The Casino XPT and Brisbane XPT both run daily from Sydney with connecting coaches to Byron Bay from Casino or Grafton.
Byron Bay is a surfing mecca with its unique and beautiful collection of north, east and south facing beaches, plus warm water, good waves and stunning views. With its balmy weather and water temperature, it's an excellent place to surf and swim all year round. As well as having views of distant mountains, Byron's white sandy beaches often boast glimpses of passing whales and dolphins.
The Cape Byron Lighthouse, built in 1901 to alert passing ships to the dangers of the coast, stands on top of the 94 metre cliff at mainland Australia's most easterly point. As well as stunning sunset and sunrise views, you are likely to see dolphins, turtles, whales in season and wallabies around the Cape Byron Headland Reserve.
During May to October, Cape Byron is one of the best on-land vantage points for watching the annual migration of the humpback whale as they head north from May to July to have their calves and then return with their young during August to October.
The Cape Byron Marine Park extends all around Cape Byron, from Brunswick Heads in the north to Lennox Head in the south. The snorkelling and diving at Julian Rocks are excellent, and because this is where the warm and cool waters meet, you'll be amazed by the enormous diversity of marine species.
Byron Bay is located near some of the best examples of sub-tropical rainforest on the east coast of Australia and is surrounded by national parks such as The Boatharbour Nature Reserve, Nightcap National Park, Mount Warning and Broken Head Reserve. The Nightcap National Park includes the famous Protestors Falls and Minyon Falls, and Mount Warning is the remnant of an enormous volcano that erupted 20 million years ago.
Due to its beauty and easy going lifestyle, Byron Bay has more artists and artisans as residents than most cities and towns in Australia. Make time to visit the numerous studios and galleries and take home an original creation as a happy memento.
As well as spectacular national parks, Byron Bay’s beautiful hinterland offers several peaceful rural towns and farms. Take a day trip to Nimbin and get in touch with your alternative side. Travel to Bangalow and explore cafe's, galleries and therapists' shops and then venture down the walking track along the edge of Byron Creek to a stunning rain forest. See the laid-back and traditional coastal town of Brunswick Heads and visit Mullumbimby to walk through the rainforest of Brunswick Valley Heritage Park. Amble along the famous Buddha Walk lined with rose quartz and hand carved statues at Crystal Castle.
Shop til you drop at the various boutiques and markets at Byron where you will find original fashion, arts and crafts, exotic foods and a myriad of other exciting goodies.
