Limited roll-on bikes trial on Sydney-Dubbo XPT services
Phase one of the limited roll-on bike trial on Sydney-Dubbo XPT services concluded on 28 October 2024. Phase two of the trial is set to begin in 2025.
Phase One
Starting Monday, 2 September 2024, NSW TrainLink conducted a limited trial allowing a small number of passengers to roll bicycles onto select XPT services travelling between Sydney and Dubbo.
This limited proof-of-concept trial aimed to explore the feasibility of transporting bikes onboard long-distance regional trains.
During the trial, a small number of passengers were able to board at Sydney (Central) or Dubbo with their bikes unboxed, provided they pre-booked their tickets and adhered to specific criteria. The trial was available exclusively for passengers travelling on services 427 (Sydney to Dubbo) and 428 (Dubbo to Sydney).
Phase Two
For phase two, NSW TrainLink will focus on refining the trial to address community feedback on accessibility and interest to better meet the needs of everyone involved.
Any changes will be carefully considered in consultation with key groups, including our crew, health and safety experts, and union representatives.
NSW TrainLink is committed to keeping all stakeholders informed as we move forward.
Updated information on the trial will be posted on this page.
