Link your concession for new ways to pay
From Thursday 16 April, TAFE students, apprentices and trainees eligible for Concession fares can now tap on and tap off public transport using your phone, watch or credit or debit card – it's faster, easier and you get the exact same fares and benefits as an Opal card.
To use it:
- Sign up to Transport Connect
- Link your concession entitlement and your credit or debit card
- Tap on and tap off with the same card or device each time you travel
You’ll get the same:
- Opal discounted concession fares
- Opal transfer discounts and off-peak savings
- Daily and weekly Opal travel caps
To receive your Concession fare and benefits when using a credit or debit card, phone or smartwatch, you must link your concession entitlement through Transport Connect. If you switch between different cards or devices, you may be charged the full adult fare.
How to get started
Go to Transport Connect and follow the prompts to link your concession and your credit or debit card.
Make sure you use the same one each time so your fares are calculated correctly.
You’ll still need to carry your valid proof of concession entitlement when travelling.
Why switch?
Same fare, same benefits
You’ll pay the same Opal concession fare, with daily and weekly travel caps, transfer discounts and off-peak savings.
Easy and convenient
Travel with the same payment method each time with no top-ups needed, just tap and go.
Works on your phone or smartwatch
Use Apple Pay, Google Pay or Samsung Pay for a seamless experience.
Secure and reliable
Your payment details are encrypted and protected, just like any other tap-and-go purchase. American Express, Visa and Mastercard accepted.
