Automated vehicle trials

Transport for NSW is partnering with industry, researchers and local councils to trial a number of automated vehicle services across the state. The trials are in place for a limited time and open to the public to use.

The new services are part of a NSW Government program of automated vehicle trials to understand how technology can benefit our customers into the future. Trials are operating across metropolitan and regional NSW and focused on improving connectivity to the existing public transport network.

Bookings and fares

Services will vary and depending on the operator. Some services may operate to a timetable where you can turn up and use the service without booking like a regular bus, while others may operate like an On Demand service and require you to book a service online.

You can use these services free of charge. We encourage you to give feedback when you use these services and you may be asked to fill in a short survey to help us improve services in future.

Service levels

Trials are being operated to enable you to experience automated vehicle technology and provide valuable feedback to improve future transport services. The trials are research focused and services may be changed or temporarily out of service without notice.

Information on alternate transport options is available through the Trip Planner.

Accessibility

During the trial period only some operators will operate wheelchair accessible vehicles. If you require accessible services, please plan your trip on the Trip Planner to identify accessible options.
