Important Travel Advice

Ticketholders are encouraged to plan their trip and consider all the available travel options ahead of time.   

Race day tickets include travel on all public transport modes. Simply show your ticket or ATC members card to transport staff when boarding services.    

Light rail services run regularly to Royal Randwick on the L2 Line or to Kensington on the L3 Line, which is within short walking distance of the racecourse.  

Additional Light Rail services will be scheduled to run between Central Chalmers Street and Royal Randwick to help you get to and from the event. 

If you’re driving, there’s plenty of parking on-site at the racecourse or consider using rideshare and taxis instead; use the dedicated drop-off areas available. Traffic may be heavier than usual in the area so allow extra travel time, you can find real-time traffic conditions at livetraffic.com.  

Event ticket entitlements

Valid pre-purchased tickets to Everest Carnival 2025 at Randwick Racecourse between 20 September and 8 November (inclusive) include travel to and from Royal Randwick Racecourse on the following transport services – just show your event ticket or ATC Members card to transport staff when boarding: 

  • Sydney Trains and NSW TrainLink services (bounded by Bomaderry, Goulburn, Bathurst, Scone and Dungog stations) 
  • Sydney Buses 
  • Sydney Metro services. 
  • Sydney, Parramatta and Newcastle Light Rail services 
  • Sydney and Newcastle Ferries 

Remember to keep your event ticket safe for your return journey or you'll need to use your Opal card or contactless payment method, as you must have a valid ticket when travelling on public transport. Your event ticket is valid on the modes of public transport listed above until 4am the following day. 

Note: an additional train station access fee applies for travel to or from Domestic and International Airport stations. The access fee is not covered by your event ticket travel entitlements. 

Transport Park&Ride Car Parks 

Park for free when you catch public transport. Transport Park&Ride provides up to 18 hours of free parking each day. All you have to do is complete a public transport trip. Located close to public transport hubs, Park&Ride car parks help you connect more easily to train, bus and ferry services. 

Tickets to Everest Carnival race days at Royal Randwick Racecourse include travel on transport and free Park&Ride parking. When leaving the car park use the intercom button at the exit gate to speak with the operator and show your event ticket.

Sydney Metro services are high-frequency, driverless trains running between Sydney’s north-west and south-west via the city. 

The M1 Line operates turn up-and-go Metro services between Tallawong, Chatswood and Sydenham from early morning until late. 

Change at Central to connect with light rail services to Royal Randwick on the L2 Randwick Line or to Kensington on the L3 Kingsford Line.

The closest station to Royal Randwick Racecourse is Central.  

Change at Central for a light rail service to Royal Randwick on the L2 Line leaving from Chalmers Street. Alternatively, catch a L3 Line service to Kensington to get within walking distance of the racecourse. See the Randwick Racecourse transport map (pdf 371KB) for more information. 

Trackwork 

Planned trackwork is taking place on Saturday 20 September on the following lines and may affect how you travel to and from the event. Plan ahead using the Trip Planner

  • T2 Leppington & Inner West Line: Buses replace trains between Cabramatta and Granville. Trains run to a changed timetable and stopping pattern between Leppington and the City via Regents Park. 
  • T3 Liverpool & Inner West Line: Trains run to a changed timetable and stopping pattern between Leppington and the City. You may need to change trains if travelling to Inner West stations. 
  • T4 Eastern Suburbs & Illawarra Line: From 5.40am to 8am trains run between Cronulla, Waterfall and the City Circle, and between Central and Bondi Junction. 
  • T5 Cumberland Line: Buses replace trains between Cabramatta and Granville. Trains run to a changed timetable and stopping pattern between Leppington and the City via Regents Park, and between Schofields and Olympic Park. Change at Lidcombe for trains towards Leppington; or change at Cabramatta or Granville for buses to Canley Vale, Fairfield, Yennora, Guildford or Merrylands. 
  • T6 Lidcombe & Bankstown Line: Trains run to a changed timetable and reduced frequency, every 30 minutes 
  • Blue Mountains Line: Some trains may run to a changed timetable due to trackwork between Blacktown and Lidcombe. 
  • South Coast Line: Buses replace trains between Bomaderry and Wollongong. Trains run between Port Kembla, Wollongong and Central or Bondi Junction, some to a changed timetable. Buses do not run to the train timetable. If connecting with trains at Wollongong you may need to catch an earlier bus to ensure you meet your train connection. From 5.40am to 8am, trains run between South Coast Line stations and Central, platforms 1-14 only. 

Trackwork is carried out on an ongoing basis to maintain the safety, reliability, and efficiency of the Sydney Trains network. A number of regular Sydney Buses travel between the city and eastern suburbs via Anzac Parade and Alison Road, making stops near the racecourse, including routes 339, 373, 374, 375 and 396. 

The bus stop on Darley Road opposite Randwick TAFE will be closed on all Spring Carnival days between 9am and 7pm, affecting bus route 339. Use the bus stop on Darley Road at Centennial Park Main Gate instead.

Catch one of the many ferry services to Circular Quay and change for a light rail service to Royal Randwick on the L2 Randwick Line or to Kensington on the L3 Kingsford Line.

L1 Dulwich Hill Line

L1 Dulwich Hill Line light rail services run between Central Station (Grand Concourse) and Dulwich Hill via Darling Harbour and the Inner West. Services run regularly from 5am to 1am daily. Plan your trip using the Trip Planner

From Central, connect with L2 or L3 Line light rail services to Royal Randwick or Kensington stops (leaving from Chalmers Street) to get within walking distance of the racecourse. See the Randwick Racecourse transport map (pdf 371KB) to find your way.

L2 Randwick and L3 Kingsford Lines

L2 Randwick light rail services run between Circular Quay and Randwick via Central Station (Chalmers Street) and L3 Kingsford line services run between Circular Quay and Juniors Kingsford via Central Station (Chalmers Street). Services run regularly from 5am to 1am daily, plan your trip using the Trip Planner

Catch a light rail service to Royal Randwick on the L2 Randwick Line or Kensington on the L3 Kingsford Line to get within walking distance of the racecourse.

The Royal Randwick stop is located on Alison Road just across from the racecourse. The Kensington stop is located on Anzac Parade, a short walk from the racecourse entry on Ascot Street.

L4 Westmead and Carlingford Line

Westmead and Carlingford Line light rail services run between Carlingford and Westmead via Parramatta CBD. Services run regularly from 5am to 1am daily. Plan your trip using the Trip Planner

Alight at Parramatta Square and connect with a train service to Central from Parramatta Station. From Central, catch a light rail service to Royal Randwick on the L2 Randwick Line or Kensington on the L3 Kingsford Line to get within walking distance of the racecourse. 

Passengers are reminded that trams can’t stop quickly or easily – so please stop, listen and look around for trams and use designated pedestrian crossings.

Traffic will be heavier than usual on roads around the racecourse as crowds travel to and from the event. If you have to drive or are using taxis or rideshare, allow additional travel time. You can find real-time traffic conditions at livetraffic.com

The right-turn bay into Randwick Racecourse gate 1 on Alison Road (eastbound) will be closed.

Trams are running between the CBD and South East so pedestrians are reminded to exercise caution around the tram tracks and cross at designated pedestrian crossings.

Taxis

Taxi entry to Royal Randwick Racecourse is via the Ascot Street entrance where there is a secure taxi rank for drop offs and pick-ups. 

Please note that taxis, rideshare and hire cars are not permitted to stop on Alison Road, Ascot Street or Doncaster Avenue.

A dedicated drop-off zone will also be set up on the western side of Darley Road.

Ride share exclusion zones

There will be restrictions on rideshare pick up locations from 3pm to 7pm due to expected heavy traffic in the area before, during and after the event. Pick-ups on sections of Alison Road, Ascot Street, Darley Road and Doncaster Avenue will be restricted during this time. You will need to select a pick-up location away from the racecourse.

Parking

There is free parking in the Infield car park on-site, entry via High Street opposite UNSW. 

Members Private Reserved Parking is available in the multi-deck car park, entry via Ascot Street. Patrons must display their "members car park permit" at all times

Special Event Clearways

Special event clearways will be in place at the following times and locations:

  • 4am – 7pm: Darley Road between Alison Road and the Grand Drive roundabout (western side)
  • 8am – 7pm: Ascot Street between Doncaster Avenue and the roundabout at the entry to Randwick Racecourse (both sides)
  • 3pm – 7pm: High Street between Doncaster Avenue and the roundabout at the entry to Randwick Racecourse (southern sides)

Clearways are strict no-parking zones for all vehicle types and apply even to local residents and Mobility Scheme Permit holders. Check signs carefully as vehicles left in clearways will be towed and a fee applies. If your vehicle is towed, you can search your vehicle registration at the Find My Car website to find its new location, or alternatively call 132 701 to speak to an operator.

Accessible parking: Disabled car parking is available in the Infield car park, entry via High Street opposite UNSW. A disabled parking sticker must be prominently displayed in the vehicle at all times.
