Travel in comfort on NSW TrainLink’s XPLORER trains
NSW TrainLink's XPLORER trains have been connecting passengers to some of NSW's most scenic destinations since 1993.
Built by ABB Transportation in Victoria, the XPLORER uses proven technology from both Australian and European rail services. It is quiet, fully air-conditioned, and environmentally friendly. The trains can be configured with two, three, five, or more carriages depending on demand.
Unlike the XPT, where power is provided by the first and last carriages, each XPLORER carriage has its own traction and auxiliary engines, working together under the driver's control. The engines are Cummins KTA-19-R 375 kW, 19-litre turbocharged models, and each carriage holds 1,600 litres of fuel, enough for a 1,600 km journey.
The XPLORER operates on the following routes:

Saloon - economy class motor carriage (EB)
Seating capacity: 66
The XPLORER trains can have the following carriages.
Buffet and saloon - first class motor carriage (EA)
Seating capacity: 42

Saloon - economy class motor carriage (EC)
Seating capacity: 38 plus two wheelchair spaces. The accessible toilet is in this carriage.
