Important Travel Advice

With up to 40,000 footy fans expected, attendees are encouraged to plan their trip and to consider all of the public transport options available ahead of time to avoid heavy traffic. Match tickets include travel on public transport.  

Trains run to Olympic Park from Lidcombe and Accor Stadium is a short walk from the station.

Additional trains will run from the city and west, making additional stops at Olympic Park to help you get to the game, with frequent services after full time.

If you have to drive, carpool with your group and pre-book your parking online ahead of time to secure a space – available until 11:59pm the night before the event unless sold out prior.

Traffic delays are expected on roads approaching the precinct as fans travel to and from the match. Ticketholders should consider leaving the car at home and catching public transport to avoid delays. You can find real-time updates on traffic conditions at livetraffic.com.

Match Ticket Entitlements

Valid pre-purchased tickets to the NRL Preliminary Final: Panthers v Sharks includes travel to and from Sydney Olympic Park on the following transport services. Just show your event ticket to Transport staff when boarding services: 

  • Sydney Trains and NSW TrainLink Intercity services (non-booked services bounded by Bomaderry, Goulburn, Bathurst, Scone and Dungog stations)
  • Sydney metropolitan and outer metropolitan buses
  • Sydney Metro services
  • Sydney and Newcastle Light Rail services
  • Sydney and Newcastle Ferries

Remember to keep your event ticket safe for your return journey or you'll need to use your Opal card, as you must have a valid ticket when travelling on public transport. Your event ticket is valid on trains until 4am the following day. 

Note: an additional train station access fee applies for travel to or from Domestic and International Airport stations. The access fee is not covered by your event ticket travel entitlements.

Transport Park&Ride Car Parks

Park for free when you catch public transport. Transport Park&Ride provides up to 18 hours of free parking each day. All you have to do is complete a public transport trip. Located close to public transport hubs, Park&Ride car parks help you connect more easily to train, bus and ferry services.

Tickets to the NRL Preliminary Final at Accor Stadium include travel on transport and free Park&Ride parking. When leaving the car park use the intercom button at the exit gate to speak with the operator and show your event ticket.

Real-time parking availability allows you to see how many vacant car park spaces are available at Transport Park&Ride car parks.

Sydney Metro services are high-frequency, driverless trains running between Sydney’s north-west and south-west via the city. 

The M1 Line operates turn up-and-go Metro services in both directions between Tallawong, Chatswood and Sydenham. 

Metro services start running from early morning, every 5 to 10 minutes, until late at night. Change at Epping or Central for trains towards Lidcombe then Olympic Park.

The closest station to Accor Stadium is Olympic Park.

Some trains will make additional stops at Olympic Park to help you get to the game, with frequent services after full time.

From the west, trains will run from Penrith every 15 minutes from 3pm, making an additional stop at Olympic Park. Trains from Schofields will run every 30 minutes all stops then direct to Olympic Park until late.

From the city, trains from Central departing from platform 18 will divert into Olympic Park every 15 minutes from 3:26pm. Additional express trains will also run from North Sydney from 4:06pm, stopping at all stations to Central, Redfern, Strathfield then Olympic Park.

Trains between Lidcombe (from Platform Zero) and Olympic Park will run every 10 minutes until around 10pm then every 20 minutes until midnight.

Return express trains will run after full-time towards the city and North Sydney every 10 to 15 minutes until 1am and towards Penrith every 10 to 15 minutes.

Trackwork

Planned weekend trackwork is taking place on Saturday 28 September on the following lines and may affect how you travel to and from the event. Plan ahead using the Trip Planner:  

  • T1 Western Line: Richmond trains make extra stops at Granville and Auburn. 
  • T2 Inner West & Leppington Line: Buses replace trains between Cabramatta and Granville. Trains run to a changed timetable and stopping pattern between Leppington and the City via Regents Park. 
  • T5 Cumberland Line: Buses replace trains between Cabramatta and Granville. Trains run to a changed timetable between Leppington and the City via Regents Park and between Schofields and Olympic Park. Change at Lidcombe for trains towards Richmond or Leppington and Cabramatta or Granville for buses to Canley Vale, Fairfield, Yennora, Guildford or Merrylands. 
  • T8 Airport & South Line: From 9am to 3pm, trains may run to a changed timetable due to trackwork between Revesby and Turrella. 
  • South Coast Line: From 7.30am to 11.30am, at Stanwell Park, all trains leave from platform 1. From 12pm to 4pm, at Stanwell Park, all trains leave from platform 2.

The following Sydney bus services run to Olympic Park: 

  • Route 525 runs between Parramatta and Sydney Olympic Park via Newington (this route no longer runs to or from Strathfield, if you are travelling from Strathfield catch a 526 buses instead).  
  • Route 526 runs between Burwood and Rhodes Shopping Centre via Sydney Olympic Park precinct and wharf.  
  • Route 533 runs between Sydney Olympic Park and Chatswood via Rhodes & North Ryde. 

Sydney Olympic Park Major Event Buses will NOT be running for this game.

Bus Diversions

Buses may be diverting due to road closures within Sydney Olympic Park. Check signs at stops for details.

The closest wharf to Accor Stadium is Sydney Olympic Park Wharf. There is a connecting 526 bus to the venue or alternatively it is approximately a 40-minute walk (3.6km) from the wharf. 

F3 Parramatta River services run regularly to Olympic Park, but services are very popular and may reach capacity. Keep this in mind if you’re planning on catching an F3 Parramatta River service. Plan your trip and allow plenty of extra travel time or consider the alternative public transport options available. 

F3 Parramatta River ferries may be affected by low tide between Parramatta and Rydalmere and replaced by buses. Check for updates here (pdf 77KB).

L1 Dulwich Hill Line 

L1 Dulwich Hill Line light rail services run between Central Station (Grand Concourse) and Dulwich Hill via Darling Harbour and the Inner West. Plan your trip using the Trip Planner

Change at Central for trains to Lidcombe then Olympic Park. 

L2 Randwick and L3 Kingsford Lines 

L2 Randwick Line light rail services run between Circular Quay and Randwick via Central Station (Chalmers Street) and L3 Kingsford Line services run between Circular Quay and Juniors Kingsford via Central Station (Chalmers Street). Services run regularly from 5am to 1am daily, plan your trip using the Trip Planner

Change at Central for trains to Lidcombe then Olympic Park.

Traffic may be heavier than usual on roads approaching Sydney Olympic Park as fans travel to and from the precinct. Travel with your group and allow extra travel time on the M4, Parramatta Road, Homebush Bay Drive and Concord Road. 

If you have to drive, carpool with your group and pre-book your parking online.ahead of time to secure a space – available until 11:59pm the night before the event unless sold out prior.To get to your carpark and avoid the heavy traffic congestion expected at the Homebush Bay Drive roundabout, use Silverwater Road, Holker Street and Hill Road. 

Road Closures

From 1:30am until 11:30pm Saturday 28 September

  • Dawn Fraser Avenue from Showground Road to Edwin Flack Avenue
  • Olympic Boulevard from Herb Elliott Avenue to Kevin Coombs Avenue
  • Murray Rose Avenue from Gate 15, west to Showground Road
  • Grand Parade from Australia Avenue to Olympic Boulevard
  • Showground Road from Dawn Fraser Avenue to Grand Parade

From 2pm until 11:30pm Saturday 28 September

  • Dawn Fraser Avenue from Showground Road to Park Street
  • Showground Road from Dawn Fraser Avenue to Dawn Fraser Avenue
  • Murray Rose Avenue from Park Street, west to Gate 15.

The nearest Taxi Rank is on Herb Elliott Avenue at Park Street.

If you’re using taxis or rideshare, remember that roads will be closed within the precinct. Allow plenty of extra travel time due to the increased traffic expected in the precinct before and after the event.

When leaving, choose a pick-up location away from the immediate area around the stadium to avoid delays.

Sydney Olympic Car Parks

Visit Sydney Olympic Park – Parking to secure your parking space ahead of the game, available until 11:59pm the night before the event unless sold out prior. A flat rate $35 parking fee will apply.

Alternatively, consider parking at a nearby train station commuter car park and continuing the trip to Olympic Park by train. Match tickets include travel on public transport.  

If you have pre-booked a space, follow the directions of staff and have your parking ticket ready to show at the car park entry. Carpool with your group and allow plenty of additional travel time. Use Silverwater Road, Holker Street and Hill Road to get to your car park and avoid the heavy traffic congestion expected at the Homebush Bay Drive roundabout. 

Traffic delays are expected after the game as fans leave the precinct.  

Train Station Commuter Parking 

A number of key train stations have large commuter car parks, so consider parking at a station near you then continuing your journey by train to Olympic Park. 

  • T1 Western Line: Seveen Hills, Blacktown, Rooty Hill, St Marys, Emu Plains and Penrith. 
  • T1 North Shore & T9 Northern Line: Gordon, Thornleigh and Concord West.
  • T2 Inner West & Leppington Line: Fairfield, Warwick Farm, Leppington and Edmonson Park. 
  • T4 Eastern Suburbs & Illawarra Line: Sutherland and Kogarah.
  • T8 Airport & South Line: Padstow, Revesby, Glenfield, Holsworthy, Macarthur, Campbelltown and Leumeah.
