OpalPay

Use your Opal card in even more places with OpalPay.

Introduction

OpalPay is a convenient way to pay for travel using your Opal card on participating private ferries.

OpalPay lets you tap to pay on a wider range of transport services, giving you more flexibility and more choice about where you can go with your Opal card. Simply tap to pay with your Opal card wherever you see 'OpalPay accepted here'.

How OpalPay fares work

  • OpalPay fares are different from standard Opal fares. Check the fare price with the operator and make sure you have sufficient funds on your Opal card to cover the trip.
  • OpalPay trips do not count towards Opal travel benefits including Daily, Weekly and Friday/Weekend travel caps, Transfer Discounts or Trip Advantage. This includes the $2.50 Daily Cap for Gold Senior/Pensioner Opal card holders.
  • Discounts or benefits offered by private operators may not apply with OpalPay. Check with operators for fare details.

Accepted Opal cards

The following cards can be used with OpalPay:

  • Adult Opal cards
  • Child/Youth Opal cards
  • Gold Senior/Pensioner Opal cards
  • Concession Opal cards

Please note:

  • Free travel Opal cards, School Opal cards and Opal single trip tickets are not accepted with OpalPay.
  • Concession fares are not offered on all services, even when Child/Youth, Gold Senior/Pensioner or Concession Opal cards are used. Check with operators for fare details.

How to pay with OpalPay

  • Check the operator's fares before travelling to ensure sufficient funds on your Opal card.
  • Tap on to the operator’s payment device (not an Opal card reader).
  • OpalPay fares will be deducted from your Opal card when you tap on, so you don’t need to tap off at the end of your trip.
  • Top up your balance online before you travel, or use the Opal Travel app to top up on the go. You can also top up at nearby Opal retailers.
