Important Travel Advice
With thousands of extra transport services, large crowds and road closures the best way to get to and from New Year's Eve celebrations in Parramatta is by public transport.
Trains, light rail services and buses run regularly to Parramatta and Westmead Stations, which are both a short walk from Parramatta Park. Some buses also make stops on O’Connell Street at the park.
Remember, you'll need to use an Opal card or contactless payment card/device when travelling on public transport to and from the event. Register your details online at Opal or via the Opal Travel app ahead of time.
Roads will start closing from 4pm in Westmead and 8pm in Parramatta. Traffic will be heavier than usual approaching the area while roads are closed and local detours are in place. See the NYE2024 Parramatta Road Closure Map (pdf 287KB) for details.

Opal
You can use an Opal card for all modes of public transport in Sydney and surrounding regions, including metro, trains, buses, ferries and light rail.
Remember to top up your Opal card before you travel to avoid waiting in line at top-up machines. You can top up your card online or at an Opal retailer.
More ways to pay
If you have a contactless-enabled American Express, Mastercard or Visa debit or credit card, or a linked device, you can use it to pay for your travel by tapping on and tapping off at Opal card readers. Available on all public transport, contactless payments are another way to pay on the Opal network. Adult Opal fare pricing applies and you will receive Opal benefits, including daily and weekly fare caps.
Sydney Metro services are high-frequency, driverless trains running between Sydney’s north-west and south-west via the city.
The M1 Line operates turn up-and-go Metro services in both directions between Tallawong, Chatswood and Sydenham.
Change at Central for a train service to Parramatta or Westmead. Alternatively change at Epping for a bus, or for a train services to Strathfield to connect with trains to Parramatta. The park is a short walk from both stations.

The closest stations to the event are Parramatta and Westmead.
From Parramatta, take the Parramatta Square exit and continue on foot towards the Park via Macquarie St.
From Westmead station, exit towards Railway Pde and continue via Park Ave to Parramatta Park.
The main entry point to the Park is through O'Connell Street (Tudor Gatehouse) or via Macquarie Street.
Trackwork
No trackwork is scheduled for New Year's Eve.

A number of buses run to and from Parramatta Interchange, which is a short walk from Parramatta Park via Macquarie St. Limited buses also make stops along O'Connell St and in Westmead.
The free Parramatta CBD shuttle bus (Route 900) runs regularly in a loop of Parramatta CBD, making stops near the Park on O’Connell Street. This service is limited and will be busy so consider walking instead. See the Shuttle Bus Map for stop location details.

The closest wharf to Parramatta Park is Parramatta Wharf.
From the wharf, walk to Robin Thomas light rail stop via the riverside and Argus Lane to connect with services to Parramatta Square to get within walking distance of Parramatta Park.
NYE service changes: Ferries are very popular on New Year's Eve and will reach capacity early. Many services also stop running by 5.30pm or earlier due to exclusion zones in effect on the water ahead of the harbour fireworks.
F3 Parramatta River services run regularly to Parramatta but services are popular and may reach capacity. Plan your trip and allow plenty of extra travel time or consider the alternative public transport options available.
Please note, F3 Parramatta River ferries between Parramatta and Rydalmere may be affected by low tide and replaced by buses, check for updates here.

L4 Westmead and Carlingford Line
L4 Westmead and Carlingford Line light rail services run between Carlingford and Westmead via Parramatta CBD. Services run regularly from 5am to 1am daily. Plan your trip using the Trip Planner.
Alight at Parramatta Square or Westmead and continue on foot towards Parramatta Park.

L1 Dulwich Hill Line
L1 Dulwich Hill Line light rail services run between Central Station (Grand Concourse) and Dulwich Hill via Darling Harbour and the Inner West. Services run regularly from 5am to 1am daily. Plan your trip using the Trip Planner.
Change at Central to connect with trains to Parramatta or Westmead to get within walking distance of Parramatta Park.
Service changes on NYE: 8pm to 2.30am services will not run between Convention and Central Grand Concourse. Services run until 4am on New Year's Day.
L2 Randwick and L3 Kingsford Lines
L2 Randwick light rail services run between Circular Quay and Randwick via Central Station (Chalmers Street) and L3 Kingsford line services run between Circular Quay and Juniors Kingsford via Central Station (Chalmers Street). Services run regularly, plan your trip using Trip Planner.
Change at Central to connect with trains to Parramatta or Westmead to get within walking distance of Parramatta Park.
Service changes on NYE: From 2pm to 7pm light rail will run to Town Hall only, from 7pm light rail will run to Central only. Services run until 4am on New Year's Day.

If you have to drive allow extra travel time and expect delays as roads will be closed with detours in place. Motorists should also exercise caution as pedestrian activity will be high on roads in Parramatta CBD.

Road closures
Roads will be closed within and surrounding Parramatta Park to safely manage crowds arriving and leaving the festivities.

Parramatta Park will be closed to all vehicles from 6am on Tuesday 31 December 2024. There will be no parking inside the Park and a number external parking spaces around the Park will not be available due to event operations.
Motorists should expect some delays throughout Parramatta CBD and surrounding Parramatta Park, motorists should also exercise caution and be aware of increased pedestrian activity on roads in the area.
Road closures:
- Westmead from 4pm to 10pm: sections of Alfred St, Central Ave, Park Ave and Railway Pde
- Westmead from 6pm to 10pm: sections of Caroline St and Queens Rd
- Parramatta from 8pm to 10pm: sections of Argyle St and Park Pde
- Parramatta from 8.30pm to 10pm: sections of George St, Hunter St, Macquarie St, O’Connell St and Pitt St
Street parking will be removed from 6am at the following locations:
- Park Ave between Queens Rd and Railway Pde
- Railway Pde between Park Ave and Westmead Station
- Queens Rd between Park Ave and Hawkesbury Rd
- Pitt St between Macquarie St and Park Ave.
- Macquarie St between O’Connell St and Marsden St
- George St between O’Connell St and Marsden St

Parramatta car parks
Parking will be very limited and attendees are encouraged to catch public transport.
Roads will also be closed within and surrounding Parramatta Park to safely manage crowds arriving and leaving the festivities.

- Eat Street Car Park*, via Horwood Place only during event.
- Justice Precinct Car Park, entry via Hunter Street
- Parramatta Station Car Park, entry via Wentworth Street

Street parking restrictions
Street parking will be removed from 6am on Tuesday 31 December at the following locations:
- Park Ave between Queens Rd and Railway Pde
- Railway Pde between Park Ave and Westmead Station
- Queens Rd between Park Ave and Hawkesbury Rd
- Pitt St between Macquarie St and Park Ave.
- Macquarie St between O’Connell St and Marsden St
- George St between O’Connell St and Marsden St
Attendees with mobility impairments or accessibility requirements can catch one of the regular route bus services that leave from bus stand A4 at Parramatta Interchange and make stops on O’Connell Street outside the stadium, including routes 600, 601, 603, 604, 606 and 706.
