Connect your concession online and choose how to pay

Most senior/pensioner and concession fares* can choose between an Opal card or contactless payments to access their discounted fares.

If you’re eligible, you can open a Transport Connect account online, link your concession and discover more ways to pay with your credit or debit card, phone or watch. It’s faster, easier and you get the exact same fares and benefits as an Opal card.

Whichever option you choose, you’ll receive the same discounted fares and travel benefits you are entitled to including Daily and Weekly caps, transfer discounts and off-peak savings.
 

Remember: you must always tap on and tap off with the same physical or digital version of the credit or debit card at the beginning and end of each trip to ensure you are charged the correct fare. Make sure you use the same card or digital device consistently (and don’t swap between them) to receive all your Opal benefits like daily and weekly caps and transfer discounts.

* Some concession types cannot use Contactless Concessions and must apply for an Opal card for discounted travel, including Free Travel Opal card holders, asylum seekers, Department of Veterans Affairs concession holders, and seniors cards issued outside NSW and ACT.

Note: Interstate seniors who already hold a Gold Opal card can use this in their application to switch to Contactless Concessions. Seniors cards issued outside of NSW and ACT cannot be validated online to sign up for Contactless Concessions, and new applicants will need to opt for a Gold Opal card in the first instance.
