Important Travel Advice

Ticketholders are encouraged to plan their trip and consider all the available travel options ahead of time.

Autumn Carnival 2024 race tickets for Royal Randwick Racecourse include travel on public transport – simply show your ticket, proof of purchase or ATC membership to transport staff when boarding services.

Light rail services run regularly to Royal Randwick on the L2 Line and to Kensington on the L3 Line, both stops are within walking distance of the racecourse. A number of regular route buses also stop near the racecourse.

Please note that if you’re travelling on the T1 North Shore Line, buses replace trains between Hornsby and Wynyard. Catch a rail replacement bus to Wynyard where you can connect with a light rail service to Royal Randwick. Plan ahead using the Trip Planner.

If you’re driving, there’s parking on-site at the racecourse. If you're catching rideshare and taxis use the designated drop-off areas and be aware of no-stopping restrictions on Alison Rd.

Traffic may be heavier than usual as racegoers travel to and from the event. Allow extra travel time – you can find real-time traffic conditions at livetraffic.com.

Valid pre-purchased tickets to 2024 Autum Carnival major race days at Royal Randwick and Rosehill Gardens between 16 March and 20 April 2024 inclusive includes return travel on the following transport services. Just show your event ticket to Transport staff when boarding services: 

  • Sydney Trains and NSW TrainLink Intercity services (non-booked services bounded by Bomaderry, Goulburn, Bathurst, Scone and Dungog stations)
  • Sydney metropolitan and outer metropolitan buses
  • Sydney Metro North West services
  • Sydney and Newcastle Light Rail services
  • Sydney and Newcastle Ferries

Remember to keep your event ticket safe for your return journey or you'll need to use your Opal card, as you must have a valid ticket when travelling on public transport. Your event ticket is valid on trains until 4am the following day. 

Note: an additional train station access fee applies for travel to or from Domestic and International Airport stations. The access fee is not covered by your event ticket travel entitlements.

Transport Park&Ride Car Parks

Park for free when you catch public transport. Transport Park&Ride provides up to 18 hours of free parking each day. All you have to do is complete a public transport trip. Located close to public transport hubs, Park&Ride car parks help you connect more easily to train, bus and ferry services.

Tickets to 2024 Autumn Carnival race days at Royal Randwick and Rosehill Gardens include travel on transport and free Park&Ride parking. When leaving the car park use the intercom button at the exit gate to speak with the operator and show your event ticket.

Sydney Metro services are high-frequency, driverless trains running between Tallawong Station and Chatswood Station.

Please note that due to planned weekend trackwork on Saturday 13 and Sunday 14 April, buses are replacing metro services between Tallawong and Chatswood. Trackwork on the T1 North Shore Line may also affect how you travel. Change at Epping for trains towards Central to connect with light rail services to Royal Randwick. The closest station to Royal Randwick Racecourse is Central.

Change at Central for Light Rail services to Royal Randwick on the L2 Line leaving from Chalmers Street. You can also catch the light rail to Kensington on the L3 Line to get within walking distance of the racecourse.

Trackwork

Weekend trackwork is taking place from 2am Saturday 13 April to 2am Monday 15 April on the following lines and may affect how you travel to the event. Plan ahead using the Trip Planner.

  • Metro North West: Buses replace metro services between Tallawong and Chatswood. Trackwork on the T1 North Shore Line may also affect how you travel. Change at Epping for trains towards the City via Strathfield.
  • T1 North Shore Line: Buses replace trains between Hornsby and Wynyard. Change at Wynyard for a City Circle train or the light rail. T9 Northern Line trains run to a changed timetable between Berowra or Hornsby and Central, platforms 1-12, via Strathfield. The light rail runs in both directions between Circular Quay, Wynyard, Town Hall and Central.
  • T1 Western Line: Trains run between Penrith and Central, platforms 1-12, and make an extra stop at Flemington. Richmond trains run to a changed timetable and stopping pattern between Richmond and Leppington. Change trains at Parramatta to continue your journey towards the city.
  • T2 Inner West & Leppington Line: Trains run to a changed timetable between Leppington and Ashfield or the City via Granville. On Saturday from 6.30am to 10.30am, Inner West trains run between Ashfield and the City only. Leppington trains stop at Homebush, Croydon and Ashfield. You may need to change trains to continue your journey.
  • T3 Bankstown Line: Buses replace trains between Cabramatta, Lidcombe and Sydenham. You may need to change buses to continue your journey. Some T4 Eastern Suburbs & Illawarra Line trains make extra stops at St Peters and Erskineville.
  • T4 Eastern Suburbs & Illawarra Line: All Cronulla and some Waterfall trains make extra stops at St Peters and Erskineville. Daily from 8am to 8pm, extra trains run between Hurstville and Bondi Junction.
  • T5 Cumberland Line: Extra trains run between Leppington and Richmond or Penrith.
  • T9 Northern Line: Some trains run to a changed timetable and stopping pattern. Daily until 8am, trains run between Berowra and Central, platforms 1-12, or between Hornsby and Epping only. Daily from 8am, trains run between Berowra or Hornsby and Central, platforms 1-12 only.
  • South Coast Line: Buses replace trains between Wollongong and Waterfall, then continue to Sutherland. Trains run between Bomaderry, Kiama and Wollongong, and between Port Kembla and Wollongong, some to a changed timetable.  T4 Illawarra Line trains run between Waterfall, Sutherland and Bondi Junction, some to a changed timetable.
  • Southern Highlands Line: On Saturday, buses replace the 8.05am Moss Vale to Campbelltown train and the 10.09am Campbelltown to Moss Vale train. The 9.24am Moss Vale to Central service will run to a changed timetable, up to 15 minutes later than normal.

A number of regular route buses travel between the City and Eastern Suburbs via Anzac Parade and Alison Road making stops near Randwick Racecourse. These include route 339, 396, 373 and 374 buses.

Bus Stop Closure – 9am to 7pm

  • Route 399: Darley Road opposite Randwick TAFE (Stop ID 203144) will be closed for services travelling towards Clovelly. Use Centennial Park Main Gate, Darley Road (Stop ID 203145) instead.

Catch one of the many ferry services to Circular Quay and change for a train to Town Hall to connect with light rail service to Royal Randwick on the L2 Randwick Line or to Kensington on the L3 Kingsford Line.

L1 Dulwich Hill Line

L1 Dulwich Hill Line light rail services run between Central Station (Grand Concourse) and Dulwich Hill via Darling Harbour and the Inner West. Services run regularly from 6am to 11pm daily, and until midnight on Friday. Plan your trip using the Trip Planner.

From Central, change for a light rail service on the L2 or L3 Line from Chalmers Street to Royal Randwick or Kensington to get within walking distance of the racecourse.

L2 Randwick and L3 Kingsford Lines

L2 Randwick Line light rail services run between Circular Quay and Randwick via Central Station (Chalmers Street) and L3 Kingsford Line services run between Circular Quay and Juniors Kingsford via Central Station (Chalmers Street). Services run regularly from 5am to 1am daily. Plan your trip using Trip Planner.

Catch a light rail service to Royal Randwick on the L2 Randwick Line or Kensington on the L3 Kingsford Line to get within walking distance of the racecourse.

The Royal Randwick stop is located on Alison Road just across from the racecourse. The Kensington stop is located on Anzac Parade, a short walk from the racecourse entry on Ascot Street.

If you have to drive or are using taxis or rideshare, allow additional travel time.

A dedicated drop-off zone will also be set up on the western side of Darley Road.

Trams are running between the CBD and South East so pedestrians are reminded to exercise caution around the tram tracks and cross at designated pedestrian crossings.

Taxi entry to Royal Randwick Racecourse is via the Ascot Street entrance where there is a secure taxi rank for drop offs and pick-ups.

Please note that taxis, rideshare and hire cars are not permitted to stop on Alison Road, Ascot Street or Doncaster Avenue.

A dedicated drop-off zone will also be set up on the western side of Darley Road.

Restrictions

Restrictions will be in effect on taxi and rideshare drop-off/pick-up locations to accommodate increased traffic volumes and pedestrians.

No stopping allowed at the following locations between 10am and 7pm:

  • Alison Road between Darley Road and Doncaster Avenue – both directions
  • Ascot Street between Anzac Parade and entry to Royal Randwick – both directions
  • Doncaster Avenue between Goodwood Street and Bowral Street – both directions

Parking

There is free parking in the Infield car park on-site, entry via High Street opposite UNSW.

Members Private Reserved Parking is available in the multi-deck car park, entry via Ascot Street. Patrons must display their “members car park permit” at all times.

Special Event Clearways

Special event clearways will be in effect around the racecourse at the following locations and times on Saturday 13 April:

  • From 4am to 7pm: Darley Road between Alison Road and Randwick Gates Centennial Park (western side)
  • From 8am to 7pm: Ascot Street between Doncaster Avenue and Randwick Racecourse Ascot Street Entry (both sides)
  • From 3pm to 7pm: High Street between UNSW Gate Two and Anzac Parade (southern side)

Clearways are strict no-parking zones for all vehicle types and apply even to local residents and TfNSW Mobility Scheme Permit holders. Check signs carefully as vehicles left in clearways will be towed and a fee applies. If your vehicle is towed, you can search your vehicle registration at the Find My Car website to find its new location, or alternatively call 132 701 to speak to an operator.

Parking

Disabled car parking is available in the Infield car park, entry via High Street opposite UNSW. A disabled parking sticker must be prominently displayed in the vehicle at all times.
