Important Event Information

Up to 100,000 people are expected to attend the Ferragosto Italian Street Festival in Five Dock from 10am to 5pm on Sunday 16 August.

  • Attendees are encouraged to plan their trip and consider all the available travel options ahead of time as road closures will be in place and heavy traffic is expected.
  • Great North Road will be closed between Queens Road and Lyons Road from 3am to 11pm and detours will be in place. The best way to get to the festival is by public transport.
  • The closest train station to the festival is Burwood, where you can change for a regular route bus service towards Five Dock from either station. Buses will be using different routes and stops while road closures are in place.
  • Trackwork: Due to planned trackwork and maintenance buses will replace L1 Dulwich Hill line light rail services from Dulwich Hill to Central on Saturday 15 and Sunday 16 August. Catch buses to Marion for a route 437 or 438 bus towards Five Dock.
  • To help you get around the closures on Great North Road, Canada Bay Council will operate a free shuttle bus from 9.30am until 5.30pm, making stops on Harris Road, Lyons Road, Fairlight Street and Ingham Avenue. See the website City of Canada Bay – Ferragosto for more details on shuttle buses.
  • Remember, you'll need to use an Opal card or contactless payment card/device when travelling on public transport to and from the event. Register your details online at Opal or via the Opal Travel app ahead of time.

If you’re driving, travel with your group and use nearby local parking. Free bicycle parking will also be available on Kings Road and Rodd Road, at the corner of Great North Road, for those riding to the event.

Traffic may be heavier than usual on roads approaching the festival and detours will be in place so allow extra travel time. You can find real-time updates on traffic conditions at livetraffic.com.

Opal

You can use an Opal card for all modes of public transport in Sydney and surrounding regions, including metro, trains, buses, ferries and light rail.

Remember to top up your Opal card before you travel to avoid waiting in line at top-up machines. You can top up your card online or at an Opal retailer.

More ways to pay

If you have a contactless-enabled American Express, Mastercard or Visa debit or credit card, or a linked device, you can use it to pay for your travel by tapping on and tapping off at Opal card readers. Available on all public transport, contactless payments are another way to pay on the Opal network. Adult Opal fare pricing applies and you will receive Opal benefits, including daily and weekly fare caps.

Sydney Metro services are high-frequency, driverless trains running between Sydney’s north-west and south-west via the city. 

The M1 Line operates turn up-and-go Metro services in both directions between Tallawong, Chatswood and Sydenham. 

Metro services start running from early morning, until late at night. 

Change at Epping or Central for a train to Burwood to connect with a regular route bus towards Five Dock.

The closest station to Five Dock is Burwood on the T1 Western Line and T9 Northern Line.

Event Shuttle Bus

To help you get around the closures on Great North Road, Canada Bay Council will operate a free shuttle bus from 9.30am to 5.30pm, making stops on Harris Road, Lyons Road, Fairlight Street and Ingham Avenue. See the Shuttle Bus Route Map for stop locations at City of Canada Bay – Ferragosto.

Regular Bus Routes

A number of regular route services stop within walking distance of the festival on Great North Road:

  • Route 406 Hurlstone Park to Five Dock via Ashfield Station
  • Route 415 Campsie to Chiswick via Strathfield & Burwood Stations.
  • Route 437 City QVB to Five Dock via City West Link
  • Route 438X City Martin Place to Abbotsford
  • Route 491 Hurstville to Five Dock via Ashfield Station
  • Route 492 Rockdale to Drummoyne via Burwood Station
  • Route 502 Cabarita Wharf to Drummoyne
  • Route 530 Burwood Station to Chatswood via Victoria Road

Keep in mind buses will be using alternative stops and diverting around Great North Road between Queens Road and Lyons Road.

Bus Diversions

Buses will be using alternate bus stops and diverting around closures on Great North Road between Queens Road and Lyons Road. 

From 3am to 11pm the following bus routes will be affected:

  • Route 406 and 437: services will start and end their trips at Domremy College, First Ave. Buses will not leave from Hurlstone Park. Stops on Ramsay Rd, Harris Rd and Garfield St will be missed.
  • Route 415: Services in both directions will be diverting around Great North Rd via Harris Rd and Lyons Rd West. Stops on Garfield St and Great North Rd will be missed. Buses will make a stop at a temporary stop on Lyons Rd West at West St (Stop ID: 204689).
  • Routes 438X and 438N: Services in both directions will be diverting via Lyons Rd, Ingham Ave and Fairlight St. Stops on Great North Rd will be missed. Buses will make a stop at a temporary stop on Fairlight St at Ramsay Rd (Stop ID: 2046153).
  • Route 491: Services in both directions will start and end their trips at Domremy College, First Ave. Buses towards Five Dock will make a stop at a temporary stop on Fairlight St at Smiths Lane (Stop ID: 2046104). Buses towards Hurstville will make a stop at a temporary stop on Fairlight St at Ramsay Rd (Stop ID: 2046153).
  • Route 492: Services in both directions will be diverting via Fairlight St and Ingham Ave. Stops on Great North Rd will be missed. Buses towards Drummoyne will make a stop at a temporary stop on Fairlight St at Smiths Lane (Stop ID: 2046104). Buses towards Rockdale will make a stop at a temporary stop on Fairlight St at Ramsay Rd (Stop ID: 2046153).
  • Route 502: Buses will start and end trips at Storey Park, Lyons Rd (Stop ID: 204657) in Five Dock. Services towards Cabarita will start from Lyons Rd opp Storey Park (Stop ID: 204616). Stops on Harris Rd, Garfield St and Ramsay Rd will be missed in both directions.
  • Route 530: services will divert via Harris Rd and Lyons Rd West in both directions, missing stops on Garfield St and Great North Rd.

The closest wharf to the festival is Abbotsford on the F3 Parramatta River Line. From there, connect with a route 438 bus or walk approximately 2.5km to the festival.

Alternatively, catch one of the many ferry services to Circular Quay the catch a T2 Inner West & Leppington Line train to Croydon or Burwood and connect with a local bus service to the festival.

L1 Dulwich Hill Line

Trackwork: 

Due to planned trackwork and maintenance buses will replace L1 Dulwich Hill line services from Dulwich Hill to Central on Saturday 15 and Sunday 16 August.

Catch replacement buses to Marion for a route 437 or 438 bus towards Five Dock.

L2 Randwick and L3 Kingsford Lines

L2 Randwick light rail services run between Circular Quay and Randwick via Central Station (Chalmers Street) and L3 Kingsford line services run between Circular Quay and Juniors Kingsford via Central Station (Chalmers Street). Services run regularly from 5am to 1am, plan your trip using Trip Planner.

Change at Central for trains to Burwood to connect with a route bus towards Five Dock.

Trackwork: 

Due to planned trackwork and maintenance L2 and L3 light rail services will not run between Circular Quay and Central Chalmers Street on Saturday 15 and Sunday 16 August. Use trains or local buses instead.

L4 Westmead and Carlingford Line

L4 Westmead and Carlingford Line light rail services run between Carlingford and Westmead via Parramatta CBD. Services run regularly from 5am to 1am daily. Plan your trip using the Trip Planner.

Connect with trains to Burwood from Parramatta or Westmead Stations. From Burwood connect with buses to Five Dock,

Passengers are reminded that trams can’t stop quickly or easily – so please stop, listen and look around for trams and use designated pedestrian crossings.

Traffic will be heavy on roads approaching Five Dock including Parramatta Road, Queens Road, Ramsay Road, Lyons Road and Barnstaple Road as large crowds travel to and from the festival.

Great North Road will be closed between Queens Road and Lyons Road from 3am until 11pm. Sections of surrounding streets will also be closed during this time, including Murralong Avenue.

Motorists will be detoured via Lyons Road, Ingham Avenue, Fairlight Street, Queens Road and Harris Road.

From 3am to 11pm

  • Barnstaple Rd between Great North Road and Jersey Lane 
  • Cross St between Garfield St and Queens Rd southbound
  • First Avenue between Waterview St and Great North Road
  • Garfield St between Great North Road and West St
  • Great North Road between Queens Road and Lyons Road
  • Henry Street between East Street and Great North Road
  • Jersey Lane between Lyons Road and Service Lane
  • Kings Rd between Harris Rd and Thompson Lane eastbound
  • Kings Rd between Great North Road and Thompson Lane
  • Ramsay Road between Smith Lane and Great North Road
  • Ramsay Road between Fairlight Street and Smith Lane Westbound
  • Rodd Road between Jersey Lane and Great North Road
  • Second Avenue between Great North Road and Waterview St 
  • Thompson Lane between Garfield Street and Kings Road (Thompson Lane will be one-way northbound between Kings Road and Garfield Street for resident access only.

From 6am to 6pm

(local resident access maintained during closures)

  • Harrabrook Ave between Great North Rd and Ramsay Rd
  • Kingsford Ave off Great North Rd
  • Longview St off Great North Rd
  • Murralong Avenue between Great North Road and Ramsay Road
  • Wangal Pl off Great North Rd

There is no designated vehicle pick-up and drop-off area for the event. Taxis, ride-share vehicles and general motorists are advised that traffic will be heavy, and detours will be in place around the closures on Great North Road. Pick-ups and drop-offs should be organised outside of the closure footprint to avoid traffic delays.

A dedicated accessible drop-off zone will be located on Garfield St opposite the Coles car park entrance.

Parking

The Kings Road and Waterview Street carparks will also be closed to the public from 3am until 11pm on Sunday, 17 August 2025. Some limited car and bike parking will be available in the area, managed by council on the day. Visit canadabay.nsw.gov.au for more details.

Local street parking and other car parks are limited in the area with road closures and special event clearways in place. Large crowds are expected and roads in the area will be busy so consider catching public transport.

Special Event Clearways

Special event clearways will be in effect from 2am until 11pm on the following roads:

  • Great North Road between Queens Road and Lyons Road (both sides)
  • Barnstaple Rd, Fairlight St, First Ave, Garfield St, Henry St, Kings Rd, Lyons Rd, Park Rd, Ramsay Rd, Rodd Rd and Second Ave

Clearways are strict no-parking zones for all vehicle types and apply even to local residents and TfNSW Mobility Scheme Permit holders. Check signs carefully as vehicles left in clearways will be towed and a fee applies. If your vehicle is towed, you can search your vehicle registration at the Find My Car website to find its new location, or alternatively call 132 701 to speak to an operator.
