Eligibility and concessions

You may be eligible for a concession fare and other travel benefits.

Senior and Pensioner fares

Travel for $2.50 per day

You may qualify for senior or pensioner fares if you belong to one of the following groups.

Seniors

Available to seniors in possession of a valid Seniors Card.

Pensioner

Available to pensioners in possession of a valid Pensioner Concession card.

Asylum seekers

Access reduced fares and apply for a Gold Opal card.

DVA Veteran Gold Card holder

Access reduced fares and apply for a Gold Opal card.

You can get reduced fares if you're a student, apprentice, or eligible based on your income.

Tertiary and TAFE students

Eligible students access concession fares.

Apprentices and trainees

Eligible apprentices and trainees access concession fares.

Centrelink customers

Eligible people receiving benefits access concession fares.

Child and youth

Children 3 and under travel free. Children (aged 4 - 15) and eligible Secondary students (aged 16 and over) pay Child fares.

Free travel

The following people, including veterans and those with disabilities, are entitled to free travel if eligible.

Ex-members of Defence Force with a disability

Apply for a Transport Concession Entitlement Card for free travel.

NSW blinded soldiers (and an attendant)

Free travel for eligible veterans with a NSW Blinded Soldier Pass.

WWI Veteran’s Widows

Also George Cross / Victoria Cross recipients, their spouses or their widow/ers.

People with a Vision Impairment Pass

The VIP Travel Pass gives free or discounted travel. If marked "Plus Attendant", your attendant travels free too.

Companion Card holders

The companion or carer travels free, but the cardholder must have a valid ticket.

Current and former employees

If you’ve worked for Transport for NSW or another transport agency, you may be eligible for concession fares.

Primary and secondary students in NSW might be entitled to free or discounted travel to and from school.
