Check your next departure with the new Opal Travel App widget
The Opal Travel app now has a new widget for Apple iOS users providing rapid rolling updates on your favourite routes direct from your homescreen.
The widget is now available on iOS devices and will be coming to the Opal Travel app on Android later this year.
One the most frequent and essential pieces of information passengers are looking for is when their next service is coming.
Nearly 50 per cent of searches across our trip planning apps and websites are doing quick checks of public transport timetables and the widget offers a new way to streamline this process.
By setting your favourite station-to-station, or stop-to-stop route in the widget, your home screen can become a departure board in your pocket, showing the next three trip options.
The widget will automatically refresh the data several times an hour, and a quick click will open the Opal Travel app for more detailed real-time service updates.
There’s no limit to the number of widgets you can add, so you can have one for your regular train, bus, metro, light rail or ferry route and it will tell you the times as well as the platform, stand or wharf the services will depart from.
Registering your Opal card or contactless payment card in the app enhances the experience for passengers who want to keep a close eye on their travel history, but you don’t need to be registered to access and enjoy the widget.
To add the widget, iOS users with the latest version of the Opal Travel app, should touch and hold the home screen to enter edit mode, then click the ‘+’ button to locate the Opal Travel widget and follow the prompts.
