Opal single tickets
You can travel on public transport with Opal single tickets if you do have an Opal card.
About Opal single trip tickets
If you don’t have an Opal card or use contactless payments, you can buy an Opal single trip ticket. These tickets are a back up option for metro/train, ferry and light rail services.
Unless you need Child/Youth fares, it is cheaper and more convenient to tap on and tap off with a contactless-enabled credit, debit card or linked device.
Ticket types
- Opal single tickets are available as Adult or Child/Youth only.
- Child/Youth single tickets are for those aged 4-15 years old or eligible secondary students.
- No other concessions are available.
Ticket rules
- Single use only - You cannot break your journey or get return tickets with Opal single tickets. You need a new ticket for each trip.
- Remember to tap on and tap off with an Opal single ticket, or else you are travelling on an invalid ticket and you may be fined.

- Opal single trip tickets are available at select stations and wharves from top up and single trip ticket machines. If your station or wharf doesn't offer them, use contactless payments or get an Opal card.
- You can buy up to two Adult and two Child/Youth Opal single trip tickets at once.
- Tickets are valid on the day of purchase until 4am the next day.
