NSW TrainLink offers affordable fares for families travelling with children.


Child $1 Fare

Travel anywhere on NSW TrainLink with $1 fares for children (aged 4 - 15) and eligible students. Conditions apply.

Family Fare 

Travel affordably with NSW TrainLink’s Family Fare. Pay the $1 Child fare for your first two kids, and any extra children travel for free. Conditions apply.

How to book

If travelling with small children, book over the phone on 13 22 32 (+61 2 3814 0210 if calling from overseas) or through an NSW TrainLink sales agents. This helps ensure your group is seated together.

For online bookings, select the checkbox for ‘All passengers are from the same family/household’. The booking system will calculate the fare based on the number of Adult and Child seats, giving you the lowest overall cost.

Does your child need to travel alone?

  • Children under the age of 12 cannot travel alone and must be accompanied by an adult (aged 16 years or older). 
  • Children aged 12 to 15 may travel alone, but they should inform staff either before or soon after boarding.

How to book an unaccompanied child

Book over the phone on 13 22 32 (+61 2 3814 0210 if calling from overseas) or book through one of the NSW TrainLink sales agents.

You will need to provide a contact number for a guardian or the person meeting the child at their destination. This information is important for emergencies.

On the day of travel, the unaccompanied child should make themselves known to staff before or soon after boarding.
