Mariyung fleet coming to the South Coast Line from April 2026
From Tuesday 14 April, the state-of-the-art Mariyung intercity trains will begin servicing the South Coast Line, bringing modern comfort and enhanced accessibility.
A new era for south coast travel
The Mariyung (the Darug word for emu) is designed to deliver a new way to train, with upgraded amenities, modern safety features and inclusive design.
South Coast passengers will enjoy:
- Spacious 2×2 seating, tray tables, high backs, charging ports for devices.
- Dedicated pram, luggage and bicycle space.
- Improved wheelchair access, accessible toilets and inclusive design throughout.
- Modern CCTV systems, emergency help points and doors that sense when it’s clear to close.
These benefits build on work already begun on other intercity lines, with Mariyung replacing older fleets and enabling a more consistent, comfortable journey.
During the transition, commuters may see a mix of Oscar and Mariyung trains over the coming months.
Meet the Mariyung drivers
The South Coast Line is the final intercity line to welcome the Mariyung fleet, following its introduction on the Blue Mountains and Central Coast lines. Further trains will continue to be introduced on these lines as part of the ongoing rollout. To celebrate this milestone, hear from Mariyung train drivers to hear why they, and their passengers are embracing these new trains.
