Important Event Information

Large crowds are expected to attend the Cabramatta Moon Festival on Sunday 28 September. Public Transport is the best way to get to the event, with trains and buses running regularly to the area on weekends.  

The festival will be held on Railway Parade, Arthur Street, Park Road, John Street, Cabramatta Road West & Dutton Lane, which is a short walk from Cabramatta Station.

Trains run regularly to Cabramatta on the T2 Inner West & Leppington Line, T3 Bankstown Line and the T5 Cumberland Line. Please note that if you need to travel on the T3 Line, buses replace trains between Liverpool and Lidcombe. You will need to catch a replacement bus to complete your journey. Plan ahead using the Trip Planner.

Remember, you'll need to use an Opal card or contactless payment card/device when travelling on public transport to and from the event. Register your details online at Opal or via the Opal Travel app ahead of time.

Roads in the Cabramatta CBD will be closed for the event and traffic will be heavy on detour routes and roads approaching the area. If you’re driving, travel with your group, plan to arrive early and allow extra travel time. You can find real-time traffic conditions at livetraffic.com. 

Limited street parking is available near the festival and car park spaces will be in high demand. Eventgoers are encouraged to use car parks in Canley Vale or Canley Heights and take advantage of the free shuttle bus service running to and from the event between 9am and 9pm. Opal

You can use an Opal card for all modes of public transport in Sydney and surrounding regions, including metro, trains, buses, ferries and light rail.

Remember to top up your Opal card before you travel to avoid waiting in line at top-up machines. You can top up your card online or at an Opal retailer.

More ways to pay

If you have a contactless-enabled American Express, Mastercard or Visa debit or credit card, or a linked device, you can use it to pay for your travel by tapping on and tapping off at Opal card readers. Available on all public transport services including metro, trains, buses ferries and light rail, contactless payments are another way to pay on the Opal network. Adult Opal fare pricing applies and you will receive Opal benefits, including daily and weekly fare caps.

Sydney Metro services are high-frequency, driverless trains running between Sydney’s north-west and south-west via the city. 

The M1 Line operates turn up-and-go Metro services in both directions between Tallawong, Chatswood and Sydenham from early morning until late.

Change at Central or Sydenham for a direct train to Cabramatta, or change at Epping for a train to Strathfield to connect with a T2 Leppington Line service to Cabramatta.

Extra metro services will run between Tallawong and Sydenham from 9am to 6pm due to train trackwork on the T1 North Shore Line.

The closet station to the event is Cabramatta, which is on the T2 Inner West & Leppington Line, T3 Bankstown Line and T5 Cumberland Line. The festival will be held on John Street, which is a short walk from Cabramatta Station.

Trackwork

Planned weekend trackwork is taking place on Sunday 28 September on the following lines and may affect how you travel to and from the event. Plan ahead using the Trip Planner.

  • M1 Metro Line: From 9am to 6pm, extra metro services will run between Tallawong and Sydenham due to train trackwork on the T1 North Shore Line. From 8am to 6pm, a bus service will run between Tallawong and Schofields.. 
  • City Circle: Trains run in one direction only, from Central first stop Museum. Some trains may start or end at Central, run to a changed timetable or leave from different platforms. You may need to change trains to continue your journey. The light rail runs in both directions between Circular Quay and Central. If travelling to T1 North Shore Line stations change at Central or Town Hall for metro services to Victoria Cross, Crows Nest or Chatswood, then change for a bus to continue your journey. 
  • T1 North Shore Line: Buses replace trains between Hornsby and Milsons Point, also stopping at Crows Nest and Victoria Cross metro stations.  Use metro services between Chatswood, Crows Nest or Victoria Cross and the City. Trains run between Berowra and Central via Strathfield, to a changed timetable. Some late-night buses run between T1 North Shore Line stations and Wynyard. 
  • T1 Western Line: Trains run to a changed timetable between Penrith and Central, platforms 1-14, and between Richmond and Liverpool only, due to trackwork on the T1 North Shore Line. You may need to change trains at Parramatta to continue your journey towards the City. From 7am to 6pm, buses replace some trains between Richmond and Clarendon or Blacktown. Richmond train run to a changed timetable and stopping pattern between Clarendon or Blacktown and Liverpool or the City. Extra trains run between Clarendon and Macarthur or Central. 
  • T2 Leppington & Inner West Line: Inner West trains will not run. T2 Leppington trains make extra stops. Trains run to a changed timetable between Leppington and the City and stop at all stations between Lidcombe and Central. 
  • T3 Liverpool & Inner West Line: Buses replace trains between Liverpool and Lidcombe. Inner West trains will not run. T2 Leppington trains make extra stops. T2 trains run to a changed timetable between Leppington and the City and stop at all stations between Lidcombe and Central. 
  • T4 Eastern Suburbs & Illawarra Line: All Cronulla and some Waterfall trains make extra stops at St Peters and Erskineville. Trackwork on the City Circle may affect how you travel. If travelling to Circular Quay change trains at Central, not Town Hall. 
  • T5 Cumberland Line: Extra trains run between Richmond and Liverpool. From 7am to 6pm, buses replace some trains between Richmond and Clarendon or Blacktown. Train run to a changed timetable and stopping pattern between Clarendon or Blacktown and Liverpool. You may need to change trains at Parramatta to continue your journey. 
  • T6 Lidcombe & Bankstown Line: From 6am to 4pm, buses replace trains between Bankstown and Lidcombe. Buses also replace T3 trains between Liverpool and Lidcombe. 
  • T8 Airport & South Line: Trains run to a changed timetable and stopping pattern. You may need to change trains to continue your journey. Revesby trains run between Revesby and Central only, via the Airport. Most Macarthur trains to the City run via the Airport and continue around the City Circle. Trains from the City to Macarthur run via Sydenham. Early morning and late-night trains run between Macarthur and Central only, via the Airport. Trains between Sydenham and the City Circle do not run. T4 trains make extra stops at St Peters and Erskineville. 
  • T9 Northern Line: Trains run between Berowra or Hornsby and the City Circle, due to trackwork on the T1 North Shore Line. If travelling to T1 North Shore Line stations change at Epping or Central for metro services to Chatswood, Crows Nest or Victoria Cross, then change for replacement buses. Extra metro services run between Tallawong, Epping and the City. 
  • Blue Mountains Line: Some trains may run to a changed timetable due to trackwork on the City Circle 
  • Central Coast & Newcastle Line: Some trains may run to a changed timetable due to trackwork on the City Circle. 
  • Hunter Line: The 18:59 Newcastle Interchange to Telarah train will run up to 7 minutes later than the normal timetable.

The Bus interchange and Taxi Rank will be temporarily relocated to Railway Parade between McBurney Road and Hughes Street, adjacent to Woolworths and Whitlam Library

Shuttle bus

A free shuttle bus service will run from 9am to 9pm. You can park your car in Canley Vale or Canley Heights to catch the shuttle bus to and from the event. See the shuttle bus map for more details. 

Bus diversions 

Due to road closures, buses will be diverting and using temporary stops from 12am on Friday 26 September to 12pm on Monday 29 September. Bus customers are encouraged to plan ahead, allow plenty of extra travel time on the day and be patient as delays are expected. 

The Bus Interchange at Cabramatta Station will be temporarily relocated to Railway Parade between McBurney Road and Hughes Street adjacent to Woolworths and Whitlam library. Services will start and end their trips at the temporary stops and use the following diversions: 

  • Route 805 services to Cabramatta will divert via Park Road and Hughes Street to the temporary stop on Railway Parade. Services from Cabramatta will start trips at the temporary stop on Railway Parade then travel via its normal route.  
  • Route 807 services to Cabramatta will divert via Hill Street and McBurney Road to the temporary stop on Railway Parade. Services from Cabramatta will start at the temporary stop on Railway Parade then divert via Hughes Street and Hill Street to return to route. 
  • Route 815 and 816 services to Cabramatta will divert via Hill Street and McBurney Road to the temporary stop on Railway Parade. Services from Cabramatta will start trips at the temporary stop on Railway Parade then divert via Hughes Street and Hill Street to return to route on Cabramatta Road West. 
  • Route 817 services to Cabramatta will divert via McBurney Road, Park Road and Hughes Street to the temporary stop on Railway Parade. Services from Cabramatta will start trips at the temporary stop on Railway Parade then travel via its normal route.

L1 Dulwich Hill Line

L1 Dulwich Hill Line light rail services run between Central Station (Grand Concourse) and Dulwich Hill via Darling Harbour and the Inner West. Services run regularly from 5am to 1am daily. Plan your trip using the Trip Planner.

Change at Central for trains towards Cabramatta.

L2 Randwick and L3 Kingsford Lines

L2 Randwick Line light rail services run between Circular Quay and Randwick via Central Station (Chalmers Street) and L3 Kingsford Line services run between Circular Quay and Juniors Kingsford via Central Station (Chalmers Street). Change at Central for trains towards Cabramatta.

L4 Westmead and Carlingford Line

L4 Westmead and Carlingford Line light rail services run between Carlingford and Westmead via Parramatta CBD. Services run regularly from 5am to 1am daily. Plan your trip using the Trip Planner.

Alight at Parramatta Square and connect with a train service towards Cabramatta from Parramatta Station.  

Passengers are reminded that trams can’t stop quickly or easily – so please stop, listen and look around for trams and use designated pedestrian crossings.

Heavy traffic is expected on Joseph Street, Railway Parade, Cumberland Highway and Cabramatta Road West as crowds travel to and from the event. Motorists driving through the area should allow additional travel time or consider using an alternative route. 

Road closures 

The following roads and car parks will be closed to safely facilitate the event. All closures will be lifted at 12pm Monday 9 September: 

  • From 12.01am Wednesday 24 September to 12pm Monday 29 September: Hughes Street Car Park will be closed. 
  • From 12.01am Friday 26 September: Arthur Street Car Park will be closed.   
  • From 8pm Friday 26 September: Denton Lane will be closed.  
  • From 12.01am Saturday 27 September: Railway Parade and Dutton Lane will be closed. 
  • From 8pm Saturday 27 September: John Street, Cabramatta Road West, Park Road and Arthur Street will be closed.

While road closures are in place, the Taxi Rank will be temporarily relocated to Railway Parade between McBurney Road and Hughes Street, adjacent to Woolworths and Whitlam Library.

There will be limited parking available in car parks and street parking around Cabramatta however, parking will be in very high demand and is expected to reach capacity early in the day. Attendees should catch public transport instead.

  • John Street/ Hill Street Car Park
  • Cabramatta Plaza Car Park
  • Fisher Street Car Park
  • Cumberland Car Park

Warwick Farm train station also has a commuter car park. From there, you can catch train to Cabramatta Station to get within walking distance of the event.
