If you are an eligible veteran, the NSW Blinded Soldier Pass provides free travel on public transport in NSW for you and your approved attendant (if your pass is marked ‘Plus Attendant’). You can also apply for a free travel Opal card for convenience.

To apply for a NSW Blinded Soldier Pass, you must meet all the following criteria:

  • You are an Australian or NZ war veteran.
  • You are a permanent NSW resident.
  • You are classified as blinded due to war service by the Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA).

The NSW Blinded Soldier Pass provides eligible recipients with free travel benefits. You can also apply for a free travel Opal card as part of the application process.

You will need:

  • your personal details
  • your DVA file number and a DVA letter confirming entitlement
  • digital copies of two colour passport-sized photos

How to apply:

  • Download and complete the Blinded Soldier Pass application form. (PDF, 303.7KB)
  • Supply:
    • a DVA letter confirming entitlement and any required supporting documents.
    • digital copies of two colour passport-sized photos
  • Upload your completed form, photos, and supporting documents online via the Concessions application form.

Important information

  • The NSW Blinded Soldier Pass is issued free of charge and is valid for up to three years.
  • The optional free travel Opal card is valid for five years or until your entitlement ends.
  • For replacement cards, you can call 131 500. A replacement fee may apply.

The NSW Blinded Soldier Pass is your proof of entitlement, so always carry it with you or you may be fined.

Free travel is generally not available on private ferries, event shuttle buses, charter bus services or Great Southern Rail services. Check with transport operators to find out if they recognise the NSW Blinded Soldier Pass.
