Who pays Concession fares?

Concession fares are for:

  • eligible tertiary students
  • Centrelink customers
  • apprentices and trainees.

Check your eligibility and find out how to apply.

When using a Concession Opal card, you must also carry your proof of entitlement card. If not, you must pay an Adult fare, using an Adult Opal card or contactless payment, to avoid fines.

Don’t forget to tap off, or you’ll be charged a default fare which is the maximum possible fare for your trip. You will never be charged more than the Daily Travel cap.

You can use the Trip Planner or Opal Travel app to plan your trip and estimate the Opal fares.
