Travel in the correct car

Some Intercity trains may be longer than the platform at your destination. To safely exit the train you must travel in the correct car when travelling on the following Intercity lines:

  • Blue Mountains
  • Central Coast & Newcastle
  • Hunter
  • South Coast
  • Southern Highlands

It’s important that you check and travel in the correct car so you can exit the train at your destination. Keep in mind, Car One is always at the front of the train.

Plan your trip

We encourage you to pre-plan your trip to make it easier for you to find timetable information, service updates, passenger capacity, and to travel in the correct car.

You can pre-plan with Trip Planner, or by using a transport app.

Once at the station, use the Trip Planner to guide you to the correct car. Messages on platform screens, audio announcements and on board screens will also let you know the correct car for your destination.

Before you travel

Pre-plan your trip with Trip Planner to find the correct car before you get on the train.

In the example below, you are required to travel in Car 5 to 8 so you can exit the train at your destination.

At the station

Indicator screens on platforms let you know the correct car to travel in to arrive at your destination.

In the example below you can see the correct car to travel in for each destination.
