Opal

You can use an Opal card for all modes of public transport in Sydney and surrounding regions, including trains, buses, ferries and light rail. There is also a Travel Cap of $2.70 on Sundays.

Remember to top up your Opal card before you travel to avoid waiting in line at top-up machines. You can top up your card online or at an Opal retailer.

More ways to pay

If you have an American Express, Mastercard or Visa debit or credit card which displays the contactless payment symbol, or linked device, you can use it to pay for your travel by tapping on and off at Opal card readers on trains, light rail and Sydney Ferries. Keep in mind if you’re travelling by bus you still need to use an Opal card. Standard (peak) Adult Opal fare pricing applies. If you consistently use the same contactless card or linked device to tap on and tap off, you may qualify for Opal daily, weekly and Sunday fare caps but no other Opal benefits apply.

Sydney Metro services are high-frequency, driverless trains running between Tallawong Station and Chatswood Station. Trackwork is taking place during the event, with buses replacing Metro services on the weekend. Catch a rail replacement bus to Epping to connect with train services to the city.

You can use your Opal card or accepted contactless payment method on Sydney Metro services.

For Metro service disruption information, check trackwork and travel alerts or plan your trip using the Trip Planner. For more information and to plan your trip, see Sydney Metro.

The closest station to Royal Randwick Racecourse is Central. Many regular Sydney Bus services run from Eddy Avenue to Randwick with stops near the racecourse.
