Temporary bus route changes coming for West Dapto

From Sunday 27 July, route 30, 31, 32 and some school services in the West Dapto area will run on altered routes and to changed timetables due to impacts from closure of West Dapto Road for road upgrade works. These changes will be in place for approximately twelve months.

Altered routes and changed timetables will be in place for the following services:

  • Route 30 – Kembla Grange to Dapto via Wongawilli: altered route and timetable change
  • Route 31 – Horsley to Wollongong via Unanderra: altered and shortened route
  • Route 32 – Brooks Reach to Dapto: altered route and timetable change

Two stops will be temporarily removed on Bong Bong Road:

  • Bong Bong Road at Robins Creek Drive
  • Bong Bong Road opp. Robins Creek Drive

Residents in Horsley, Kembla Grange, Wongawilli, Stream Hill Estate off Sheaffes Rd and Brooks Reach will need to catch altered route 30 or 32 local services to Dapto.

For passengers travelling further than Dapto, change to a bus or train at Dapto town or station to reach your destination.

For returning passengers, catch any bus or train to Dapto and change to a local route 30 or 32 service.

Students who catch school buses in these areas may have different boarding and alighting times and longer journey times due to necessary diversions.

Changes by route

  • Route 30 will operate on a changed timetable and will now run between the Stream Hill Estate off Sheaffes Rd and Dapto via Darkes Road, and between Dapto and Wongawilli via Bong Bong Road and Horsley Drive in both directions.
  • As route 31 will be shortened, route 30 will now stop at some route 31 stops in Horsley. Stream Hill Estate off Sheaffes Rd residents will now receive a more direct trip to and from Dapto using Darkes Road.
  • Journey times between Wongawilli and Dapto may increase due to more traffic on Bong Bong Road due to the West Dapto Road closure and a new detour through north Horsley to cover route 31 stops.
  • Existing rail and bus connections at Dapto will change, and passengers will need to make new journey plans.
  • Because of an expected increase in road congestion on Bong Bong Road due to the closure of West Dapto Road, to maintain bus network reliability, route 31 will no longer operate as a loop to and from Horsley and will instead run between Wollongong Entertainment Centre and Dapto town centre and station only.
  • Route 31 timetable and stops will not change between Wollongong Entertainment Centre and Dapto town centre.
  • Horsley residents will now need to catch either the route 30 or 32 local bus to Dapto, which will operate on different timetables to the route 31, then switch to a bus or train at Dapto if travelling further. Total journey times between Horsley and Wollongong are likely to increase.
  • Route 30 and 32 will operate in both directions rather than as a one-way loop, and new bus stops will be added on Horsley Drive, Lucas Drive and Fairwater Drive to support this. Horsley residents may now need to board or alight at these new stops for some journeys. Some trips between Horsley and Dapto will now be more direct.
  • Existing rail and bus connections at Dapto will change, and passengers will need to make new journey plans.
  • Due to the shortening of Route 31 bus service, Route 32 will now cover some of the Route 31 stops in Horsley.
  • Route 32 timetable will change, with a slight reduction in service frequencies throughout the day.
  • Existing rail and bus connections at Dapto will change, and passengers will need to make new journey plans.

The following school routes will have new diversions and run to a changed timetable of up to 24 minutes.

  • S195 - morning route – Kembla Grange to St Joseph’s HS, Albion Park HS, 
  • S195 - morning route – Kembla Grange to Dapto PS, Dapto HS and St John’s PS
  • S195 - afternoon route – St Joseph’s HS to Kembla Grange
  • S228 - afternoon route – St Johns PS to Kembla Grange
  • S078 - afternoon route – Dapto HS and Dapto PS to Kembla Grange 
  • S264 - morning route – Dapto to Cedars Christian School and Illawarra Christian School
  • S264 - afternoon route – Illawarra Christian School and Cedars Christian School to Dapto
  • S083 - morning route – Kembla Grange to Dapto PS
  • S083 - afternoon route – Dapto PS to Kembla Grange

Students who currently catch public bus routes 30, 31 or 32  to transfer to a train or another bus to reach their school will also need to use Trip Planner to plan their journey.
