With changes to transport services in southwest Sydney, riding and walking could be a great part of your commute. Explore riding and walking routes that connect you to alternative train or metro stations. We’ve got lots of tips and tricks to make your journey easier, including free courses and events in your area to help you build your skills.

Southwest Link bike riding routes

Southwest Link bike riding routes offer you a convenient way to reach Sydenham, Tempe and Redfern. These routes mostly use existing cycleways, shared paths, and quiet streets — just follow the pink Southwest Link bike riding route signs.

We’ve got three routes to help get you where you need to go:

  • Hurlstone Park, Dulwich Hill, and Marrickville to Sydenham Station
  • Dulwich Hill and Marrickville to Redfern Station
  • Campsie, Canterbury and Hurlstone Park to Tempe Station via the Cooks River

Bike parking at stations

There is lots of bike parking at all stations between Sydenham and  Bankstown, including 90 secure spaces in an Opal enabled bike shed at Sydenham.

You’ll find bike parking spaces, bookable bike lockers and bike sheds available at many stations, wharves and bus interchanges to make your journey smooth and simple.

Did you know?

You don’t need to book your space in a bike shed – just make sure to link your Opal card beforehand.

Upgraded Marrickville to Sydenham bike and walking route

People living within an easy walk or ride to Sydenham Station will soon have a simple and safe way to get to train and metro services. We are uprgading bike and walking routes between Marrickville Station and Sydenham Station for you to use during the closure.

The bike route uses existing shared paths and cycleways, as well as some new separated bike paths and on-road sections where the speed limited has been reduced to 40 km per hour

It takes just 7 minutes to ride from Marrickville Station to Sydenham Station, and only 20 minutes to walk.

Dulwich Hill and Marrickville to Redfern bike route

Going to Redfern? We’ve got a bike route from Dulwich Hill and Marrickville that can take you there.

This route is mostly made up of existing cycleways, shared paths and quiet streets. 

Did you know?

It’s only 34 minutes from Dulwich Hill or 33 minutes from Marrickville to Redfern Station. Just follow the pink bike route signs!

Cooks River shared path to Tempe Station

Looking for a bike and walking route from Campsie, Canterbury or Hurlstone Park? Check out the Cooks River shared path for a traffic-free trip to Tempe Station.

Riding this popular scenic route to Tempe takes 29 minutes from Campsie, 22 minutes from Canterbury, and just 18 minutes from Hurlstone Park. 

Cooks River shared path is best used in daylight hours before it gets too dark, as there are some unlit sections.

Hurlstone Park to Sydenham via Dulwich Hill and Marrickville

Get on your bike and ride to Sydenham Station in just 17 minutes from Hurlstone Park, 12 minutes from Dulwich Hill and 7 minutes from Marrickville Station.

Once you arrive, park your bike at the bike racks or in one of 90 secure spaces in an Opal enabled bike shed. Or alternatively, take  your bike on any train or metro service.

Did you know? 

On Sydney Metro you can use the multi-purpose areas in the first and last carriages for space to stand with your bike.

Walking

Get your daily steps up by making walking part of your public transport journey during the T3 Line closure. You could walk to alternative train or metro stations, to a new bus route, or even your whole journey.

It is only a 20 minute walk between Marrickville and Sydenham stations.

What is Southwest Link?

As part of the Sydney Metro City & Southwest project, the T3 Bankstown Line will close between Sydenham and Bankstown for up to 12 months while the line is upgraded to Metro standards.

Southwest Link is an integrated transport plan of the transport options available during the closure, including Southwest Link buses, metro, trains, local buses, light rail, riding and walking routes.
