Important Travel Advice
With thousands of footy fans expected at the Sydney Derby, ticketholders are urged to catch public transport and leave the car at home to avoid significant traffic delays and the high demand for parking.
Transport
- Travel on trains, metro and light rail is included in tickets to the GWS Giants v Swans game, simply show your ticket to transport staff when boarding services. For travel on buses and ferries, you'll need to use an Opal card or contactless payment card/device.
- Trains run regularly to Olympic Park from Lidcombe and the venue is a short walk from the station.
- As well, express trains will also run from Central every 20 minutes from 6pm to help you get to Olympic Park. Return services will run after the game.
Driving
- If you need to drive, pre-book parking online to guarantee a car space.
- Expect traffic delays approaching the precinct and entering car parks as fans make their way to the match in the already busy evening peak. You can find real-time updates on traffic conditions at livetraffic.com.
- If you have pre-booked parking, follow the directions of staff and have your parking ticket ready to show at the car park entry.
- You can also consider parking at a nearby train station commuter car park and continuing your trip by train to Olympic Park.
- If you're getting dropped off or catching rideshare, taxi ranks are located on Herb Elliott Avenue. Allow plenty of extra travel time on the roads.
Match ticket entitlements
Valid pre-purchased tickets to GWS Giants v Sydney Swans on Friday 25 July at ENGIE Stadium include travel to and from Olympic Park on the following transport services, just show your event ticket to transport staff when boarding:
- Sydney Trains and NSW TrainLink Intercity services (non-booked services bounded by Bomaderry, Goulburn, Bathurst, Scone and Dungog stations)
- Sydney Metro services
- Sydney, Parramatta and Newcastle Light Rail services
Remember to keep your event ticket safe for your return journey or you'll need to use your Opal card or contactless payment method, as you must have a valid ticket when travelling on public transport. Your event ticket is valid on the modes of public transport listed above until 4am the following day.
Note: an additional train station access fee applies for travel to or from Domestic and International Airport stations. The access fee is not covered by your event ticket travel entitlements.

Opal
You can use an Opal card for all modes of public transport in Sydney and surrounding regions, including metro, trains, buses, ferries and light rail.
Remember to top up your Opal card before you travel to avoid waiting in line at top-up machines. You can top up your card online or at an Opal retailer.
More ways to pay
If you have a contactless-enabled American Express, Mastercard or Visa debit or credit card, or a linked device, you can use it to pay for your travel by tapping on and tapping off at Opal card readers. Available on all public transport, contactless payments are another way to pay on the Opal network. Adult Opal fare pricing applies and you will receive Opal benefits, including daily and weekly fare caps.
Transport Park&Ride Car Parks
Park for free when you catch public transport. Transport Park&Ride provides up to 18 hours of free parking each day. All you have to do is complete a public transport trip. Located close to public transport hubs, Park&Ride car parks help you connect more easily to train, bus and ferry services.
Tickets to GWS Giants v Sydney Swans at ENGIE Stadium on 25 July include travel on transport and free Park&Ride parking. When leaving the car park use the intercom button at the exit gate to speak with the operator and show your event ticket.

Sydney Metro services are high-frequency, driverless trains running between Sydney’s north-west and south-west via the city.
The M1 Line operates turn up-and-go Metro services between Tallawong, Chatswood and Sydenham from early morning until late.
Change at Central to connect with express train services to Olympic Park from 6pm. Alternatively, change at Epping for a train towards Lidcombe then Olympic Park.

The closest station to ENGIE Stadium is Olympic Park and match tickets include travel on trains.
Trains run regularly to Lidcombe where you can head to Platform Zero for a direct train to Olympic Park, running every 10 minutes until midnight.
Express trains will also run from Central to Olympic Park every 20 minutes from 6pm. Return services will run regularly after the match. Services will stop at Central, Redfern, Strathfield then Olympic Park and vice versa.
Trackwork
Planned trackwork is taking place on Friday 25 July on the following lines and may affect how you travel to and from the event. Plan ahead using the Trip Planner.
- Hunter Line: From 4am Tuesday to 7.30am Friday, buses replace trains between Scone and Maitland. Trains between Dungog, Maitland and Newcastle Interchange may run to a changed timetable.

The following route buses make stops at Sydney Olympic Park:
- Route 525 runs between Parramatta and Sydney Olympic Park via Newington.
- Route 526 runs between Strathfield and Rhodes Shopping Centre via Sydney Olympic Park precinct and wharf.
- Route 533 runs between Sydney Olympic Park and Chatswood via Rhodes & North Ryde.

The closest wharf to ENGIE Stadium is Sydney Olympic Park Wharf. There is a connecting 526 bus to the venue or alternatively it is approximately a 40-minute walk (3.6km) from the wharf.
F3 Parramatta River services run regularly to Olympic Park, but services are very popular and may reach capacity. Keep this in mind if you’re planning on catching an F3 Parramatta River service. Plan your trip and allow plenty of extra travel time or consider the alternative public transport options available.

L2 Randwick and L3 Kingsford Lines
L2 Randwick Line light rail services run between Circular Quay and Randwick via Central Station (Chalmers Street) and L3 Kingsford Line services run between Circular Quay and Juniors Kingsford via Central Station (Chalmers Street). L4 Westmead and Carlingford Line
L4 Westmead and Carlingford Line light rail services run between Carlingford and Westmead via Parramatta CBD. Services run regularly from 5am to 1am daily. Plan your trip using the Trip Planner.
Connect with trains from Westmead of Parramatta stops towards Lidcombe then Olympic Park.
Passengers are reminded that trams can’t stop quickly or easily – so please stop, listen and look around for trams and use designated pedestrian crossings.

Expect significant traffic delays approaching Olympic Park and entering car parks as fans make their way to the match in the already busy evening peak. Travel with your group and allow extra travel time on the M4, Parramatta Road, Homebush Bay Drive and Concord Road.
If you’re driving, carpool with your group pre-book your parking online ahead of time to secure a space – available until 11:59pm the night before the event unless sold out prior.
To get to your carpark and avoid the heavy traffic congestion expected at the Homebush Bay Drive roundabout, use Silverwater Road, Holker Street and Hill Road.

The nearest Taxi Rank is on Herb Elliott Avenue near the Pullman Hotel.
If you’re using taxis or rideshare, remember that roads may be closed within the precinct. Allow plenty of extra travel time due to the increased traffic expected in the precinct before and after the game.
When leaving, choose a pick-up location away from the immediate area around the stadium to avoid delays.

Olympic Park car parks
Visit Sydney Olympic Park – Parking to secure your parking space ahead of the match. A flat rate $35 parking fee will apply.
If you have pre-booked a space, follow the directions of staff and have your parking ticket ready to show at the car park entry.
Carpool with your group and allow plenty of additional travel time. Use Silverwater Road, Holker Street and Hill Road to get to your car park and avoid the heavy traffic congestion expected at the Homebush Bay Drive roundabout.
If you haven’t pre-booked, follow the variable message signs within Sydney Olympic Park to the best available casual parking. Traffic delays are expected after the match as attendees leave the precinct.
