus service to Alison Road.

Light rail services run between Central Station and Dulwich Hill with stops at popular CBD and Inner West destinations. From Central you can connect with a regular bus service to Randwick.

Traffic changes for CBD and South East Light Rail construction may affect how you travel. Plan ahead and allow extra time when travelling in the South East.

Taxis may enter and exit the Royal Randwick Racecourse via Oaks Drive (entry off Ascot Street from the Doncaster Avenue roundabout). Taxis are not allowed to stop on Alison Road. For details of taxi networks servicing the Sydney area visit NSW Taxi Council.

Limited car parking may be available at the infield car park and entry is off High Street. Members Private Reserved Parking is off the Abbottsford entry. Members Reserved Parking in the Infield is on the Eastern side of the road. Patrons must display their “members car park permit” at all times.
