Tertiary proof of entitlement requirements

Find your tertiary institution to confirm your proof of entitlement requirements.

To travel on concession fares on public transport in NSW, you must be able to show proof of entitlement.

Many tertiary student ID cards are recognised as proof of entitlement, but there are exceptions.

If your tertiary student card is not recognised as proof of entitlement, you will need to apply for a Transport Concession Entitlement Card. This is valid on public transport across NSW.

For travel within Sydney and surrounding areas, tertiary students need to apply for a Concession Opal card to access concession fares.

Find your tertiary institution to confirm your proof of entitlement requirements.

Eligible tertiary students enrolled at the following institutions can use their Student ID card as proof of entitlement when travelling with a Concession Opal card in the Opal network.
