Personal medical needs

Travel with medical equipment or medication on NSW TrainLink Regional services.

If you're travelling on NSW TrainLink Regional trains or coach services with medical equipment, please inform the staff handling your booking to discuss your requirements. You can make the necessary arrangements when you book with NSW TrainLink or your sales agent.

For any enquiries, speak with the NSW TrainLink Contact Centre staff on 13 22 32.

Before your journey, be sure to review safety, etiquette and accessibility information.

Medication

If you require medication during your trip, make sure to carry it in your hand luggage. Do not leave it in your checked baggage.

Diabetic passengers must carry a sufficient supply of disposable syringes.

Portable oxygen cylinders

If carrying a portable oxygen cylinder, it should:

  • be of type B, CS, CH, CL or D
  • have a travel pack or trolley
  • have a suitable strap to secure the unit to the seat
  • not exceed 13 kilograms in total weight (including trolley, straps and cylinders)
  • contain enough oxygen to meet your needs in the event that your service is delayed

Throughout your journey, keep the cylinder upright and secured by its straps to the train or coach seat at all times.

You must be able to carry the cylinder on and off the train or coach, as staff cannot assist with this.

Due to space limitations, customers needing more than one oxygen cylinder may need to wait for their reservation to be confirmed before finalising their travel plans.

Oxygen concentrators

If you're travelling with a concentrator, please ensure the unit has sufficient battery life for the duration of your journey, including possible service delays.

Note: Batteries cannot be recharged on board as a continuous 240-volt power supply cannot be guaranteed.

Medical equipment on board

NSW TrainLink Regional train and coach services are equipped with:

  • First aid kits: Available on request from onboard staff.
  • Defibrillators: A device that can restart the heart during a cardiac arrest by delivering a quick shock to restore a normal heartbeat. They are simple to use and can be operated by anyone, even without medical training in an emergency.

Note: Please inform our crew if you are travelling for surgery related to a heart condition.
