Event information

A sold-out crowd of 30,000 will attend the first NRL game at the new Bankwest Stadium. With Parramatta transport interchange within a short 15 minute walking distance the best way to get to and from Bankwest Stadium is by public transport.

Match tickets include travel on public transport. Trains to Parramatta run every 10 to 15 minutes and additional bus services will run throughout the day.

Roads approaching Parramatta are expected to be busy approaching the area so if you are planning on driving, allow additional travel time.

Valid pre-purchased match tickets include travel to and from Bankwest Stadium in Parramatta on the following public transport services:

  • Train services (bounded by Bomaderry, Goulburn, Bathurst, Scone and Dungog stations)
  • Regular bus services
  • Sydney Ferries and Newcastle Ferries 
  • Sydney and Newcastle Light rail services

Remember to keep your event ticket safe for your return journey or you’ll need to use your Opal card or accepted contactless payment method as you must have a valid ticket when travelling on public transport. Your event ticket is valid on public transport until 04:00 the following day.

Note: an additional station access fee applies for travel to or from Domestic and International Airport stations. Your event ticket does not include the access fee, so if you're travelling from these stations you'll need to pay the train station access fee.

The closest station to Bankwest Stadium is Parramatta which is approximately a 15 minute walk via Argyle St, Church St, the Riverside Walk or through Prince Alfred Square to the Stadium on O'Connell St. Alternatively, make your way down Church St, George St or Phillip St then O'Connell St. Please note the Riverside Walk is not an accessible route. Trains run every 10 to 15 minutes to Parramatta in both directions. Additional express services are also running for the Sydney Royal Easter Show until midnight.

Trackwork

Trackwork is taking place from 02:00 Friday 19 April until 02:00 Tuesday 23 April and may affect how you travel to and from the event:

  • T1 Western Line and T5 Cumberland Line: Buses will replace trains between Richmond and Schofields. T1 Western Line Trains run to a changed timetable between Schofields and Olympic Park.
  • T4 Eastern Suburbs & Illawarra Line and South Coast Line: Buses will replace trains between Bondi Junction and Central. T4 Illawarra Line trains start and end at North Sydney. South Coast Line trains run between South Coast Stations and the City Circle, from Central fist stop Town Hall.

Trackwork is carried out on an ongoing basis to maintain the safety, reliability, and efficiency of the Sydney Trains network. To note: the Epping to Chatswood rail line has been temporarily closed for upgrades ahead of Sydney Metro North West services starting in mid 2019. The high-frequency bus service, Station Link, replaces trains between Epping and Chatswood. For more information on Station Link, visit transportnsw.info.

Route buses

Plenty of regular route bus services run to and from Parramatta Interchange which is within a 15 minute walking distance of Bankwest Stadium. From the interchange head down Argyle St, Church St and take either the Riverside Walk or walk through Prince Alfred Square to get to the stadium on O'Connell St. See the Bankwest Stadium transport and walking map (pdf 1.7MB) for more details on how to get to and from the stadium.

Additional services from the North West, Western suburbs and the City will run to and from Parramatta:

The following routes will run services every 5 to 10 minutes to and from Parramatta throughout the day between approximately 1:30pm and 8:00pm

  • Route T65 between Rouse Hill and Parramatta
  • Route T80 between Liverpool and Parramatta
  • Route 601 between Rouse Hill and Parramatta
  • Route M52 between Circular Quay and Parramatta Interchange
  • Route M60 between Castle Hill Station and Parramatta Interchange
  • Route 549 between Epping and Parramatta via North Rocks will run every 15 minutes from 1pm to 8pm

Plenty of other regular bus routes also run to Parramatta and stop within walking distance of the stadium including routes T80, 603, 606, 609, 625 and M54.

The free Parramatta CBD shuttle bus (route 900) runs regularly from 7am until 5pm but keep in mind this service is limited and will be busy so consider the short 10 minute walk to the stadium instead. See the Shuttle Bus Map for stop locations.

Accessible shuttle bus

An accessible shuttle bus service will operate from 1:30pm until 7:45pm between Parramatta Interchange and the Stadium for patrons with accessibility or mobility needs. Services pick up and drop off on Argyle St just after Church St outside Parramatta Westfield and on O'Connell St at the Parramatta Leagues Club.

The closest wharf stop to Bankwest Stadium is Parramatta Wharf which is approximately a 20 minute walk to the stadium. Alternatively, connect with the route 900 shuttle from Parramatta Wharf which will drop you off near the stadium.

Sydney Ferries services are very popular and may reach capacity especially on weekends. Keep this in mind if you’re planning on catching an F3 Parramatta River service. Use the Trip Planner and consider the alternative public transport options available.

Light rail services run between Central Station and Dulwich Hill with stops at popular CBD and Inner West destinations. From Central change for a Western Line train to Parramatta.

Traffic will be heavy on roads approaching the stadium including Parramatta Rd, Church St, Victoria Rd, James Ruse Dr and Pennant Hills Rd. Traffic is also expected to be heavier than normal in the area with the Easter Show taking place nearby at Olympic Park. 

Roads around the stadium will be closed from 5.30pm until approximately 7pm or until crowds have cleared:

  • O’Connell St from Grose St to George St
  • Ross St from O’Connell St to Trott St
  • Victoria Rd from O’Connell St to Villiers St

Motorists are advised to allow plenty of extra travel time through Parramatta CBD area and consider travelling via Parkes St, Harris St, Macarthur St and Isabella St or Victoria Rd instead to avoid the delays.

Motorists should also exercise caution as pedestrian activity will be high on roads between Parramatta Interchange and the Stadium as crowds arrive and leave the area.

A secure taxi rank is located at Parramatta Westfield on Fitzwilliam Street.

An alternate taxi rank is located on the eastern side of Villiers St between Ross St and Victoria Rd.

Note: O’Connell St is a no-stopping zone and taxis or any other vehicles are not permitted to drop off or pick up any passengers at any time. Closures will also be in place along O'Connell St, Ross St and Victoria Rd. Attendees who are being picked up or dropped off are encouraged to pre-plan a location away from the stadium.

Limited parking is available in the stadium's southern car park. Motorists are advised that during the event road closures vehicles will not be able to exit the car park until the roads have reopened approximately an hour after full time.

Attendees are encouraged to leave the car at home and catch public transport as travel is included in their event ticket.

Accessible Event Shuttle bus

For patrons with mobility impairments or accessibility requirement a dedicated accessible shuttle bus will run between Parramatta Interchange and the Stadium on event days.

The accessible shuttle bus service will operate from 1:30pm until 7:45pm. Services pick up and drop off on Argyle St just after Church St outside Parramatta Westfield and on O'Connell St at the Parramatta Leagues Club.
