Important Travel Advice

Attendees are encouraged to plan their trip and consider all the available travel options ahead of time.   

The best train stations for connections to Rosehill Gardens are Parramatta and Westmead where you can connect with light rail services to the racecourse.

L4 Westmead and Carlingford Line light rail services run regularly via Parramatta and stop at Rosehill Gardens, across from the racecourse. Alight at the Rosehill Gardens and continue on foot via Grand Avenue and the underpass to the racecourse. See the Rosehill Gardens transport map (pdf 455KB) to find your way.

Remember, you'll need to use an Opal card or contactless payment card/device when travelling on public transport to and from the event. Register your details online at Opal or via the Opal Travel app ahead of time. 

If you have to drive, travel with your group and arrive early. There’s parking on-site at the racecourse or consider using rideshare and taxis instead. Allow extra travel time as traffic may be heavier than usual. You can find real-time updates on traffic conditions at livetraffic.com.

Opal 

You can use an Opal card for all modes of public transport in Sydney and surrounding regions, including metro, trains, buses, ferries and light rail. 

Remember to top up your Opal card before you travel to avoid waiting in line at top-up machines. You can top up your card online or at an Opal retailer

More ways to pay 

If you have a contactless-enabled American Express, Mastercard or Visa debit or credit card, or a linked device, you can use it to pay for your travel by tapping on and tapping off at Opal card readers. Available on all public transport, contactless payments are another way to pay on the Opal network. Adult Opal fare pricing applies and you will receive Opal benefits, including daily and weekly fare caps.

Sydney Metro services are high-frequency, driverless trains running between Sydney’s north-west and south-west via the city. 

The M1 Line operates turn up-and-go Metro services in both directions between Tallawong, Chatswood and Sydenham. Metro services start running from early morning, every 5 to 10 minutes, until late at night. 

Change at Epping to connect with buses to Rosehill or for trains to Parramatta where you can connect with light rail services to the Rosehill Gardens stop. See the Rosehill Gardens transport map (pdf 455KB) to find your way.

Extra metro services run between Tallawong, the City and Sydenham due to train trackwork on the City Circle and T1 North Shore Line.

Trackwork

Planned weekend trackwork is taking place on Saturday 18 January on the following lines and may affect how you travel to and from the event.  

  • M1 Metro LineExtra metro services run between Tallawong and Sydenham due to train trackwork on the City Circle and T1 North Shore Line. Trains do not run between Central and Wynyard, or on the City Circle. T1 North Shore Line trains run between Hornsby and Wynyard only. Light rail services run between Central and Circular Quay.
  • City Circle: T rains will not run on the City Circle, or between Central and Wynyard. For travel around the City use metro, light rail or local bus services. T4 Eastern Suburbs Line trains continue to run between Central and Bondi Junction.  
  • T1 North Shore Line: Trains run to a changed timetable between Berowra and Wynyard only. Trains will not run between Wynyard and Central, or on the City Circle. If travelling to the City use metro services, or change at Wynyard for light rail or local bus services.
  • T1 Western LinePenrith trains run to a changed timetable between Penrith and Central, platforms 1-12 only, and make extra stops at Flemington, Homebush and Burwood. Trackwork on the City Circle may also affect how you travel. Change at Central for metro, light rail or local bus services. Richmond trains run between Richmond and Liverpool only. Change trains at Parramatta to continue your journey towards the City. From 11pm Saturday to 5.30am Sunday, buses replace trains between Lidcombe and Central. Trains run to a changed timetable between Penrith and Olympic Park. 
  • T2 Leppington & Inner West Line: B uses replace Inner West trains between Strathfield and Central. Express trains continue to run, stopping at Strathfield, Burwood, Redfern and the City. Trains run to a changed timetable between Leppington and Olympic Park via Granville and between Leppington and Lidcombe via Regents Park. Change trains at Lidcombe to continue your journey T1 Western Line Penrith trains make extra stops at Flemington, Homebush and Burwood. From 11pm Saturday to 5.30am Sunday, buses replace trains between Lidcombe and Central. 
  • T3 Liverpool & Inner West Line: B uses replace Inner West trains between Strathfield and Central. Express trains continue to run. Trains run between Leppington or Liverpool and Lidcombe via Regents Park. Change trains at Lidcombe to continue your journey. T1 Western Line trains make extra stops at Flemington, Homebush and Burwood. From 11pm Saturday to 5.30am Sunday, buses replace trains between Lidcombe and Central. 
  • T4 Eastern Suburbs & Illawarra Line: Some trains make extra stops at St Peters and Erskineville.
  • T5 Cumberland Line: Some trains run to a changed timetable. 
  • T6 Lidcombe & Bankstown Line: Buses replace trains between Bankstown and Lidcombe. Most trains run between Leppington and Lidcombe via Regents Park, to a changed timetable. Trains run between Leppington and Lidcombe via Regents Park. Change at Lidcombe to continue your journey.
  • T8 Airport & South LineTrains run to a changed timetable and stopping pattern. You may need to change trains to continue your journey. Revesby trains run between Revesby and Central only, via the Airport. Most Macarthur trains run between Macarthur and Sydenham only. Change at: Revesby for trains to Airport station or Sydenham for T4 trains towards Bondi Junction, or metro services to the CityEarly morning and late-night trains run between Macarthur and Central via the Airport. T4 trains make extra stops at St Peters and Erskineville. Trackwork on the City Circle may also affect how you travel.
  • T9 Northern Line: Trains run to a changed timetable between Hornsby and Central, platforms 1-12, due to City Circle trackwork. Change at Central for metro, light rail or local bus services. Saturday and Sunday, daily until 8am, trains run to a reduced frequency, every 30 minutes. From 11.30pm Saturday to 5.30am Sunday, buses replace trains between Strathfield and Central. Trains run between Hornsby and Strathfield, some to a changed timetable.
  • Blue Mountains Line: Trains may run to a changed timetable due to trackwork between Strathfield and Central. On Saturday from 9.40pm to 3am and Sunday from 7.40pm to 2am, buses replace trains between Lithgow and Springwood. 
  • Central Coast & Newcastle Line: Trains may run to a changed timetable due to trackwork between Strathfield and Central. From 11pm Saturday to 5.30am Sunday, buses replace trains between Strathfield and Central. Trains run between Strathfield and Central Coast & Newcastle Line stations up to 30 minutes later than the normal timetable.
  • Southern Highlands Line: From 4.40am to 4.50pm, buses replace trains between Goulburn, Moss Vale and Campbelltown. Trackwork also affects T8 Airport & South Line trains.

From Parramatta Interchange, route 920 services run towards Rosehill making stops near the racecourse. Services run every 20 minutes on weekends. Route 920:

  • Services leave from Parramatta Station Interchange, Stand A2, and drop off on James Ruse Drive opposite Prospect Street.
  • Services leave from James Ruse Drive at Prospect Street and drop off at Parramatta Interchange.

The closest wharf to the Rosehill Racecourse is Parramatta Wharf.

From the wharf, walk to the Robin Thomas light rail stop via the riverside and Argus Lane to connect with services to Rosehill Gardens stop to get within short walking distance of the racecourse.

F3 Parramatta River services run regularly to Parramatta, but services are very popular and may reach capacity. Keep this in mind if you’re planning on catching an F3 Parramatta River service. Plan your trip and allow plenty of extra travel time or consider the alternative public transport options available. 

Please note, F3 Parramatta River ferries between Parramatta and Rydalmere may be affected by low tide and replaced by buses, check for updates here.

L4 Westmead and Carlingford Line

L4 Westmead and Carlingford Line light rail services run between Carlingford and Westmead via Parramatta CBD. Services run regularly from 5am to 1am daily. Plan your trip using the Trip Planner.

L1 Dulwich Hill Line

L1 Dulwich Hill Line light rail services run between Central Station (Grand Concourse) and Dulwich Hill via Darling Harbour and the Inner West. Services run regularly from 5am to 1am daily. Use the Trip Planner to plan your trip.

From Central, change for trains to Parramatta to connect with light rail to Rosehill Gardens.

L2 Randwick and L3 Kingsford Lines

L2 Randwick light rail services run between Circular Quay and Randwick via Central Station (Chalmers Street) and L3 Kingsford line services run between Circular Quay and Juniors Kingsford via Central Station (Chalmers Street). Services run regularly, plan your trip using Trip Planner

From Central, change for trains to Parramatta to connect with light rail to Rosehill Gardens.

  • Train trackwork on the City Circle and T1 North Shore Line may affect how you travel.
  • Trains do not run between Central and Wynyard, or on the City Circle.  
  • Change at Wynyard for trains to T1 North Shore Line stations. 
  • For travel to or from Wynyard or Circular Quay use L2 or L3 light rail services. 
  • From 7am to 7pm, extra L2 and L3 light rail services run between Circular Quay and Randwick or Juniors Kingsford.

Traffic may be heavier than usual on James Ruse Drive and Hassall Street approaching the racecourse so allow extra travel time.

Drivers are reminded that light rail services are running between Westmead, Parramatta and Carlingford. Trams can’t stop quickly or easily – so exercise extra caution when driving in the area. Read the news story for more information.

Drop-off: taxis enter Rosehill Gardens Racecourse through the Grand Avenue gates but are not permitted to stop on James Ruse Drive or Grand Avenue.

Pick-up: taxis are located on Oak Street over the Equine Bridge located at the Might and Power entry.

Free unreserved members parking is available in: 

  • P4 and P5 car parks located on James Ruse Drive and Prospect Street. 
  • P6 Infield car park via Gate 2 on Unwin Street. 

Reserved members car parking is available for those with annual car park passes.
