Important Travel Advice

Ticketholders are encouraged to plan their trip and consider all the available travel options ahead of time.  

Light rail services run regularly to Royal Randwick on the L2 Line or to Kensington on the L3 Line, which is within short walking distance of the racecourse.

If you’re driving, there’s parking on-site at the racecourse. If you’re using taxis or rideshare, use the dedicated drop-off areas available. Traffic may be heavier than usual so allow extra travel time. You can find real-time traffic conditions at livetraffic.com

Valid pre-purchased tickets to Everest Carnival 2024 race days at Randwick Racecourse between 21 September and 5 November (inclusive) include travel to and from Royal Randwick Racecourse on the following transport services – just show your event ticket to transport staff when boarding:

  • Sydney Trains and NSW TrainLink Intercity services (non-booked services bounded by Bomaderry, Goulburn, Bathurst, Scone and Dungog stations)
  • Sydney Buses
  • Sydney Metro services.
  • Sydney and Newcastle Light Rail services
  • Sydney and Newcastle Ferries

Remember to keep your event ticket safe for your return journey or you'll need to use your Opal card or contactless payment method, as you must have a valid ticket when travelling on public transport. Your event ticket is valid on the modes of public transport listed above until 4am the following day.

Note: an additional train station access fee applies for travel to or from Domestic and International Airport stations. The access fee is not covered by your event ticket travel entitlements.

Sydney Metro services are high-frequency, driverless trains running between Sydney’s north-west and south-west via the city. 

The M1 Line operates turn up-and-go Metro services in both directions between Tallawong, Chatswood and Sydenham. 

Metro services start running from early morning, every 5 to 10 minutes, until late at night. 

Change at Central to connect with light rail services to Royal Randwick on the L2 Randwick Line or to Kensington on the L3 Kingsford Line.

Please note that planned weekend trackwork is taking place on Saturday 21 September, with buses replacing metro services between Tallawong and Chatswood. Metro services run between Chatswood, the City and Sydenham only. You may need to catch a replacement bus to complete your journey. Plan ahead using the Trip Planner.

The closest station to Royal Randwick Racecourse is Central.

Change at Central for Light Rail services to Royal Randwick on the L2 Line leaving from Chalmers Street. You can also catch the light rail to Kensington on the L3 Line to get within walking distance of the racecourse.

Trackwork

Planned weekend trackwork is taking place on Saturday21 September on the following lines and may affect how you travel to and from the event. Plan ahead using the Trip Planner.

  • Metro North West & Bankstown Line: Buses replace metro services between Tallawong and Chatswood. Metro services run between Chatswood, the City and Sydenham only. T9 Northern and Central Coast & Newcastle Line trains run to the normal timetable between Epping and Central.
  • T2 Inner West & Leppington Line: Buses replace trains between Leppington and Glenfield. Buses also replace T8 Airport & South Line trains between Glenfield and Sydenham. Trains run to a changed timetable between Macarthur and the City via Granville or Regents Park. Inner West trains run to a changed timetable between Liverpool and the City via Regents Park, or between Homebush and the City.
  • T3 Bankstown Line from Saturday 21 to Sunday 29 September: Buses replace trains between Lidcombe, Bankstown and Campsie. Trains run between Liverpool and the City via Regents Park, and between Campsie and the City, some to a changed timetable.     • If travelling between the City and Birrong, Yagoona or Bankstown, catch a train to Lidcombe, then change for a bus.
    • If travelling between the City and Berala, Regents Park, Sefton, Chester Hill, Leightonfield, Villawood or Carramar, catch a direct train.
  • T5 Cumberland Line: Buses replace trains between Leppington and Glenfield. Trains run to a changed timetable between Liverpool and Schofields or Richmond.
  • T8 Airport & South Line: Buses replace trains between Glenfield and Sydenham. Change at Sydenham for train or metro services to the City, or change at Wolli Creek for trains to the Airport. Trains run to a changed timetable between Macarthur and the City via Granville or Regents Park, and between Turrella and the City Circle via the Airport.
  • South Coast Line: From 7.30am to 11.30am, at Waterfall and Helensburgh, all trains leave from platform 1. From 12pm to 4pm, at Helensburgh and Waterfall, all trains leave from platform 2.

A number of regular Sydney Buses travel between the city and eastern suburbs via Anzac Parade and Alison Road, making stops near the racecourse, including routes 339, 373, 374, 375 and 396.

Catch one of the many ferry services to Circular Quay and change for a light rail service to Royal Randwick on the L2 Randwick Line or to Kensington on the L3 Kingsford Line.

L1 Dulwich Hill Line

L1 Dulwich Hill Line light rail services run between Central Station (Grand Concourse) and Dulwich Hill via Darling Harbour and the Inner West. Plan your trip using the Trip Planner

At Central, connect with L2 or L3 Line light rail services to Royal Randwick or Kingsford stops (leaving from Chalmers Street) to get within walking distance of the racecourse.

L2 Randwick and L3 Kingsford Lines

L2 Randwick Line light rail services run between Circular Quay and Randwick via Central Station (Chalmers Street) and L3 Kingsford Line services run between Circular Quay and Juniors Kingsford via Central Station (Chalmers Street). Services run regularly from 5am to 1am daily. Plan your trip using Trip Planner.

Catch a light rail service to Royal Randwick on the L2 Randwick Line or Kensington on the L3 Kingsford Line to get within walking distance of the racecourse.  

The Royal Randwick stop is located on Alison Road just across from the racecourse. The Kensington stop is located on Anzac Parade, a short walk from the racecourse entry on Ascot Street.

Traffic will be heavier than usual on roads around racecourse as crowds travel to and from the event. If you have to drive or are using taxis or rideshare, allow additional travel time. You can find real-time traffic conditions at livetraffic.com.

Trams are running between the CBD and South East so pedestrians are reminded to exercise caution around the tram tracks and cross at designated pedestrian crossings.

Please note that taxis, rideshare and hire cars are not permitted to stop on Alison Road, Ascot Street or Doncaster Avenue.

A dedicated drop-off zone will also be set up on the western side of Darley Road.

Ride share exclusion zones

There will be restrictions on rideshare pick up locations from 3pm to 7pm due to expected heavy traffic in the area before, during and after the event. Pick-ups on sections of Alison Road, Ascot Street, Darley Road and Doncaster Avenue will be restricted during this time. You will need to select a pick-up location away from the racecourse.

Parking

There is free parking in the Infield car park on-site, entry via High Street opposite UNSW.

Members Private Reserved Parking is available in the multi-deck car park, entry via Ascot Street. Patrons must display their “members car park permit” at all times.

Special Event Clearways

Special event clearways will be in place at the following times and locations:

  • 4am – 7pm: Darley Road between Alison Road and Centennial Park round-a-bout (western side)
  • 8am – 7pm: Ascot Street between Doncaster Avenue and Randwick Racecourse Ascot Street entry (both sides)
  • 3pm – 7pm: High Street between UNSW Gate 2 and Anzac Parade (southern side)

Clearways are strict no-parking zones for all vehicle types and apply even to local residents and TfNSW Mobility Scheme Permit holders. Check signs carefully as vehicles left in clearways will be towed and a fee applies. If your vehicle is towed, you can search your vehicle registration at the Find My Car website to find its new location, or alternatively call 132 701 to speak to an operator.

Parking

Accessible parking: Disabled car parking is available in the Infield car park, entry via High Street opposite UNSW. A disabled parking sticker must be prominently displayed in the vehicle at all times.
