Important Travel Advice

RAAF Base Richmond will celebrate its 100th anniversary with the RAAF Richmond Airshow at the base where attendees can experience the Air Force flying shows and ground exhibits. Gates will open at 9am, with flying displays to be conducted from 11am to 4pm each day. Airshow tickets have SOLD OUT. 

With up to 40,000 attendees expected each day over the weekend, ticketholders are urged to leave the car at home and catch public transport as heavy traffic is expected and nearby parking is very limited. Airshow tickets have SOLD OUT - no tickets will be available on site.

Transport

  • Travel on all modes of public transport is included in your event ticket, simply show your ticket to transport staff when boarding services.
  • Additional trains will run frequently to and from Clarendon Station to help you get to and from the event. From the station, it’s a short walk across to the airbase via temporary gates along Hawkesbury Valley Way. Additional staff and signage will be in place.

Driving routes & Parking:

  • If you have to drive, limited parking will be available at the Hawkesbury Showgrounds via a pre-purchased ticket on the RAAF Airshow event website. Limited accessible parking close to the Airshow will also be available for permit holders via a separate pre-purchased ticket.
  • All vehicle parking at the Showgrounds needs to be accessed from Blacktown Rd not Hawkesbury Valley Way due to the partial closure of Racecourse Rd for the event.
  • Enter in the address '40 Racecourse Rd Clarendon' into GPS navigation tools. From the car park, pedestrian access to the Airshow will be via temporary airfield gates along Hawkesbury Valley Way.
  • Alternatively consider parking at a nearby station commuter car park and continuing your trip to the Show by train to Clarendon Station. Nearby station commuter car parks with capacity include Seven Hills, Richmond, Blacktown, Schofields, Riverstone and Mulgrave station car parks.
  • Please note, public parking will not be available at RAAF Richmond, and there will be no public entry via the RAAF Richmond Main Gate.
  • Racecourse Rd will be closed at Hawkesbury Valley Way and the Rail line crossing from 6am to 6pm on Saturday and Sunday for the safety of crowds getting to and from the event via the train station. Other roads surrounding the airbase will be closed between 6.30am and 5pm each day.
  • Special event clearway parking restrictions will also be in effect on Hawkesbury Valley Way and Hobart Street surrounding the airbase from 7am to 6pm each day. Clearways are strict no parking zones, and vehicles left in signposted clearways will be towed.

Event Ticket Entitlements 

Valid pre-purchased tickets to the RAAF Richmond Air Show 2025 include travel on the following transport services, just show your event ticket to Transport staff when boarding services:

  • Sydney Trains and NSW TrainLink Intercity services* (non-booked services bounded by Bomaderry, Goulburn, Bathurst, Scone and Dungog stations) *note airport station access not included.
  • Sydney Metro services
  • Sydney metropolitan and outer metropolitan regular route bus services;
  • Special event shuttle buses between Tallawong and Schofields
  • Sydney, Parramatta and Newcastle Light rail services
  • Sydney and Newcastle ferries

Remember to keep your event ticket safe for your return journey or you'll need to use your Opal card, as you must have a valid ticket when travelling on public transport. Your event ticket is valid on trains until 4am the following day.

Note: an additional train station access fee applies for travel to or from Domestic and International Airport stations. The access fee is not covered by your event ticket travel entitlements.

Transport Park&Ride Car Parks 

Park for free when you catch public transport. Transport Park&Ride provides up to 18 hours of free parking each day. All you have to do is complete a public transport trip. Located close to public transport hubs, Park&Ride car parks help you connect more easily to train, bus and ferry services.  

Tickets to the RAAF Richmond Airshow include travel on transport and free Park&Ride parking. When leaving the car park use the intercom button at the exit gate to speak with the operator and show your event ticket.  

Real-time parking availability allows you to see how many vacant car park spaces are available at Transport Park&Ride car parks. For Park&Ride locations and more information on how it works, go to Transport Park&Ride

Sydney Metro services are high-frequency, driverless trains running between Sydney’s north-west and south-west via the city. 

The M1 Line operates turn up-and-go Metro services in both directions between Tallawong, Chatswood and Sydenham. Metro services start running from early morning, until late at night. 

Change at Central to connect with a Sydney Trains service to Clarendon. Alternatively, change at Tallawong to connect with event shuttle buses to Schofields train station where you can connect with trains to Clarendon. Shuttle buses will run between 8am and 6pm.

Extra metro services will run between Tallawong and Sydenham from 9am until 6pm daily due to train trackwork on the T1 North Shore Line. 

Event shuttle buses

Event shuttle buses will run between Tallawong metro station and Schofields train station to help attendees connect with trains to Clarendon.

Shuttle buses will run at the following times

  • 8am to 11am every 6 minutes
  • 11am to 2pm every 10 minutes
  • 2pm to 6pm every 6 minutes

Buses will pick up and drop off at Tallawong Station, Implexa Pde and Schofields Station Stand A on Railway Terrace.

The closest station to RAAF Richmond Airbase is Clarendon on the T1 and T5 Richmond Line.

Additional trains will run to and from Clarendon Station each day of the show. From the station it’s a short walk across to the airbase via temporary gates along Hawkesbury Valley Way. Additional staff and signage will be in place. See the Airshow transport and event site map (pdf 608KB) to find your way.

Additional trains – Saturday and Sunday

  • From Central: Trains will run to Clarendon every 15-20 minutes between 7am and 9:30am, stopping at Redfern, Burwood, Strathfield, Lidcombe, Granville, Parramatta, Westmead, Seven Hills, Blacktown then all stations to Clarendon.
  • From Macarthur (via Fairfield): additional trains to Clarendon will run every 30 minutes from 7:11am to 9:16am.
  • From Liverpool: two additional trains, stopping all stations to Clarendon, will depart at 6:44am and 7:16am.
  • From Clarendon: Return trains will run every 10 minutes to Central and Macarthur.

Travel from Richmond

Buses replace trains between Richmond and Clarendon during the event

  • Attendees travelling from Richmond can catch a replacement bus to Clarendon, running frequently each day from around 7am.  
  • Alternatively, consider making the easy walk via Windsor Street and Hawkesbury Valley Way from Richmond Station (2.7km) or East Richmond Station (2km) to avoid the queues for rail replacement bus services.  

Buses also replace trains from Richmond to Blacktown (in that direction only) in the morning on Saturday and Sunday to allow the special event shuttle trains to run.

Alternatively, if you have to drive consider parking at a nearby station commuter car park and continuing your trip to the Airshow by train. Nearby station commuter car parks with capacity include Seven Hills, Richmond, Blacktown, Schofields, Riverstone and Mulgrave station car parks.

Trackwork

Planned trackwork is taking place during the event from Saturday 27 and Sunday 28 September on the following lines and may affect how you travel to and from the event. Plan ahead using the Trip Planner

  • M1 Metro Line: Daily from 9am to 6pm, extra metro services will run between Tallawong and Sydenham due to train trackwork on the T1 North Shore Line.Daily from 8am to 6pm, a bus service will run between Tallawong and Schofields, to help get you to and from the RAAF Richmond Airshow.
  • City Circle: Trains run in one direction only, from Central first stop Museum. Some trains may start or end at Central, run to a changed timetable or leave from different platforms. You may need to change trains to continue your journey. The light rail runs in both directions between Circular Quay and Central. If travelling to T1 North Shore Line stations change at Central or Town Hall for metro services to Victoria Cross, Crows Nest or Chatswood, then change for a bus to continue your journey.
  • T1 North Shore Line: From 11.55pm Friday, buses replace trains between Hornsby and Milsons Point, also stopping at Crows Nest and Victoria Cross metro stations. Use metro services between Chatswood, Crows Nest or Victoria Cross and the City. Trains run between Berowra and Central via Strathfield, to a changed timetable. T1 Western and T9 Northern Line trains start and end at Central, platforms 1-14. On Sunday some late-night buses run between T1 North Shore Line stations and Wynyard.
  • T1 Western Line: Trains run to a changed timetable between Penrith and Central, platforms 1-14, and between Richmond and Liverpool only, due to trackwork on the T1 North Shore Line. You may need to change trains at Parramatta to continue your journey towards the City. Daily from 7am to 6pm, buses replace some trains between Richmond and Clarendon or Blacktown. Richmond trains run to a changed timetable and stopping pattern between Clarendon or Blacktown and Liverpool or the City. Extra trains run between Clarendon and Macarthur or Central, due to the RAAF Richmond Airshow.
  • T2 Leppington & Inner West Line: Inner West trains will not run. T2 Leppington trains make extra stops. Trains run to a changed timetable between Leppington and the City and stop at all stations between Lidcombe and Central.
  • T3 Liverpool & Inner West Line: Buses replace trains between Liverpool and Lidcombe. Inner West trains will not run. T2 Leppington trains make extra stops. T2 trains run to a changed timetable between Leppington and the City and stop at all stations between Lidcombe and Central.
  • T4 Eastern Suburbs & Illawarra Line: All Cronulla and some Waterfall trains make extra stops at St Peters and Erskineville. Trackwork on the City Circle may affect how you travel. If travelling to Circular Quay change trains at Central, not Town Hall.
  • T5 Cumberland Line: Extra trains run between Richmond and Liverpool. Daily from 7am to 6pm, buses replace some trains between Richmond and Clarendon or Blacktown. Trains run to a changed timetable and stopping pattern between Clarendon or Blacktown and Liverpool. You may need to change trains at Parramatta to continue your journey.
  • T6 Lidcombe & Bankstown Line: On Sunday from 6am to 4pm, buses replace trains between Bankstown and Lidcombe. Buses also replace T3 trains between Liverpool and Lidcombe.
  • T8 Airport & South Line: Trains run to a changed timetable and stopping pattern. You may need to change trains to continue your journey. Revesby trains run between Revesby and Central only, via the Airport. Most Macarthur trains to the City run via the Airport and continue around the City Circle. Trains from the City to Macarthur run via Sydenham. Early morning and late-night trains run between Macarthur and Central only, via the Airport. Trains between Sydenham and the City Circle do not run. T4 trains make extra stops at St Peters and Erskineville.
  • T9 Northern Line: Trains run between Berowra or Hornsby and the City Circle, due to trackwork on the T1 North Shore Line. If travelling to T1 North Shore Line stations change at Epping or Central for metro services to Chatswood, Crows Nest or Victoria Cross, then change for replacement buses. Extra metro services run between Tallawong, Epping and the City.
  • Blue Mountains Line: Some trains may run to a changed timetable due to trackwork on the City Circle.
  • Central Coast & Newcastle Line: Some trains may run to a changed timetable due to trackwork on the City Circle.
  • Hunter Line: On Sunday, the 18:59 Newcastle Interchange to Telarah train will run up to 7 minutes later than the normal timetable.

Regular route buses

Limited bus options are available within walking distance of the event site, train services are the best way to get to the event.

Additional bus services will run between Penrith and Richmond. Check back closer to the event for more details and plan your trip using the Trip Planner.

Event shuttle buses

Event shuttle buses will run between Tallawong metro station and Schofields train station to help attendees connect with trains to Clarendon.

Shuttle buses will run at the following times:

  • 8am to 11am every 6 minutes
  • 11am to 2pm every 10 minutes
  • 2pm to 6pm every 6 minutes

Buses will pick up and drop off at Tallawong Station, Implexa Pde and Schofields Station Stand A on Railway Terrace.

Replacement buses

Replacement buses will run between Richmond and Blacktown throughout the event. Plan ahead and allow extra travel time.

Attendees travelling from Richmond can catch a replacement bus to Clarendon, running frequently each day from around 7am.  

Alternatively, consider making the easy walk via Windsor Street and Hawkesbury Valley Way from Richmond Station (2.7km) or East Richmond Station (2km) to avoid the queues for rail replacement bus services.  

  • Richmond to Clarendon and return (all stations)
    • Route 69T1 from Richmond to Clarendon will run from Richmond Station, East Market St (2753122) every 6-minutes from 7.03am until 6.39pm. 
    • Route 69T1 from Clarendon to Richmond will run from Clarendon Station, Racecourse Rd (2756417) every 6-minutes from 7.20am until 6.56pm. 
  • Richmond to Blacktown and return (all stations)
    • Route 50T1 from Richmond to Blacktown will run from Richmond Station, East Market St (2753122) every 20-minutes from 7.06am until 10.46am. 
    • Route 50T1 from Blacktown to Richmond will run from Blacktown Station, Stand L (2148307) every 20-minutes from 2.30pm until 6.10pm
  • Riverstone to Blacktown and return (all stations)
    • Route 52T1 from Riverstone to Blacktown will run from Riverstone Station (2765253) every 20-minutes from 7.20am until 11.25am.
    • Route 52T1 from Blacktown to Riverstone will run from Blacktown Station, Stand L (2148307) every 20-minutes from 2.20pm until 6.20pm.

L1 Dulwich Hill Line

L1 Dulwich Hill Line light rail services run between Central Station (Grand Concourse) and Dulwich Hill via Darling Harbour and the Inner West. Services run regularly from 5am to 1am daily. Plan your trip using Trip Planner.

Change at Central for train services towards Clarendon on the T1 Richmond Line.

L2 Randwick and L3 Kingsford Lines

L2 Randwick Line light rail services run between Circular Quay and Randwick via Central Station (Chalmers Street) and L3 Kingsford Line services run between Circular Quay and Juniors Kingsford via Central Station (Chalmers Street). Services run regularly from 5am to 1am daily, plan your trip using Trip Planner.

Change at Central for train services towards Clarendon on the T1 Richmond Line.

L4 Westmead and Carlingford Line

L4 Westmead and Carlingford Line light rail services run between Carlingford and Westmead via Parramatta CBD. Services run regularly from 5am to 1am daily. Plan your trip using the Trip Planner.

Connect with trains to Clarendon from Parramatta or Westmead train stations.

Passengers are reminded that trams can’t stop quickly or easily – so please stop, listen and look around for trams and use designated pedestrian crossings.

Traffic is expected to be heavier than usual on approach to the Airbase especially along Richmond Road, Windsor Road, Hawkesbury Valley Way and The Northern Road. Allow plenty of extra travel time as long delays are expected, travel with your group and aim to arrive early to avoid the delays. See the road closuring and driving map (pdf 430KB) for directions and more information on access to the site.

Road closures and changed parking conditions

  • Racecourse Rd will be closed between Hawkesbury Valley Way and the rail line crossing from 6am to 6pm on Saturday and Sunday for the safety of crowds getting to and from the train station.

  • Hobart St from Hawkesbury Valley Way - Local access only from Bowman St
  • Hobart St from Pitt St - Local access permitted for residents
  • Percival St between Hawkesbury Valley Way and Dight St Northbound - Local Access only. RAAF personnel access the RAAF Base via Percival St.

If you have to drive or catch taxis or rideshare, allow plenty of extra travel time as delays are expected on roads approaching the precinct.

A taxi and rideshare drop off area will be located on Hawkesbury Valley Way near the information centre opposite the airbase. See the Airshow transport and event site map (pdf 608KB) to find your way.

Alternatively consider parking or dropping off at a nearby station and continuing your trip to the Show by train to Clarendon Station.

Special event clearways

Special event clearway parking restrictions will be in effect from 7am to 6pm on Saturday 27 and Sunday 28 July on roads near the air base per below:

  • Hawkesbury Valley Way between Racecourse Rd and Hobart St (both sides)
  • Hobart St between Hawkesbury Valley Way and Bowman St (both sides)
  • Hobart St from Bowman St (both sides)

Clearways are strict no-parking zones for all vehicle types, and apply even to local residents and TfNSW Mobility Scheme Permit holders. Check signs carefully as vehicles left in clearways will be towed and a fee applies. If your vehicle is towed, you can search your vehicle registration at the Find My Car website to find its new location, or alternatively call 132 701 to speak to an operator.
