Activate an Opal card

If you applied for an Opal card online or over the phone, you will need to activate it if you added value to the card. Once it has arrived in the mail, you can activate it online.

1. Log in to your Opal account
2. Find your Opal card. You will see an ‘Activate card’ link over your new card
3. Activate your card. Click or tap on the link, check the card number and enter the security number on the back of your card

• Added money during ordering? Tap on at an Opal reader to transfer the balance to your card.
• Wait time for balance availability: Your balance may take up to 60 minutes to become available, though it’s often ready within 15 minutes.
• Tap on within 60 days: You must tap on at an Opal reader within 60 days to transfer the balance to your card.
