Enjoy free and discounted travel on NSW TrainLink Regional services for eligible pensioners and seniors.
Eligibility
You are eligible for four Pensioner Travel Vouchers each calendar year if you hold a:
These vouchers apply to travel within regional NSW.
How to obtain Pension Vouchers
You do not need to apply separately to obtain the vouchers. Four (4) vouchers are automatically issued to eligible cardholders each calendar year.
How to use the Pensioner Travel Voucher
You can use your vouchers for free travel on NSW TrainLink Regional services in Economy Class within regional NSW. This includes up to four one-way trips or two return trips annually.
Upgrades and extra charges
- Upgrade to First Class: Upgrading from Economy to First Class using a Pensioner Travel Voucher costs the greater of:
- $10, or
- the fare difference between Economy and First Class Adult concession fares.
- Sleeping berths: Charges apply if you need a sleeping berth.
- Interstate travel: Pay 50% of the Economy or First Class fare for the portion of your trip beyond NSW.
- Connecting services: You can travel on a Sydney Trains service at no extra charge as long as you book it with your ticket.

How to book with Pensioner Travel Vouchers
Booking online
You can book online anytime by following these simple steps:
- Search for a one-way or return trip by entering your origin, destination and travel dates.
- Click on “Add concession/pass” and select your relevant concession type from the drop down menu (for example, “Pensioner” or “NSW War Widow”).
- Enter your concession details. Type the number without dashes, spaces, or any letters before the number. Include the letter at the end of the number. Enter your first and family name exactly as they appear on the card.
Example: If your card shows “CRN 1234 5678 9 A”, enter 123456789A - Search for available trips, choose one, and follow the prompts to issue your ticket.
You’ll receive your ticket by email. When travelling, show your ticket on your mobile.
Booking by phone
You can also book over the phone by calling 13 22 32.
Remember: Always carry your concession card when you travel, as the onboard crew will need to check it.
Checking your voucher balance
NSW TrainLink tracks your Pensioner Travel Vouchers. You can check how many you have left anytime online by following these simple steps:
- Search for any one-way or return trip by entering your origin, destination and travel dates.
- Click on “Add concession/pass” and select “Pensioner”
- Select NSW or ACT
- Enter your Concession details by adding your first name and family as listed in your card. Type the number without dashes, spaces, or any letters before the number. Include the letter at the end of the number. If your card shows “CRN 1234 5678 9 A”, enter 123456789A
- Click on “Check my concession travel vouchers”

When all your vouchers are used
When all four vouchers have been used, you can still take advantage of other travel concessions, such as:
- $2.50 per journey segment with the Country Pensioner Excursion ticket for booked NSW TrainLink Regional services.
- $2.50 all-day travel with the Regional Excursion Daily ticket on local buses.
- Half-price fares on NSW TrainLink Regional services.
