Important event information

Large crowds are expected to attend the BBL Sydney derby at GIANTS Stadium. Attendees are encouraged to catch public transport to get to and from the game. If you have to drive, allow additional time and pre-book parking. 

Opal

You can use an Opal card for all modes of public transport in Sydney and surrounding regions, including metro, trains, buses, ferries and light rail. Receive Opal benefits including daily and weekly fare caps and a Travel Cap of $2.80 on Sundays. 

Remember to top up your Opal card before you travel to avoid waiting in line at top-up machines. You can top up your card online or at an Opal retailer.

If you have a contactless-enabled American Express, Mastercard or Visa debit or credit card, or a linked device, you can use it to pay for your travel by tapping on and tapping off at Opal card readers. Available on all public transport services including metro, trains, buses ferries and light rail, contactless payments are another way to pay on the Opal network. Adult Opal fare pricing applies and you will receive Opal benefits, including daily and weekly fare caps.

Summer Holiday timetable

During the summer holidays including Christmas and New Year, transport services including metro, trains, buses, ferries and light rail will run to a changed timetable. Some services will run to weekend timetables on weekdays and other services, including those to major events, beaches and shopping centres, will run more frequently. Sydney Metro services are high-frequency, driverless trains running between Tallawong Station and Chatswood Station.

Metro services start from the early morning running every 10 minutes until late. Change at Epping to connect with train services towards Olympic Park.

The closest station to GIANTS Stadium is Olympic Park. Catch a train to Lidcombe for a direct service to Olympic Park from Platform 0 running every 10 minutes until midnight.

Attendees are advised that weekend trackwork is taking place on the T1 Western Line with buses replacing trains between St Marys, Richmond and Granville. Customers travelling by train should allow extra travel time as they will need to change for rail replacement buses to continue their trip to and from Olympic Park.

Trackwork

Trackwork is taking place between 02:00 Saturday 18 January and 02:00 Monday 20 January which may affect how you travel to and from the event:

  • T1 Western Line: Buses replace trains between St Marys, Richmond and Granville. On Sunday from 4.30pm, trains run between Parramatta and the City. 
  • T5 Cumberland Line: Buses replace trains between Richmond and Granville.
  • T8 Airport & South Line: Nightly from 22:00 until 02:00 buses replace trains between Glenfield and East Hills 
  • Blue Mountains Line: Buses replace trains between Penrith and Central. 
  • Central Coast & Newcastle Line: Most trains start and end at North Sydney. 

Trackwork is carried out on an ongoing basis to maintain the safety, reliability, and efficiency of the Sydney Trains network. The following Sydney Buses services run to Sydney Olympic Park:

  • Route 525 runs between Parramatta and Burwood via Sydney Olympic Park.
  • Route 526 runs from the Sydney Olympic Park Ferry Wharf to Olympic Park.
  • Route 533 runs from Sydney Olympic Park to Chatswood via Rhodes & North Ryde.

Sydney Ferries services are very popular and may reach capacity, especially on weekends. Keep this in mind if you’re planning on catching an F3 Parramatta River service. Plan your trip ahead and allow plenty of extra travel time or consider the alternative public transport options available.

GIANTS Stadium is approximately 40 minutes walk (3.6km) from Sydney Olympic Park Wharf. There is a connecting 526 bus to the stadium.

L1 Dulwich Hill light rail services run between Central Station (Grand Concourse) and Dulwich Hill. The new L2 Randwick Line services run between Central Station (Chalmers Street) and Randwick. Services run frequently on weekdays and weekends.

Change at Central to connect with trains towards Lidcombe and Olympic Park.

Heavy traffic is expected on roads approaching Sydney Olympic Park including the M4, Parramatta Road, Homebush Bay Drive and Concord Road.

Sydney Olympic Park Authority may close some local roads to accommodate increased public transport services and ensure pedestrian safety during events. For road closure details, check out the interactive map.
