Key to icons and line codes
Sydney Metro Network – the Metro North West Line runs between Tallawong Station and Chatswood Station, via Macquarie University.
Sydney Trains Network – Sydney metropolitan area train services bounded by Berowra to the north, Bondi Junction to the east, Waterfall to the south, Macarthur and Leppington to the south west, Emu Plains and Richmond to the west.
Intercity Trains Network – outer Sydney metropolitan area train services to the Blue Mountains to the west, Central Coast and Hunter to the north, Illawarra and South Coast to the south and Southern Highlands to the south west.
Abbreviation codes – Next to the Train icon in the Trip Planner results, there will be an abbreviation or code of up to 3 letters referring to a specific line, at the bottom of this page you can find a key to each of these codes.

Sydney Ferries Network – Sydney metropolitan area ferry services bounded by Neutral Bay, Mosman Bay, Taronga Zoo and Manly to the north, Watsons Bay to the east and Darling Harbour and Parramatta to the west.
Newcastle Ferries – outer Sydney metropolitan area ferry services between Queens Wharf and Stockton.

|Temporary trains – used to identify special trains, such as special event services.|
|Temporary buses – buses that replace trains, ferries and light rail due to trackwork or disruptions or Sydney Olympic Park event buses.|
|Temporary ferries – used to identify special ferry services, such as special event services.|
|Temporary light rail – used to identify special light rail services, such as special event services.|
|Private bus services – Opal cards are not accepted on these services.|

|Opal – the electronic ticketing system in metropolitan and outer metropolitan areas. Approximate Opal fares are presented in trip plan results on Opal enabled services. Use the interactive map to find your nearest Opal retailer.|
|OpalPay – Opal cards are accepted on participating privately-operated transport services. OpalPay fares are not the same as standard Opal fares. Fares are set by the operators.|
