Important event information
Large crowds are expected to travel to and from the annual Norton Street Italian Festa held between Marion Street and William Street in Leichhardt.
Visitors are encouraged to leave the car at home as roads will be closed and parking is limited. Plan your trip as Light rail services will be replaced by buses on the weekend of the event.
The closest station to Norton Street is Petersham on the T2 Inner West & Leppington Line.
From Petersham, you can walk to Norton Street in about 20 minutes (1.5km) via Railway Street and continue north on Norton Street. Alternatively, you can catch a Route 444 bus service from the station to Marion Street.
Trackwork is taking place from 02:00 Saturday 27 October to 02:00 Monday 29 October and may affect how you travel to and from Leichhardt:
- T3 Bankstown Line: Buses replace trains between Lidcombe and Bankstown.
- Central Coast & Newcastle Line: Buses replace trains between Wyong and Hornsby.
To note: As of Sunday 30 September, the Epping to Chatswood rail line has temporarily closed for upgrades for around 7 months before Sydney Metro Northwest services begin in 2019. A number of bus services run to Leichhardt from the Town Hall.
While roads are closed for the event, some bus services in the area will be diverting from their regular routes and using temporary bus stops along nearby roads.
Routes 440, 444, 445 and M10 will be diverting around Norton Street from 03:00 until 20:00. For bus diversion information plan your trip using the Trip Planner.

Sydney Ferries services are very popular and may reach capacity especially on weekends. Keep this in mind if you’re planning on catching an F3 Parramatta River service. Use the Trip Planner and consider the alternative public transport options available.

Note: From Wednesday 3 October, Rydalmere Wharf will be closed for around 5 months for upgrade works. A temporary bus service, Route 535, will run between Parramatta Wharf and Sydney Olympic Park Wharf via Rydalmere Wharf to connect with F3 Parramatta River ferry services. From 00:30, Saturday 27 October until 06:00, Monday 29 October, buses will replace Light rail services between Central and Dulwich Hill in both directions to allow for essential trackwork. For more information, visit transportnsw.info.
Due to access constraints, buses are unable to safely stop or pick up at Capitol Square, Exhibition Centre (running towards Dulwich Hill) and Pyrmont Bay light rail stops. Traffic will be heavy in the area and on approach to Leichhardt including Parramatta Rd, City West Link Rd and Great Western Hwy. Motorists should allow extra travel time in the area and expect delays.
Norton Street between Marion and William Streets will be closed from 03:00 until 20:00 for the festival. A number of surrounding local streets will also be closed to cater for the extra pedestrian activity.
Parking in the area is limited and roads surrounding Norton Street will be closed from 03:00 on the day. All visitors are strongly encouraged to catch public transport and leave the car at home to avoid delays.

Special event clearways
Special event clearway parking restrictions will also be in place on Norton Street between Marion Street and William Street from 03:00 until 20:00. Check signs carefully when parking as vehicles left in clearways will be towed and a fee applies.
