to

Important event information

Around 450,000 people are expected over 18 days to visit the 27th annual Sculpture by the Sea exhibition along the iconic Bondi to Tamarama coastal walk from Friday 17 October to Monday 3 November.

With large crowds and very limited parking in the area, the best way to get to and from the event is by public transport.

Trains run regularly to Bondi Junction on the T4 Eastern Suburbs Line where you can change for buses to the beach. Regular route buses also run regularly between the city and Bondi Junction and frequent buses will run between Bondi Junction and Bondi Beach.

Remember, you'll need to use an Opal card or contactless payment card/device when travelling on public transport to and from the event. Register your details online at Opal or via the Opal Travel app ahead of time.

Significant traffic delays are expected on roads approaching Bondi and Tamarama throughout the event, particularly on weekends, so allow plenty of extra travel time if you must drive. You can find real-time updates on traffic conditions at livetraffic.com.

Special event clearway parking restrictions will be in effect each weekend on roads around the beach, as well as one-way traffic conditions and road closures around the coastal walk. Allow plenty of extra travel time.

Opal

You can use an Opal card for all modes of public transport in Sydney and surrounding regions, including metro, trains, buses, ferries and light rail.

Remember to top up your Opal card before you travel to avoid waiting in line at top-up machines. You can top up your card online or at an Opal retailer.

More ways to pay

If you have a contactless-enabled American Express, Mastercard or Visa debit or credit card, or a linked device, you can use it to pay for your travel by tapping on and tapping off at Opal card readers. Available on all public transport, contactless payments are another way to pay on the Opal network. Adult Opal fare pricing applies and you will receive Opal benefits, including daily and weekly fare caps.

Volunteers

Sculpture by the Sea 2025 volunteers can travel for free on Sydney Trains, Metro, Buses, Ferries and Light Rail services. Show your travel free pass to transport staff when boarding services.

Sydney Metro services are high-frequency, driverless trains running between Sydney’s north-west and south-west via the city.

The M1 Line operates turn up-and-go Metro services between Tallawong, Chatswood and Sydenham from early morning until late.

Change at Martin Place to connect with buses towards Bondi Beach or trains to Bondi Junction, then buses to the beach. Please note buses to the beach from the city and Bondi Junction will be busy and queues are expected on weekends, so allow extra travel time.

For Metro service disruption information, check trackwork and travel alerts or plan your trip using the Trip Planner.

The closest station to Bondi Beach is Bondi Junction on the T4 Eastern Suburbs & Illawarra Line.

From Bondi Junction you can catch one of the many regular route buses running to and from the beach.

You can also connect with route 333 buses to Bondi Beach from the city including Circular Quay, Martin Place, Hyde Park and St James.

Trackwork

Planned trackwork is taking place during the exhibition and may affect how you travel to and from the event so plan ahead. Plan ahead using the Trip Planner

  • More information will be available closer to the time.

Trackwork is carried out on an ongoing basis to maintain the safety, reliability, and efficiency of the Sydney Trains network. Check trackwork and travel alerts or use the Trip Planner.

A number of regular route buses run to Bondi Junction and Bondi Beach from the city and eastern suburbs.

Frequent additional buses will operate during the exhibition between Bondi Junction, Bondi Beach, Coogee and Tamarama in both directions each day and Coogee on weekends.

Please keep in mind that Bondi is typically very busy on weekends, so visitors are reminded to be patient and expect delays during peak periods. Avoid the largest crowds by visiting on a weekday instead.
