OpalPay is a convenient way to pay for travel using your Opal card on participating transport services, including selected private ferries and On Demand public transport.
With OpalPay, you can use your Opal card on a wider range of transport services. You don’t need another card, you can just tap to pay with your Opal card for a handy way to pay your fare.
OpalPay is available wherever you see 'OpalPay accepted here'.
How OpalPay fares work
OpalPay fares are not the same as standard Opal fares. Check the fare price with the operator and make sure you have sufficient funds on your Opal card to cover the trip.
OpalPay trips do not count towards Opal travel benefits including Weekly Travel Rewards, Transfer Discounts, Travel Caps or Trip Advantage. This includes the $2.50 Daily Cap for Gold Senior/Pensioner Opal card holders.
Travel discounts or benefit schemes offered by private operators to regular or frequent customers may not apply with OpalPay. Check with operators for fare details.
Check with staff to find out if concession fares are available before you tap to pay with your Opal card. Concession fares are not offered on all services, even when Child/Youth, Gold Senior/Pensioner or Concession Opal cards are used.
The following cards can be used with OpalPay:
Free travel Opal cards, School Opal cards and Opal single trip tickets are not accepted with OpalPay.
How to pay with OpalPay
Check the operator's fares before you travel and make sure you have sufficient funds on your Opal card to cover the cost of your trip.
Tap on to the operator’s payment device. Be careful not to tap on to an Opal card reader.
OpalPay fares will be deducted from your Opal card when you tap on, so you won’t need to tap off at the end of your trip.
