Concession Opal fares
Who pays Concession fares?
Concession fares are for:
- eligible tertiary students
- Centrelink customers
- apprentices and trainees.

When using a Concession Opal card, you must also carry your proof of entitlement card. If not, you must pay an Adult fare, using an Adult Opal card or contactless payment, to avoid fines.
Don’t forget to tap off, or you’ll be charged a default fare which is the maximum possible fare for your trip. You will never be charged more than the Daily Travel cap.

Daily and Weekly Caps
With a Concession Opal card you can travel as much as you want on metro, train, bus, ferry and light rail services within the Opal network and you never pay more than:
- $9.35 a day (Monday to Thursdays)
- $4.65 on Friday, Saturday, Sunday and public holidays
- $25 a week
Please note that:
- The Opal week runs from Monday to Sunday.
- The Sydney Airport station access fee is not included in the Daily or Weekly Travel Caps however there is a separate weekly cap on the station access fee.
Peak and off-peak times
You will receive a 30% fare discount on metro/train, bus and light rail services when travelling on Fridays, weekends, public holidays and outside of the peak times. Find out more.
