Ways to book your ticket

Book a seat on NSW TrainLink Regional services

You can book seats on NSW TrainLink Regional services online, over the phone or in person at selected NSW TrainLink stations and sales agents.

Some bookings need to booked closer to the date of travel. Check the when to book information if you are having trouble finding your service online.

Book online

For the best price, book your fares online through the booking system. You can see the current sale fares and register to save your information for future bookings. Most concession travel can also be booked online.

The online booking system seats people who book together as close as possible on the train, however seating allocations are not guaranteed with web bookings.

There are four steps to make a booking online.

1. Search for services

Select one way or return, enter your origin, destination, preferred travel dates and the number of people travelling. Click "Search".

If you or other members of your group are entitled to concession fares, enter additional information in the drop down menu so we can give you accurate fare information.

2. Select services

The system will show you the available options for departure times, seat classes, fares and connections.

You can browse services for the previous and next days.

Choose a service and seat class for your forward and return journeys. Click "Select and pay" or "Select and add" if you want to book additional journeys.

3. Enter details and pay by credit card or at Australia Post

Enter the names and any concession details of each traveller you're booking for.

You can pay for your tickets by Visa, MasterCard, Diners Club or American Express credit card or Pay it @ POST.

4. Receive confirmation and your ticket

Your booking number and travel details will be displayed on the screen. A copy will be e-mailed to you.

You can use the e-ticket or print the booking confirmation order to use it as your ticket. E-tickets can be shown to staff by using your mobile phone or tablet.

Other ways to book

However, there are some travel arrangements that need to be booked in person or over the phone.. These include bookings for:

You will need to call 13 22 32 or visit your nearest train station or sales agent. However, you can use the online booking system to plan your trip and calculate your fare.

Please have your identification and any entitlement cards for concession fares when you make your booking.

How to pay over the phone

You can use Visa, MasterCard, Diners Club or American Express credit cards. Another payment option is Pay it @ POST. You will be given booking reference number which you take to an Australia Post Office to pay for your fare.

You can book travel and change or cancel bookings at selected NSW TrainLink stations and sales agents across Australia and the world.

Find your nearest sales agent

Some agents may not be able to exchange tickets you have already paid for. Please check with the agent in advance.

How to pay at sales agents and train stations

You can pay by cash or credit card or cheque. Most sales agents will have EFTPOS facilities.

NSW TrainLink has teamed up with Australia Post to provide more payment options to customers.

You can book your ticket online or over the phone, then pay for it in person at your local post office.

Pay it @ POST can be used for:

  • fares $10 and over
  • tickets booked seven days in advance.

Steps to Pay it @ POST

  1. Print out or write down the Australia Post reference number provided by the booking system.
  2. Take this number to your post office and pay by cash or EFTPOS.
  3. As soon as your payment is processed, you will be sent an e-mail confirmation.
  4. Please ensure that you print this confirmation and carry it throughout your journey as this is your ticket.

Changing payment method after booking
