Get ready for your journey with these tips and conditions.

Before you travel

  • Check the schedule: Check departure and arrival times in advance. View timetables.
  • Stay informed:
    • Check travel alerts before and on the day of travel.
    • To get SMS updates, provide your Australian mobile number when booking. 
    • For recorded information, call 13 22 32 for the latest train schedules, platform details, and disruptions.
  • Time zone differences: Be aware of time zone changes and daylight-saving time. Train schedules are usually adjusted, but printed timetables may not reflect this.  
  • Consider purchasing travel insurance for unexpected events like cancellations or lost luggage.

On the day of travel

  • Arrival time: Arrive more than 30 minutes before departure if you're checking in luggage. Check-in closes 30 minutes before departure.
  • Carry your concession card: If travelling on a concession fare, you must bring your proof of entitlement or risk a fine.
  • Check your baggage: Ensure your luggage meets the allowance for travel.
  • Pack entertainment: Bring books, music, or a device to help pass the time.

Train journeys

Most NSW TrainLink trains have a buffet car where you can buy snacks, drinks, and hot or cold meals.  You are welcome to bring your own food and beverages if you prefer.

Coach journeys

Food and drink, with the exception of water, is generally not permitted on coach services. Refreshment stops may be available during the trip.

Bringing your alcohol (BYO alcohol) is not allowed on any NSW TrainLink service or at stations.

By booking with NSW TrainLink, you agree to the conditions of travel. Ticket conditions apply once your ticket is issued.

Lost property

Lost items may be kept for up to 7 days, then sent to the Transport Lost Property Office. Unclaimed items are disposed of after 28 days.
