Important event information
This year the Sydney Marathon event has evolved into a two-day festival offering three iconic courses including a 5km mini marathon on Saturday and the 42km marathon and 10km events on Sunday. More than 50,000 participants are expected to take part across the two days with 35,000 taking part in the iconic main event, the Sydney Marathon.
On Sunday 31 August, major road closures and transport changes in place from North Sydney, the Sydney CBD to Kingsford. On Saturday 30 August, the Mini Marathon 5km course will be held in the Sydney CBD with more localised road closures and impacts to buses in the city.
Top tips to plan your trip:
- Travel on public transport is included for all Sydney Marathon participants, simply show your race bib to transport staff when boarding services. Note, an additional station access fee applies for travel to and from Sydney International and Domestic Airport Stations.
- Saturday: catch transport services to Circular Quay or Martin Place to get within walking distance of the start line on Macquarie St in the city.
- Sunday: catch transport services including metro, trains and buses to North Sydney or Crows Nest to get within walking distance of the start line at North Sydney Oval and St Leonards Park. Plenty of extra early-morning transport services will be running
- Marathon participants in start groups Red and Orange should arrive via Victoria Cross Metro Station or North Sydney Train Station. Participants in start group Green should arrive via Crows Nest Metro Station.
- With major road closures on Sunday along and surrounding the 42km marathon course and widespread special event clearway parking restrictions in effect, driving to and from the event is not an option on race day. Leave the car at home and let transport get you there and home again.
- Be aware that due to the event road closures, buses and light rail services will be heavily impacted. You may need to change transport modes to continue your trip to the start line, and on your way back home.
- There are a number of spectator live sites across the course to cheer on the participants. For details visit the TCS Sydney Marathon event website.
Traffic changes
- On Sunday, travel across the city will be limited with lengthy detours in place. Sydneysiders are urged to avoid non-essential travel where possible. If you do need to drive on event day allow plenty of extra travel time and expect trips to take longer than usual.
- Major roads in North Sydney, the Sydney CBD, Pyrmont, Darlinghurst, Moore Park and Kingsford will be closed between 2am and 4pm for Sydney Marathon events. See detailed closure listing below.
- The Harbour Bridge and Western Distributor will close from 3am to 11am, Cahill Expressway closed until 11.30am, and major roads from the city to Moore Park will be closed until 3.30pm including College St, Oxford St, and Park St, Flinders St until 3pm. Macquarie St will remain closed until 4pm, while Anzac Pde from Moore Park to Kingsford will be closed from 5am to 1.30pm this year.
- Motorists will only be able to travel east/west across the course via the Cross City Tunnel which will be toll-free from 5am to 4.30pm or via surface roads along Bunnerong Rd, Maroubra Rd and Avoca St in the South East. The Eastern Distributor Bondi Moore Park Rd exit will also remain open this year. Long delays are expected and motorists should avoid non-essential travel.
- Widespread special event clearway parking restrictions will also be in effect along and surrounding the course. Motorists and residents should check signs carefully on the day and on Saturday night as clearways come into effect from 12.01am Sunday morning. Some clearways in local areas will be in effect from 6am Saturday. Vehicles left in clearways will be towed and a fee applies. See detailed clearway listing below.

Sydney Marathon 2025 participants and volunteers are entitled to travel to and from marathon events on Saturday 30 and Sunday 31 August on the following public transport services below. Just show your race bib, finishers medal or volunteer t-shirt to transport staff when boarding services.
- Sydney Trains & NSW TrainLink Intercity services * (non-booked services bounded by Bomaderry, Goulburn, Bathurst, Scone and Dungog stations) * NOTE: International and Domestic airport station access fee is not included.
- Sydney Metro services
- Regular route metropolitan and outer metropolitan bus services
- Sydney, Parramatta and Newcastle Light Rail services
- Sydney and Newcastle Ferries
Remember to keep your race bib, finishers medal or volunteer t-shirt safe for your return journey home, as these are also your ticket to travel on public transport or you'll need to use a valid Opal card. Your entitlement is valid on public transport services until 4am the next day.
Note: an additional station access fee applies for travel to or from Domestic and International Airport stations and is not covered by 2025 Sydney Marathon travel entitlements. If you're travelling from these stations you'll need to pay the train station access fee.
Volunteers are also entitled to travel on the above mentioned transport services to and from the Sydney Marathon Running Expo on Thursday 28 to Saturday 30 August 2025.
Families, friends as well as local residents are encouraged to support this year’s thousands of Sydney Marathon event participants by cheering them on from a local spectator hub near you.

- Access on foot via Wynyard or Circular Quay train stations.
- There will be a designated pedestrian crossing at the corner of Pitt St and Reiby Pl to help spectators cross the course.
- Driver Ave, Moore Park near the Hordern Pavilion and Swans HQ -
- Access via light rail to Moore Park from the city or south east - note services from Kingsford to Moore Park will not run until 1.30pm.
- Please avoid driving and parking at the Entertainment Quarter as access is limited with major road closures in place until 3pm.
- Taylor Square, Oxford St Darlinghurst
- Access on foot from Museum, Kings Cross or Central stations.
- Martin Place between Castlereagh St and Pitt St
- Access via Martin Place train or metro stations, and exit via Castlereagh St.
The TCS Sydney Marathon Running Show presented by ASICS is Australia’s biggest running expo.
With 50 exhibitors, event partners, and charities, you’ll get the latest technology, knowledge, and support to make your race prep easier than ever – regardless of experience. All participants must pick up their race bib during the Running Show, while non-participants can still take part and enjoy the event.

Getting there
Attendees are encouraged to plan their trip and consider all the available travel options ahead of time.
- Ticketing: Remember, you'll need to use an Opal card or contactless payment card/device when travelling on public transport to and from the Running Show. Register your details online at Opal or via the Opal Travel app ahead of time.
- Trains: the closest stations to ICC Sydney are Central and Town Hall. From Central, change for L1 Dulwich Hill line light rail services to the Exhibition Centre stop, which is across from the venue. You can also walk from Central via Quay St or Hay St. From Town Hall you can walk to Darling Harbour via Druitt St.
- Metro: the closest metro stations to ICC Sydney are Central and Gadigal (near Town Hall). From Central continue on foot via Quay St or Hay St, from Gadigal take the Bathurst St exit and continue along Bathurst St or Druitt St towards Darling Harbour to reach ICC Sydney.
- Light rail: the closest light rail stop is Exhibition Centre on the L1 Dulwich Hill Line, which runs between Central Station and the Inner West. Catch an L1 Line service to Exhibition Centre, the stop is located across from the venue. Light rail services run regularly from 5am to 1am daily. Alternatively catch a L2 Randwick or L3 Kingsford Line light rail service to Town Hall and continue on foot via Druitt St towards ICC Sydney.
- Driving: If you have to drive, expect delays and allow extra travel time on roads approaching the precinct, particularly on weekdays during the morning and evening peaks. Parking is available at ICC Sydney, entry via Darling Drive. Alternatively, the closest vehicle drop-off points are located at Iron Wharf Place and Zollner Circuit, both accessed via Darling Drive and a short walk from the venue. On Saturday some roads will be closed while the Mini Marathon event takes place in the northern end of the city along Macquarie St and The Domain Sydney. - Accessibility
- Driving: ICC Sydney P1 car park has eight (8) and P2 has four (4) accessible parking spaces.
- Light Rail: ICC Sydney is located on the L1 Dulwich Hill light rail line and is serviced by two (2) light rail stops: Exhibition Centre; and Convention. The L1 Dulwich Hill light rail line departs regularly from Central
- Alight at Convention for access to Convention Centre, Darling Harbour Theatre, and the Grand Ballroom. The distance from the station exit to the venue entrance is about 65 metres
- Alight at Exhibition Centre for access to ICC Sydney Theatre and Exhibition Centre. The distance from the station exit to the venue entrance is about 140 metres.
- Both stations provide at-grade and stair-free access to the venue entrances, with a signalised pedestrian crossings available to safely cross Darling Drive.
Sydney Metro services are high-frequency, driverless trains running between Sydney’s North West and South West via the city.
The M1 Line operates turn up-and-go Metro services in both directions between Tallawong, Chatswood and Sydenham.
Saturday mini marathon
The closest Metro station to the start line is Martin Place. Take the Hunter St or Elizabeth St exits and continue on foot down Macquarie St to the start line near Bridge St. Metro services run regularly from early morning til late.
Sunday marathon and 10km events
The closest Metro stations to the start line area are Victoria Cross and Crows Nest. Additional early morning services will run from Tallawong and Sydenham. Metro services will run every 4 to 5 minutes until 3pm, then every 10 minutes.
Participants in Start Groups Red and Orange should arrive via Victoria Cross Metro Station.
- From Victoria Cross, take the Denison St station exit, turn right onto Berry St then left onto Walker St, then continue up to North Sydney Oval and St Leonards Park. Signage and staff will be onsite to help you find your way.
Participants in Start Group Green should arrive via Crows Nest Metro Station.
- From Crows Nest, take the Clarke St exit, continue via Clarke St, turn right onto Willoughby Rd then left onto Falcon St, continue via Falcon St to reach North Sydney Oval and St Leonards Park. Signage and staff will be onsite to help you find your way.
From the finish lines, the closest Metro station is Martin Place, alternatively catch a train from Circular Quay to connect with other train lines to complete your trip home.

Trains will be running regularly on Saturday and Sunday to help you to get to and from Sydney Marathon events.
Saturday - Mini Marathon
The closest train station to the Mini Marathon start line on Macquarie St at Bridge St is Circular Quay. From the finish area at the Opera House, it’s a short walk back to Circular Quay station.
Trackwork may affect your trip, buses will replace trains between Lidcombe and Strathfield, and between Central and Bondi Junction. If you're travelling from the T4 line change at Central for Metro services to Martin Place or other trains to Circular Quay. Plan your trip using the Trip Planner.
Sunday - Marathon and 10km events
Getting there:
- The closest train station to the start line area for the 42km Marathon and 10km course is North Sydney on the T1 North Shore Line and T9 Northern Line.
- Participants in Start Groups Red and Orange should arrive via North Sydney Train Station, or Victoria Cross Metro Station.
- Participants in Start Group Green should arrive via Crows Nest Metro Station.
- Extra early-morning trains will be running to arrive at North Sydney from 4am to help you get to the start line. Use the Trip Planner to plan your trip.
- If you’re arriving before 6am exit North Sydney Station via Blue St, turn right then cross Pacific Hwy to Walker St, continue up Walker St to reach the event start area at North Sydney Oval and St Leonards Park. Signage and staff will be onsite to help you find your way.
- After 6am, from North Sydney Station continue through Greenwood Plaza towards the Pacific Hwy overpass Pedestrian Bridge to reach Denison St. From Denison St continue up and turn right onto Berry St, then left onto Walker St, continue up Walker St to reach the event start area at North Sydney Oval and St Leonards Park. Look for signage and staff on-site to help you find your way.
Getting home:
- From the finish lines at the Opera House and Conservatorium of Music, the closest station is Circular Quay, or within short walking distance are Wynyard and Martin Place.
- Trains leave regularly from Circular Quay where you can change at Wynyard and Town Hall stations for services to other lines. For access to T4 Eastern Suburbs & Illawarra Line trains or Metro services to Tallawong or Sydenham, walk to Martin Place.
Trackwork
There is no trackwork taking place on Sunday 31 August.
Planned trackwork is taking place on Saturday 30 August and may affect how you travel to and from the event. Plan ahead using the Trip Planner two weeks out from the event.
- T1 Western Line: Buses replace trains between Lidcombe and Strathfield. Trains run to a changed timetable between Penrith and Olympic Park. Change at Lidcombe for buses towards Strathfield. Trackwork buses do not leave from Olympic Park. Richmond trains run between Richmond and Liverpool. You can change at Liverpool for trains to Glenfield and change at Glenfield for trains to the City via the Airport.
- T2 Leppington & Inner West Line: Buses replace trains between Lidcombe and Strathfield. Trains run to a changed timetable between Leppington and Olympic Park via Granville and between Leppington and Lidcombe via Regents Park. Change at Lidcombe for buses towards Strathfield. Trackwork buses do not leave from Olympic Park. You can also change at Glenfield for trains to the City via the Airport
- T3 Liverpool & Inner West Line: Buses replace trains between Lidcombe and Strathfield. Trains run to a changed timetable between Leppington and Lidcombe. Change at Lidcombe for buses towards Strathfield. Trackwork buses do not leave from Olympic Park.
- T4 Eastern Suburbs & Illawarra Line: Buses replace trains between Waterfall and Sutherland, and between Central and Bondi Junction. Trackwork buses do not leave from Martin Place Station. Trains run to a changed timetable between Cronulla, Waterfall and North Sydney, with some making extra stops at St Peters and Erskineville. Change at Sydenham or Central for metro services to Martin Place, Central for buses to Kings Cross and Edgecliff, or metro services to Martin Place, Town Hall for express buses to Bondi Junction.
- T6 Lidcombe & Bankstown Line: Trains run to a changed timetable and reduced frequency, every 30 minutes.
- T7 Olympic Park Line: Trains run to a changed timetable between Olympic Park and Lidcombe, continuing to Penrith or Leppington. Buses replace all trains between Lidcombe and Strathfield.
- T8 Airport & South Line: Some trains between Sydenham and Central may run to a changed timetable and reduced frequency.
- Blue Mountains Line: Trains run between Blue Mountains Line stations and Blacktown only. Change at Penrith for express buses to Strathfield. T1 Western Line trains run between Penrith, Blacktown and Olympic Park. Buses replace trains between Lidcombe and Strathfield. Trains from Blacktown to Blue Mountains Line stations run 30 minutes later than normal. Bathurst trains run between Bathurst and Lithgow only, some to a changed timetable. Change trains at Lithgow to continue your journey. If you are travelling to Lithgow to connect with NSW TrainLink Regional Coaches call 132 232 to confirm departure times.
- South Coast Line: Buses replace trains between Waterfall and Sutherland, and between Central and Bondi Junction. Trackwork buses do not leave from Martin Place Station. Trains run to a changed timetable between South Coast Line stations and Central, platforms 1-14. Change at Central for buses to Kings Cross and Edgecliff or metro services to Martin Place. From 8am to 4pm, at Stanwell Park, all trains leave from platform 1. From 12pm to 4pm, at Stanwell Park, all trains leave from platform 2.
- Southern Highlands Line: From 4.40am to 4.50pm, buses replace trains between Goulburn, Moss Vale and Campbelltown. T8 Airport & South Line trains run between Campbelltown and the City via the Airport.

Saturday 30 August
Buses run regularly to Martin Place, Circular Quay and Wynyard which are all within short walking distance of the Mini Marathon starting area on Macquarie St near Bridge St.
Some buses will be diverting in the city while roads are closed
- Route 441: from 4am to 10am buses will start and end trips at QVB instead of Art Gallery. Buses towards Art Gallery will end trips at QVB, Market St, Stand F. Buses leaving the city will start trips from QVB, York St, Stand B (Stop ID: 200042). Stops between QVB and Art Gallery will be closed. Continue on foot.
- Route 504 and 506: from 4am to 10am buses will end trips at Riley St opposite Kennedy St, Woolloomooloo (Stop ID 201157) and start trips from Riley St at Cathedral St, Woolloomooloo (Stop ID 201159). The stop on St Mary’s Rd (Stop ID 2000410) will be closed.
- Routes 202, 207 and 208: from 5am to 10am buses will be diverting via the Sydney Harbour Bridge and York St off ramp instead of the Cahill Expressway. No stops will be missed in either direction.
Sunday 31 August
Due to major road closures limited buses make stops right near the starting line near North Sydney Oval, as many buses will be terminating trips at different nearby transport hubs. Additional services will run from as early as 4am on key routes to the city or the north.
The Marathon and 10km course starting area is at North Sydney Oval and St Leonards Park on Miller St in North Sydney. From the city change for a train to North Sydney or take the Metro to Victoria Cross to get within walking distance of the start line.
Buses from the Northern Beaches will be making stops along Falcon St in North Sydney, outside the park. Many other buses from the North Shore and Northern suburbs will be ending trips in Crows Nest and St Leonards. Be prepared to walk or change for other transport services including trains or metro services to get closer to the start area.
Be aware that significant bus diversions will be in place due to event road closures and many bus routes will be affected so plan your trip ahead of time.
Bus diversions
With significant bus diversions in place while roads are closed for the event bus customers need to plan their trip using the Trip Planner before heading out for the day.
Key changes:
- Buses that usually travel across the Sydney Harbour Bridge will end trips either side of the bridge in Crows Nest, St Leonards or Macquarie Park, or in the city. Passengers will need to catch trains or metro services to continue their trip across the bridge while it’s closed from 3am to 11am.
- Buses between the city and east will start and end trips in Kings Cross and/or Woolloomooloo due to closures of Park St at Hyde Park.
- Buses between the inner west and east will start and end trips either side of Hyde Park due to closures of Park St.
Diversions:
- Route BN1: From 3am to 5am, BN1 buses will start and end trips at QVB instead of Wynyard. Buses will not run to or from Wynyard due to road closures. Buses will use the Harbour Tunnel while the Harbour Bridge is closed. Buses to the city will end trips at QVB, York St, Stand D (Stop ID: 200044). Buses towards Mona Vale will start trips from the same stop QVB, York St, Stand D. Stops at Wynyard on Carrington St will be closed.
- Route B1: From 4.30am to 11am, B-Line buses will start and end trips at St Leonards Station, Pacific Hwy instead of Wynyard. Buses towards Mona Vale will start trips from St Leonards Station, Pacific Hwy, Stand A (Stop ID: 206523). Buses will also make stops along Falcon St in North Sydney and Pacific Hwy in Crows Nest. Catch a train or metro to continue your trip between St Leonards and the city.
- Route 100: From 3am to 11am, route 100 buses will operate a loop service between Taronga Zoo and St Leonards only, starting and ending trips at Royal North Shore Hospital instead of the city. Services towards Taronga Zoo will start trips from Royal North Shore Hospital, Reserve Rd (Stop ID 206527). Buses will also make additional stops along Falcon St in North Sydney and Pacific Hwy at Crows Nest. Catch a train or metro to continue your trip between St Leonards and the city.
- Route 115: From 2am to 12pm buses will run to and from Crows Nest only. Buses will not run between Crows Nest and North Sydney. Buses towards North Sydney will end trips on Pacific Hwy opp Crows Nest Station, Crows Nest (Stop ID 206530). Buses towards Chatswood will start trips from Crows Nest Station, Pacific Hwy, Crows Nest (Stop ID 206515). Stops on Blue St, Miller St and Pacific Hwy will be missed. Change for metro services to continue your trip to North Sydney.
- Route 120: From 3am to 11am, route 120 buses will run to and from Crows Nest only. Buses will not run to and from the city. Buses towards the city will end trips at Crows Nest Station, Pacific Hwy Crows Nest (Stop ID 206515). Buses towards Chatswood will start trips from Crows Nest Station, Pacific Hwy Crows Nest (Stop ID 206515). Stops on York St and Clarence St will be missed. Change for metro services to continue your trip between Crows Nest and the city.
- Routes 202, 207 and 208: From 2am to 12pm, buses will run to and from Crows Nest only. Buses will not run to or from the city Buses towards the city will end trips on Pacific Hwy opp Crows Nest Station, Crows Nest (Stop ID 206530). Buses towards Northbridge and East Lindfield will start trips from Crows Nest Station, Pacific Hwy, Crows Nest (Stop ID 206515). Change for trains or metro services to continue your trip between Crows Nest and the city.
- Routes 172X, 173X: From 3am to 11am, route 172X and 173X services will run between Warringah Mall and St Leonards via North Balgowlah/Balgowlah Shops only. Buses will not run to or from the city. Services to Warringah Mall will start trips from Crows Nest Station, Pacific Hwy (Stop ID: 206515) also stopping at St Leonards Station, Pacific Hwy, Stand C (Stop ID 206521) and along Falcon St in North Sydney. Catch a train to continue your trip between St Leonards and the city.
- Routes 194, 270, 271: From 3am to 11am routes 194, 270 and 271 will start and end trips at Chatswood Station bus interchange instead of the city. Buses towards St Ives and Terrey Hills will start trips from Chatswood Station Interchange, Stand C (Stop ID: 2067130). Catch trains or metro services to continue your trip between Chatswood and the city.
- Route 230: From 2am to 12pm route 230 services will run between Mosman Wharf and St Leonards only. Buses will not make stops at North Sydney Station or Milsons Point. Services towards North Sydney will end trips at St Leonards Station, Pacific Hwy, Stand C. Services towards Mosman will start trips from Crows Nest Station, Pacific Hwy (Stop ID 206515), then continue towards Neutral Bay (Big Bear shopping centre). Change for metro or trains to continue your trip.
- Route 252: From 2am to 12pm, route 252 buses will run to and from Crows Nest only. Buses will not run between Crows Nest and North Sydney. Buses towards North Sydney will end trips at Crows Nest Station, Pacific Hwy, Crows Nest (Stop ID 206515). Buses towards Gladesville will start trips from Pacific Hwy opp Crows Nest Station, Crows Nest (Stop ID 206530). Stops on Blue St, Miller St and Pacific Hwy will be missed. Change for metro services to continue your trip between Crows Nest and North Sydney.
- Routes 254, 291: From 2am to 12pm, routes 254 and 291 buses will run to and from Crows Nest only. Buses will not run between Crows Nest, North Sydney and McMahons Point. Buses towards McMahons Point will end trips at Crows Nest Station, Pacific Hwy, Crows Nest (Stop ID 206515). Buses towards Riverview and Epping will start trips from Pacific Hwy opp Crows Nest Station, Crows Nest (Stop ID 206530). Stops on Pacific Hwy, Miller St, Blues Point Rd and Henry Lawson Ave will be missed. Change for metro services to continue your trip between Crows Nest and North Sydney or continue on foot for access to and from McMahons Point.
- Route 261: From 2am to 12pm, route 261 buses will run to and from Crows Nest only. Buses will not run between Crows Nest and North Sydney. Buses towards North Sydney will end trips at Pacific Hwy opp Crows Nest Station Crows Nest (Stop ID 206530). Buses towards Lane Cove will start trips from Pacific Hwy opp Crows Nest Station Crows Nest (Stop ID 206530). Stops on Blue St, Miller St and Pacific Hwy will be missed. Change for metro services to continue your trip between Crows Nest and North Sydney.
- Route 263:
- From 3am to 11am, route 263 services will operate between Crows Nest and Milsons Point via Cremorne only. Buses will not run to or from the city. A limited number of express shuttle buses will operate between Crows Nest and the city via the Sydney Harbour Tunnel in the early morning.
- Route 303: From 5am to 1.30pm services towards Randwick will end trips at St Spyridon Church, Gardeners Rd (Stop ID: 203296). Services towards Sans Souci will start trips from Dacey Gardens, Gardeners Rd (Stop ID: 203228) Services will not run between Kingsford and Randwick.
- Route 304: From 4am to 11.30am buses from Green Square towards the city will end trips at Museum Station, Downing Centre, Elizabeth St, Stand E (Stop ID 200049) instead of Circular Quay. Buses will start trips from Harmony Park, Hunt St, Surry Hills (Stop ID 201026). Buses will not run to or from Circular Quay, stops on Elizabeth St, Phillip St and Alfred St will be missed. Change for trains at Museum to continue your trip.
- Routes 311: From 4am until 3.30pm, buses will operate in a loop between Crown St, Woolloomooloo and Bayswater Rd, Kings Cross only. Services towards Woolloomooloo will leave from Darlinghurst Rd near Bayswater Rd (Stop ID 201111). Buses will not make stops along Oxford St, at Central Station or in Millers Point. Catch trains or walk to continue your trip.
- Routes 324, 325: From 4am to 3pm route 324 and 325 services will start and end trips in Woolloomooloo, and will not run between Woolloomooloo and Walsh Bay. Services from Watsons Bay towards the city will end trips at Riley St opp Kennedy St, Woolloomooloo (Stop ID 201157). Services towards Watsons Bay will start trips from William St at Palmer St (Stop ID: 201113).
- Route 333: From 4am to 3:30pm route 333 services will operate between Bondi Beach and Kings Cross only. Buses will not continue to Circular Quay. Buses towards the city from Bondi will end trips at Bayswater Rd near Kellett St (Temporary Stop ID: 201162). Buses towards Bondi will start trips from Kings Cross Station, Bayswater Rd, Stand D (Stop ID: 201115). change at Bondi Junction station for trains towards Martin Place/Circular Quay instead.
- Route 339:
- From 4am to 1.30pm route 339 services will run between Clovelly and Centennial Park only, buses will not run to or from Central. Buses leaving Clovelly will end trips at Darley Rd Opp Centennial Park Main Gate (Stop ID 2031107). Buses towards Clovelly will leave from Centennial Park Main Gate, Darley Rd Randwick (Stop ID 203145). Change for L2 Randwick light rail services to continue your trip to Central.
- From 1.30pm to 3pm route 339 services towards the city will run as normal to Central. Services leaving Central will divert around Anzac Pde via Crown St and Cleveland St. The bus stop on Flinders St will before South Dowling St Darlinghurst (Stop ID 201014) will be missed.
- Route 343: From 4am to 11.30am buses will start and end trips at Central instead of Circular Quay. Buses towards the city will end trips at Central Station, Eddy Ave - Stand A (Stop ID 200039). Buses towards Kingsford will leave from Central Station, Elizabeth St, Stand E (Stop ID 201080). Change for trains at Central to continue your trip to Circular Quay.
- Route 348: From 5am to 1.30pm services towards Randwick will end trips at St Spyridon Church, Gardeners Rd (Stop ID: 203296). Services towards Wolli Creek will start trips from Dacey Gardens, Gardeners Rd (Stop ID: 203228) Services will not run between Kingsford and Randwick/Prince of Wales Hospital.
- Route 352: From 4am to 3:30pm services will run between Marrickville and Surry Hills only, buses will not run between Bondi Junction and Darlinghurst. Buses from Marrickville towards Bondi will end trips on Crown St at Campbell St (Stop ID 201097). Buses that usually start from Bondi Junction will start trips from Shannon Reserve, Crown St, Surry Hills (Stop ID 201093). - Route 389: From 4am to 3pm route 389 services will be split into two routes between Pyrmont and Town Hall, and between the city/Woolloomooloo and Bondi Junction.
- Pyrmont-City services will not run until 11am due to road closures in Pyrmont. From 11am to 3pm buses will run as normal from Harris St, Pyrmont but end trips at Town Hall Station, Park St, Stand H (Stop ID: 2000249). Buses from Town Hall to Pyrmont will pick up from QVB, York St Stand B (Stop ID: 200042). From the city change for trains to Bondi Junction.
- City-Bondi Jct: from 4am to 3pm Buses to Bondi Junction will start trips from Yurong St after William St (Stop ID: 201070). Buses from Bondi Junction towards the city will end trips at Riley St at Kennedy St (Stop ID 201157). Continue on foot to Town Hall to connect with buses towards Pyrmont.
- Route 390X: From 4am to 1.30pm buses will be diverting around Anzac Pde at Kingsford. Buses will divert via Avoca St and Belmore Rd then as normal. All stops along Anzac Pde and High St at Kingsford/Kensington will be missed in both directions.
- Route 392: From 4am to 1.30pm buses will be diverting around Anzac Pde at Kingsford via Gardeners Rd, Dalmeny Ave, Epsom Rd, Lenthall St, Todman Ave then continue as normal. Stops on Anzac Pde and Kensington Rd will be missed in both directions.
- Route 392N:From 3.30am to 5am buses to the city will be diverting via Gardeners Rd, Botany Rd, Henderson Rd, Wyndham St, Gibbons St, Lawson Sq, Regent St, Redfern St, Chalmers St, Randle St, Elizabeth St then end trips at Central Station, Eddy Ave, Stand A (Stop ID 200039). Services towards Matraville will start trips from Central Station, Elizabeth St, Stand E (Stop ID 201080) then divert via Redfern St, Regent St, Botany Rd, Gardeners Rd, Bunnerong Rd, then continue as normal. All stops along Oxford St and Anzac Pde will be missed between Kingsford at the city.
- Route 396: Route 396 services will be affected in two stages throughout the day.
- From 4am to 1.30pm buses will operate as a loop service between Maroubra Beach and Randwick Junction travelling via Anzac Pde, Avoca St, Alison Rd, Belmore Rd, Avoca St, Anzac Pde then as normal.
- From 1.30pm to 3.30pm services will run resume running to and from Circular Quay but continue to divert around Oxford St via Foveaux St, Albion St, Crown St and Cleveland St.
- Route 399: From 4am to 1.30pm services will operate in a loop between Little Bay & Maroubra Junction. Services will not run to or from Kensington. Stops on Anzac Pde between Gardeners Rd and Kensington Rd will be missed.
- Routes 412, 423, 426 and 428: From 4am to 11.30am buses will start and end trips at Central instead of Martin Place. Buses to the city will end trips at Central on Pitt St before Hay St (Stop ID: 2000434). Buses leaving the city will start trips from Pitt St opp Barlow St (Stop ID: 200083). - Routes 431, 438X and 470: From 4am to 11.30am buses will start and end trips at Central instead of Martin Place. - Routes 500n, 500x, 506: From 4am to 4pm, routes 500N, 500x and 506 services will run to and from Town Hall House only. Buses will not run between Town Hall House and Hyde Park/Domain. Buses towards the city will end trips at Town Hall House, Druitt St, Stand N, Sydney (Stop ID 2000282). Buses will continue to run to and from Railway Square. Some stops on Harris St and Miller St will be missed. Use alternative stops nearby or continue on foot.
- Route 504: From 4am to 4pm route 504 services to the city will end trips at Town Hall Station, Park St, Stand H (Stop ID: 2000249) instead of the Domain. Buses towards Chiswick will start trips from QVB, York St Stand B (Stop ID: 200042). Stops on Park St, Riley St and William St will be missed.
- Routes 607x and 610x:
- 607X services departing the city at 3am and 4am will operate via the Sydney Harbour Tunnel. Buses will start trips from QVB, York St, Stand C (Stop ID 200043). Stops at Wynyard will be missed including Clarence St at King St and Clarence St, Stand Q.
- The 607X 3:15am service from Bella Vista will run to QVB via Sydney Harbour Tunnel & will not stop at Wynyard. Stops at Wynyard Station, York St, Stand J and QVB, York St, Stand E will be missed.
- From 4am to 11am route 607X and 610X services to the city will end trips at Macquarie Park Station, Waterloo Rd Stand E. Buses that to Castle Hill and Bella Vista usually leave from the city will instead start trips from Macquarie Park Station, Waterloo Rd Stand D (Stop ID: 2113324). Catch metro services to continue your trip between Macquarie Park and the city.
- Route N90 and N91:From 3am til last service route N90 and N91 services will start and end trips at Crows Nest instead of the city. Buses will end trips at Crows Nest Station, Pacific Hwy (Stop ID 206515), buses will start trips from Pacific Hwy opp Crows Nest Station, Crows Nest (Stop ID 206530). - Route N92:
- N92 services departing Tallawong at 2am and 3am will operate via the Sydney Harbour Tunnel, ending trips at Town Hall, Park St, Stand K (Stop ID 2000252). Stops will be missed including Wynyard Station, York St, Stand K and Town Hall, Park St, Stand H.
- N92 services departing the city at 3:40am and 4.40am to Tallawong will also operate via the Sydney Harbour Tunnel starting trips from Town Hall, Park St, Stand K (Stop ID 2000252). Buses will not stop at Wynyard Clarence St, Stand R.

Sydney Ferries are a great way to get around the city but services can be popular and may reach capacity, especially on weekends so allow extra travel time and consider the alternative transport options.
On Saturday, catch ferries to Circular Quay then continue along Macquarie St to the start line near Bridge St.
On Sunday, limited early morning ferries operate on a Sunday that may not be early enough to get you to your start wave on time. Use trains, metro and buses instead.
From the finish areas at Sydney Opera House or the Conservatorium of Music you can catch one of the many ferries leaving from nearby Circular Quay wharves. Ferries will run to a regular Sunday timetable.

- Extra early-morning services will run from 3.45am from Dulwich Hill to Central, and from 4.30am from Central Grand Concourse to Dulwich Hill every 10 minutes.

L2 Randwick Line

L3 Kingsford Line
L3 Kingsford Line services run between Circular Quay and Juniors Kingsford via Central Station (Chalmers Street).

- Change at Central to connect with Metro to Victoria Cross or Crows Nest, or for Trains to North Sydney
- From 3.45am until 6am: L3 services will run between Juniors Kingsford and Town Hall only. Services will not run between Circular Quay and Town Hall due to event road closures.
- From 6am until 11am: L3 services will run between Moore Park and Town Hall only. Services will not run between Circular Quay and Town Hall or between Moore Park and Juniors Kingsford.
- From 11am until 1.30pm: L3 services will run between Moore Park and Circular Quay only. Services will not run between Moore Park and Juniors Kingsford.
- From 1.30pm L3 services resume as normal operating between Circular Quay and Juniors Kingsford in both directions.
L2/L3 alternative transport options:
- When L2 and L3 services are partially closed between Circular Quay and Town Hall, use alternative transport including trains or walking if able to.
- When L3 services are partially closed between Moore Park and Juniors Kingsford, consider other transport modes. L2 services continue to run.
- Due to the Sydney Marathon road closures in the Kensington and Kingsford areas, light rail replacement buses will not operate.
- Allow plenty of extra travel time as services will be busy, and plan ahead using the Trip Planner.
L4 Westmead and Carlingford Line
L4 Westmead and Carlingford Line light rail services run between Carlingford and Westmead via Parramatta CBD. Services run regularly from 5am to 1am daily. Plan your trip using the Trip Planner.

Major roads will be closed on Saturday 30 and Sunday 31 August for Sydney Marathon events. On Saturday some roads will be closed in the Sydney CBD, while on Sunday significant road closures will be in place across the city from North Sydney, through the Sydney CBD, Pyrmont, Darlinghurst, Moore Park, Kensington and Kingsford.
Nightly closures will also be in place in the Sydney CBD for the construction of a temporary pedestrian bridge on Macquarie St for the event.
Macquarie St temporary bridge build – 22-24 August and 31 August-1 September
A temporary pedestrian bridge will be built across Macquarie St to facilitate the safe movement of participants for the Sydney Marathon event on the weekend of 30-31 August.
Macquarie St will be closed between Bridge St and Bent St to allow for the installation and then removal of the temporary bridge. Once installed the bridge will have a height clearance of 5.2m.
Overnight full and/or lane closures will be in place at the following times:
- Fri 22 Aug: Full closure from 11pm - 7am
- Sat 23 Aug: one of two lanes will be closed in both directions from 11pm – 7am
- Sun 31 Aug: Full closure from 6pm – 4am
- Mon 1 Sep: Northbound lanes will be closed from 10pm - 2am
When full closures are in place motorists will be detoured via Bridge St, Phillip St and Bent St. The bridge will be removed by the evening of 1 September.
Saturday 30 August
Roads in the Sydney CBD will close for the Mini Marathon 5km event between 2am and 10am.
- 2am – 10am: Macquarie St between Albert St and Bent St
- 4am – 10am: Macquarie St between the Sydney Opera House roundabout and Bridge St, Albert St, and Art Gallery Rd and Mrs Macquaries Rd in the Royal Botanic Garden & The Domain.
- 5am – 10am: Macquarie St and College St from Bent St to Park St, and the Cahill Expressway on and off ramp to Macquarie St will close. The Cycleway on College St between Park St and Prince Albert Rd will also close from 5am to 10am.
- No access to Macquarie St from the Cahill Expressway, motorists should use the Grosvenor St or York St off ramps from the Harbour Bridge instead.
- 6.30am – 9.30am: St Mary’s Rd, Hospital Rd and Shakespeare Place. Two-way access maintained to Hospital Rd via Shakespeare Place.

Sunday 31 August
Major roads in North Sydney, the Sydney CBD, Pyrmont, Darlinghurst, Moore Park and Kingsford including the Sydney Harbour Bridge, Western Distributor, Oxford Street and Anzac Parade will be closed between 2am and 4pm for Sydney Marathon events. Sydney motorists are urged to avoid travel in these areas as significant detours will be in place resulting in extensive travel times.

Alternative routes
- Motorists will only be able to travel east/west across the course via the Cross City Tunnel which will be toll-free from 5am to 4.30pm on event day however long delays are expected, and motorists should avoid non-essential travel.
- The Sydney Harbour Tunnel and Eastern Distributor remain open however long delays are expected.
- The Eastern Distributor Bondi exit to Moore Park Rd also remains open during the event this year. Anzac Pde Randwick entry closed from 5am to 1pm and exit closed from 5am to 1.30pm.
- Motorists in the South East will be detoured around Anzac Pde via Bunnerong Rd, Maroubra Rd and Avoca St in both directions.
- Please note due to the closure of the Harbour Bridge motorists from the north needing to access the city centre before 11am will need to travel south via the Harbour Tunnel, take the Kings Cross exit at William St then join Cross City Tunnel (toll-free) westbound to exit at Harbour St.

- Motorists can use the Sydney Harbour Tunnel or Victoria Rd/Gladesville Bridge instead.
- Note: Drivers west of the city needing to travel to the north side of the Harbour Bridge before 11am should use Victoria Rd/Gladesville Bridge. Access to the Sydney Harbour Tunnel northbound from the west is via the Cross City Tunnel only, no access via the city while major roads are closed.

- Before 11am motorists from the city travelling north can only access the Harbour Tunnel northbound via the Cross City Tunnel eastbound, then exiting at Rushcutters Bay to return westbound via the Cross City Tunnel and join the Eastern Distributor northbound at Woolloomooloo.

- 5am to 3pm: Park St and William St closed between Elizabeth St and Crown St.
- Drivers will be unable to travel east or west across the course on surface roads from the Opera House down to Moore Park. Motorists can use the Cross City Tunnel which will be toll-free in both directions from 5am to 3pm on event day. The Eastern Distributor Bondi exit to Moore Park Rd will remain open. The Randwick exit to Anzac Pde will remain closed until 1.30pm.

- Heavy traffic is expected in the Eastern Distributor in both directions due to the closures of Dacey Ave, Anzac Pde and Cleveland St between 5am and 1.30pm
- Moore Park - 5am to 3pm: Anzac Pde closed southbound from Moore Park Rd to Lang Rd, Moore Park Rd closed westbound from Oxford St to Anzac Pde, Driver Ave closed and Lang Rd closed between Anzac Pde and Cook Rd. Robertson Rd and surrounding local streets also closed. Centennial Parklands closed.

Parking
Car parking options around the start area in North Sydney is very limited as major roads will be closed from 4am restricting access to most car parks.
Special event clearway parking restrictions will also be in effect on roads in North Sydney from as early as 12.01am on event day making street parking very limited.
Event participants are strongly encouraged to catch public transport with trains and metro services running frequently to North Sydney, and Victoria Cross, bringing you within walking distance of the start line. Travel on transport is also covered in your event entry.
Special event clearways
Saturday 30 August
Special event clearways will be in effect on key roads in the Sydney CBD from 2am to 10am including sections of Albert St, Art Gallery Rd, Bent St, Bridge St, College St, Conservatorium Rd, Hospital Rd, Hunter St, Macquarie St, Mrs Macquaries Rd, Phillip Ln, Prince Albert Rd, Shakespeare Place, St James Rd and St Marys Rd.

Sunday 31 August
Special event clearway parking restrictions will be in effect on major roads along and surrounding the course between 12.01am and 10am. In North Sydney some clearways remain in effect until 12 midday, in the city some clearways remain in effect until 3pm, while in Kensington and Kingsford some clearways remain in effect until 1.30pm

- North Sydney: clearways will be in effect from 12.0am to 10am on Miller St, Falcon St, Ridge St, McLaren St, Blue St, Berry St, Walker St, Carlow St, Pacific Hwy and surrounding local streets. From 6am Saturday 30 August until 2pm Sunday 31 August clearways will also be in effect on sections of Miller St and Ridge St at the start area.
- St Leonards and Crows Nest: clearways will be in effect from 4am to 12pm on Pacific Hwy, Reserve Rd, Oxley St and Alexander St.
- Sydney CBD: clearways will be in effect from 12.0am to 10am on multiple roads throughout the city including, Hickson Rd, Pottinger St, Watsons Rd, Upper Fort St, Argyle St, Dalgety Rd, Barangaroo Ave, Napoleon St, Sussex St, Erskine St, Shelley St, Lime St, Bridge St, Pitt St, Young St, Loftus St, Phillip St, Elizabeth St, Castlereagh St, King St, Macquarie St, O’Connell St, Bligh St, Gresham St, Bent St, Hunter St, St James Rd, St Marys Rd, William St, College St, Liverpool St Hospital Rd, Art Gallery Rd and Mrs Macquaries Rd. Some clearways will be in effect from 5am to 3pm on Bathurst St, Castlereagh St and Riley St, and from 5am to 11.30am on Clarence St, Castlereagh St, York St and Campbell St.
- Kings Cross: clearways will be in effect from 5am to 3pm on Bayswater Rd between Ward Ave and Kellett St/Penny Lane.
- Darlinghurst, Surry Hills: clearways will be in effect from 12.01am to 10am on Oxford St, Flinders St, South Dowling St and on surrounding local roads. Clearways will also be in effect from 5am to 1.30pm on sections of Fitzroy St.
- Moore Park, Kingsford, Kensington: clearways will be in effect from 12.01am to 10am on Anzac Pde, Moore Park Rd, Lang Rd, Driver Ave, Cleveland St, Dacey Ave, Centennial Parklands internal roads and on surrounding local roads. Clearways will also be in effect from 5am to 1.30pm on sections of Cleveland St, Gardeners Rd, Bunnerong Rd, Maroubra Rd and Todman Ave. From 6pm Saturday 30 August until 10am Sunday 31 August on parking spaces will be clearwayed in the centre median of Anzac Pde between Sturt St and Botany St.
- Pyrmont & Ultimo: clearways will be in effect from 12.01am to 10am on Wattle St, Pyrmont Bridge Rd, Harris St, Pirrama Rd, Pyrmont St, Bowman St and surrounding local roads.
- Macquarie Park: clearways will be in effect from 5am to 10am on Waterloo Rd between Wicks Rd and Thomas Holt Drive (northern side only).
Clearways are strict no-parking zones for all vehicle types and apply even to local residents and TfNSW Mobility Scheme Permit holders. Check signs carefully as vehicles left in clearways will be towed and a fee applies. If your vehicle is towed, you can search your vehicle registration at the Find My Car website to find its new location, or alternatively call 132 701 to speak to an operator.

Drop off zone
An accessible drop off zone will be available near the start line area at North Sydney Boys High School, entry via Falcon St.
Pick up zone
An accessible pick up zone will be available on Young St corner Alfred St at Circular Quay.
Transport
North Sydney Train station is a fully accessible station with lifts to street level.
Victoria Cross Metro Station has multiple lifts at the Miller Street North exit to Miller St.
Queues may be experienced at both stations as participants arrive for each event so allow extra travel time and arrive early.
