About the Country Pensioner Excursion ticket

The Country Pensioner Excursion (CPE) ticket offers affordable travel for eligible pensioners and seniors in regional NSW and the ACT.

For $2.50 you can book an Economy Class seat on a NSW TrainLink Regional train service. Bookings must be made within 7 days of your travel date.

Eligibility

You can buy a CPE ticket if you have one of these cards:

  • Seniors Card from any Australian state or territory.
  • NSW, Victorian or ACT Pensioner Concession Card. (Pensioners from other states and territories pay half fare).
  • NSW, ACT or Victorian War Widow/er Transport Concession Card.
  • DVA Veteran Gold Card.
  • Asylum Seekers Transport Concession Entitlement Card.

Using your CPE ticket

  • Booking required: You must book your trip before you travel. Bookings must be made 7 days or less before travel. If not, you will pay the regular concession fare.
  • Multiple stops: You can make several stops on one ticket - including returning to place of origin - if:
    • You do not stop for more than 12 hours.
    • You complete your journey as shown on the ticket.
    • You complete your journey on the same day as you start travelling.
  • Carry your concession card: You must show it to Transport staff if requested.

Where you cannot use CPE tickets

CPE tickets are not valid for:

  • travel in the Opal network in NSW TrainLink Intercity or Sydney Trains areas (e.g., Sydney, Wollongong, Newcastle).
  • travel to interstate destinations (Queensland, Victoria, South Australia).

If you wish to travel through these areas, use the half-fare entitlement with your Pensioner Concession Card or Seniors Card or use a Pensioner Travel Voucher. 

If you are only travelling within the Opal network, you can use a Gold Senior/Pensioner Opal card.

Where to buy a CPE ticket

You can buy tickets:

  • Online: Select the concession type: Country Pension Excursion Fare when booking. Book online
  • Phone: Call 13 22 32.
  • In person: At train stations and sales agents outside Sydney. Find NSW TrainLink sales agents.

Note: CPE tickets cannot be purchased at stations within Sydney or the surrounding boundary area. This includes Central Station. View the boundary map (PDF, 628.3KB).

Terms and conditions

  • Tickets must be booked within seven days of the date of travel.
  • You need to provide your concession card number when booking and you must carry both your ticket and concession card with you during your journey.
  • CPE tickets cannot be used within the area bounded by - and including - Sydney, Nowra, Moss Vale, Lithgow, Muswellbrook, Maitland, Karuah, and Bowral.
  • The ticket is not transferable.
