New Blue Mountains train services for visitors

From 26 November, visitors to the Blue Mountains will enjoy more train services, with more seats, new express trains and reduced travel times on some services.

Weekday visitors will be able to take advantage of the new Sydney to Lithgow express service for day trips outside of busy times.

The new weekday express leaves Central Station at 8.50am allowing a relaxed start to the day. It takes just under two and a half hours to reach Lithgow, allowing you to take in all the amazing landscapes of the Blue Mountains. Or you could alight at Springwood, Katoomba or Mount Victoria stations to take in the local attractions, culture and beauty of the villages dotted along the mountain line.

A new return weekday express service leaves Lithgow at 1.18pm in the afternoon, so you can enjoy three to four hours exploring your favourite mountains destination before boarding the express train back to Sydney.

If you are travelling to or from the Blue Mountains on weekdays there will be more seats available. Those changing at Lithgow for regional coach services will also benefit for improved travel times.

In addition to the new Lithgow express, improvements include:

  • 24 new express services between Sydney and the Blue Mountains on weekends.
  • New dedicated 8-car express trains to and from the Blue Mountains, cutting approximately 20 minutes on return travel times between Sydney and Katoomba
  • 25,000 additional seats every week, including an extra 18,000 on weekends;

The changes are part of the NSW Government’s ‘More Trains, More Services’ program, an initiative to deliver extra train services to meet growing demand.
