Important Event Information
Vivid Sydney returns for its 13th year to light up the city for 23 consecutive nights from Friday 26 May to Saturday 17 June.
The Vivid Sydney 8.5km light walk is bigger and brighter this year with hundreds of installations along the way. You won’t get to see it all in one night so plan your Vivid Sydney experience over a few nights with three key precincts to visit in the city. Vivid Sydney will also light up Sydney's iconic Taronga Zoo with Wild Lights. There are two new ticketed precincts this year including Royal Botanic Garden Sydney’s ‘Lightscape’ and Wynyard Tunnels ‘Dark Spectrum’.
The city is no place for cars during Vivid Sydney with road closures and parking restrictions in place each night. Public transport gives you the freedom to get the most out of your Vivid Sydney visit, and the ability to start and end your experience at different points along the light walk. You won't get to see it all in one night so plan your trip across a few nights during the festival.
The best way to get around is by public transport with all Vivid Sydney precincts within short walking distance of major transport hubs and plenty of extra services running to help you get there and home again. See our Vivid Sydney Light Walk and Transport map (pdf 712KB) to find your way.
Remember, you'll need to use an Opal card or contactless payment card/device when travelling on public transport to and from the event. Register your details online at Opal or via the Opal Travel app ahead of time.
There will be changes to some public transport services due to road closures and for pedestrian safety during Vivid Sydney so factor in additional walking time and plan ahead as getting to and from the harbour will be different.
On Friday nights from 6pm and on weekends from 5pm buses and light rail services will not run to Circular Quay. Light rail services will end at Town Hall and buses will relocate to Martin Place. As well, on Saturday nights and Sunday of the June long weekend (11 June), trains will not drop off passengers at Circular Quay Station, visitors will need to alight at Wynyard, Martin Place or St James instead and continue on foot to the harbour.
Vivid Sydney attracts large crowds each year, especially on Friday nights and weekends, so if you want to avoid the peak crowds or are travelling with families consider visiting on a weeknight instead.

The majority of charter vessels will be operating from the King St wharf area with some operating from Circular Quay charter wharves on select nights, where people can board a vessel to see the Vivid Sydney lights from the water and see other vessels lit up on the waterways. For more information about charter ferries visit, Vivid Sydney on the water.
