Look out for Baby on Board lanyards and badges to help support expectant travellers

Baby on Board lanyards and badges

A Baby on Board lanyard or badge can help expectant mothers signal they may need a seat on public transport, encouraging safer and more considerate journeys.

If you see someone wearing a Baby on Board lanyard or badge, please consider politely offering them your seat - it’s a small gesture that can make a big difference.

Learn more about the Baby on Board initiative

Travelling while pregnant, or with a baby, can be challenging, especially during peak times. Crowded services can make it difficult to find a seat or stable space, increasing discomfort and safety risks for those who need extra support.

In many cases, early pregnancy or busy commuter environments mean other passengers may not realise someone needs extra consideration. This can leave expectant travellers feeling uncomfortable, unseen or unsure about asking for help.

For other passengers, the situation can be just as uncertain. Many people are willing to offer their seat but hesitate, worried they might offend or misread the situation. This hesitation often results in missed opportunities for small, meaningful acts of kindness.

The Baby on Board initiative provides a simple solution. A Baby on Board badge or lanyard offers a clear, visible signal that the wearer is an expectant mother who may need a seat or extra support. It removes uncertainty, encourages awareness, and gives others the confidence to act with courtesy and care.
