Important Travel Advice

Fans are encouraged to plan their trip and consider all the available travel options ahead of time.  

The closest station to the stadium is Broadmeadow on the Central Coast & Newcastle Line. The stadium is a short walk from the station.

Remember, you'll need to use an Opal card or contactless payment card/device when travelling on public transport to and from the event. Register your details online at Opal or via the Opal Travel app ahead of time.

Free shuttle buses will also run from Newcastle CBD, Charlestown/Belmont, Glendale, Wallsend and Mayfield to McDonald Jones Stadium before and after the game.

If you’re driving, travel with your group and pre-book stadium parking via Ticketmaster or use nearby local parking.

Opal

You can use an Opal card for all modes of public transport in Sydney and surrounding regions, including metro, trains, buses, ferries and light rail.

Remember to top up your Opal card before you travel to avoid waiting in line at top-up machines. You can top up your card online or at an Opal retailer.

More ways to pay

If you have a contactless-enabled American Express, Mastercard or Visa debit or credit card, or a linked device, you can use it to pay for your travel by tapping on and tapping off at Opal card readers. Available on all public transport, contactless payments are another way to pay on the Opal network. Adult Opal fare pricing applies and you will receive Opal benefits, including daily and weekly fare caps.

Sydney Metro services are high-frequency, driverless trains running between Sydney’s north-west and south-west via the city. 

The M1 Line operates turn up-and-go Metro services between Tallawong, Chatswood and Sydenham from early morning until late. 

Change at Epping or Central to connect with a Central Coast & Newcastle Line train to Broadmeadow.

The closest station to McDonald Jones Stadium is Broadmeadow on the Central Coast & Newcastle Line. From the station, the stadium is approximately a 15-20 minute walk away (1.5km). 

Please note that from 5.30pm, Central Coast & Newcastle Line trains run to and from Strathfield only, with buses replacing trains between Strathfield and Central. Plan your trip and allow extra travel time. 

Trackwork

Planned trackwork is taking place on Sunday 20 July on the following lines and may affect how you travel to and from the event. Plan ahead using the Trip Planner.

  • M1 Metro Line: Train trackwork on the City Circle and T1 North Shore Line may affect how you travel. Extra metro services run between Tallawong, the City and Sydenham. 
  • City Circle: Trains will not run on the City Circle, or between Central and Wynyard. For travel around the City use the metro, T4 trains, light rail or local bus services. T4 trains continue to run between Central and Bondi Junction. Light rail services run between Central and Circular Quay. Trackwork also affects trains on other lines. 
  • T1 North Shore Line: Trains run between Berowra and Wynyard only, some to a changed timetable. Trains do not run between Wynyard and Central, or on the City Circle. Use metro services between Chatswood, Crows Nest or Victoria Cross and the City, or change at Wynyard for the light rail. Trackwork also affects trains on other lines. 
  • T1 Western Line: Richmond trains run between Richmond and Liverpool. Change at Parramatta for trains towards the City. From 5.30pm Saturday to 6am Sunday and 9.40pm Sunday to 2am Monday, buses replace trains between Strathfield and Central. Trains run to a changed timetable between Penrith and Strathfield, making extra stops at Flemington and Homebush. From 6am to 9.40pm, trains run to a changed timetable between Penrith and Central, platforms 1-14 only, and make an extra stop at Burwood.  
  • T2 Leppington & Inner West Line: From 5.30pm Saturday to 6am Sunday and from 9.40pm Sunday to 2am Monday, buses replace trains between Strathfield and Central. Trains run to a changed timetable between Leppington and Olympic Park via Granville, or between Leppington and Lidcombe via Regents Park. Change trains at Lidcombe to continue your journey. T1 trains run between Lidcombe and Strathfield. T9 trains run between Strathfield and Ashfield. From 6am to 9.40pm, buses replace Inner West Line trains between Strathfield and Central. Trains run to a changed timetable between Leppington and Central, platforms 1-14, via Granville or Regents Park, making an extra stop at Homebush, then stopping at Strathfield, Burwood, Redfern and Central only. T9 trains run between Strathfield and Ashfield, making extra stops at Burwood and Croydon. Trackwork on the City Circle may also affect how you travel. Change at Central for metro, light rail or local bus services to continue your journey. 
  • T3 Liverpool & Inner West Line: From 5.30pm Saturday to 6am Sunday and from 9.40pm Sunday to 2am Monday, buses replace trains between Strathfield and Central. Trains run to a changed timetable between Leppington or Liverpool and Lidcombe only. Change trains at Lidcombe to continue your journey. T1 trains run between Lidcombe and Strathfield. T9 trains run between Strathfield and Ashfield. From 6am to 9.40pm, buses replace Inner West Line trains between Strathfield and Central. Trains run to a changed timetable between Leppington and Central, platforms 1-14, via Regents Park, making an extra stop at Homebush, then stopping at Strathfield, Burwood, Redfern and Central only. T9 trains run between Strathfield and Ashfield, making extra stops at Burwood and Croydon. Trackwork on the City Circle may also affect how you travel. Change at Central for metro, light rail or local bus services to continue your journey. 
  • T4 Eastern Suburbs & Illawarra Line: All Cronulla and some Waterfall trains make extra stops at St Peters and Erskineville.  
  • T5 Cumberland Line: Trains may run to a changed timetable. Extra trains run between Richmond and Liverpool. 
  • T6 Lidcombe & Bankstown Line: Trains run to a changed timetable and reduced frequency, every 30 minutes.  
  • T8 Airport Line: Trains run to a changed timetable and stopping pattern. You may need to change trains to continue your journey. Revesby trains run between Revesby and Central only, via the Airport. Most Macarthur trains run between Macarthur and Sydenham only.  Change at Revesby for trains to Airport stations or change at Sydenham for T4 trains towards Bondi Junction, or metro services to the City.  Early morning and late-night trains run between Macarthur and Central via the Airport. T8 trains do not run between Sydenham and the City. T4 trains run between Sydenham and Bondi Junction, and make extra stops at St Peters and Erskineville. Trackwork on the City Circle may also affect how you travel. Change at Central for metro, light rail or local bus services to continue your journey. 
  • T9 Northern Line: From 5.30pm Saturday to 6am Sunday and from 9.40pm Sunday to 2am Monday, trains run between Hornsby and Ashfield only. Buses replace trains between Strathfield and Central. From 6am to 9.40pm, trains run between Hornsby and Ashfield only. Express trains run between Strathfield and Central. Change at Epping for metro services to the City or change at Strathfield for express buses or trains to Central. Remain on the train if travelling to Burwood, Croydon or Ashfield. Trackwork on the City Circle may also affect how you travel. Change at Central for metro, light rail or local bus services to continue your journey. 
  • Blue Mountains Line: From 5.30pm Saturday to 6am Sunday and 9.40pm Sunday to 2am Monday, trains run between Blue Mountains Line stations and Blacktown only. Change trains at Blacktown to continue your journey. Buses replace trains between Strathfield and Central. From 6am to 9.40pm, trains run between Blue Mountains Line stations and Central to a changed timetable due to trackwork between Strathfield and Central.  
  • Central Coast & Newcastle Line: From 5.30pm Saturday to 6am Sunday and from 9.40pm Sunday to 2am Monday, trains run between Central Coast & Newcastle Line stations and Strathfield only. Buses replace trains between Strathfield and Central. Change at Epping for metro services to the City or change at Strathfield for express buses to Central. From 6am to 9.40pm, trains run between Central Coast & Newcastle Line stations and Central to a changed timetable. 
  • South Coast Line: From 2.30am to 9.50am, buses replace trains between Bomaderry and Wollongong. Trains run between Port Kembla, Wollongong and Bondi Junction, some to a changed timetable. The 2.39am Kiama to Bondi Junction service will run up to 14 minutes earlier than the normal timetable from Kiama to Coniston, then run to the normal timetable from Wollongong to Bondi Junction.

Stadium shuttle buses

Catch one of the five stadium shuttle services to get to Knights games at McDonald Jones Stadium, free for match ticketholders.

Services will run at regular intervals from selected bus stops from approx. two hours prior to kick-off. Return services will run for around half an hour after full time.

  • Stadium Shuttle 1 – Newcastle CBD: Stops at Queens Wharf, King Street at Bolton Street, Civic Park, Marketown, and Tudor Street at Beaumont Street.  
  • Stadium Shuttle 2 – Charlestown/Belmont: Stops at Charlestown Square and Westfield Kotara. Two services will start from Belmont on the Pacific Highway at Macquarie Street, also stopping on Pacific Highway at Groves Road.  
  • Stadium Shuttle 3 – Glendale: Stops at Stockland Glendale, Cardiff Station, and Lookout Road at McCaffrey Drive.  
  • Stadium Shuttle 4 – Wallsend: Stops at Wallsend Village, Newcastle Road at Blue Gum Road, and Newcastle Road at Dent Street.  
  • Stadium Shuttle 5 – Mayfield: Stops at Wests Mayfield, Mayfield shops, Waratah Station, and Waratah Village

Regular route buses

The closest bus stops to McDonald Jones Stadium are on Turton Road and Lambton Road. Regular routes 13, 23, 25, 26 and 27 run towards the stadium. Check Newcastle Transport for more bus network information.

Ferries run between Stockton and Queens Wharf approximately every 20 minutes.   

At Queens Wharf, change for a light rail service to Newcastle Interchange then connect with trains to Broadmeadow. Alternatively, from King Street near Perkins Street, you can catch a route 13 bus to Lambton Road to get within short walking distance of the stadium.

Newcastle Light Rail services run from 5am to 1am daily between Newcastle Interchange in Wickham and Pacific Park in Newcastle East. With six convenient stops, it’s easy to get around Newcastle’s city centre and connect with train, bus and ferry services.

Catch a light rail service to Newcastle Interchange and change for a train to Broadmeadow where the stadium is within short walking distance.

Traffic may be heavier than usual on roads approaching the stadium as fans travel to and from the match. Carpool with your group and allow extra travel time on roads including Turton Road and Griffiths Road.   

For passenger drop-off, use the allocated 10-minute loading zone in the McDonald Jones Stadium car park. Entry is via the driveway off Turton Road.

McDonald Jones Stadium's taxi and rideshare pick-up/drop-off point is located at Young Road, Broadmeadow.   

Taxis can be accessed after the event by following the signs to Young Road. For further information please contact Newcastle Taxis on 13 33 00.

Pre-paid parking on game days and major events is available only for vehicles with a pre-paid parking ticket. Pre-paid parking tickets can be purchased via Ticketmaster online, by phone or by visiting Ticketmaster box office at McDonald Jones Stadium. Visit Ticketmaster – McDonald Jones Stadium.  

Accessible Parking: designated areas are available in close proximity to each of the stadium's accessible entries. To purchase a Mobility parking please phone Ticketmaster on 136 100 or visit the Ticketmaster box office at McDonald Jones Stadium.

Drop-Off Zone: motorists may drop off patrons in the stadium's car park in the allocated 10-minute loading zone, accessible via the north driveway (near the Knights supporter store) off Turton Road.
