Important Travel Advice

Attendees are encourages top plan their trip and consider all of the available transport options to get to Sydney Olympic Park.

Transport

  • Trains run regularly to Olympic Park from Lidcombe. Use the Trip Planner to plan your trip.
  • Planned weekend trackwork may affect how you travel to and from the match. Plan ahead and allow extra travel time.
    • Buses replace metro services between Macquarie University and Victoria Cross.
    • Buses replace Inner West trains between Ashfield and Central.
    • Trains run to a changed timetable and reduced frequency on the T6 Line.
    • Trains run to a changed timetable between Berowra or Hornsby and Central on the T9 Line.
    • City Circle and T1 North Shore Line trackwork may also affect how you travel.
  • You'll need to use an Opal card or contactless payment card/device when travelling on public transport to and from the NBL. Register your details online at Opal or via the Opal Travel app ahead of time.
  • Please note that Easter Show infrastructure and fencing will be in place. Follow directions and signage in the precinct as walking routes have changed. 

Driving

  • If you need to drive it, pre-book parking to guarantee a car space – available until 11:59pm the night before the event. An event flat rate $35 parking fee will apply. 
    • P6 car park will be closed due to Easter Show infrastructure.
    • If you have pre-booked parking, follow directions of staff and have your parking ticket ready to show at the car park entry.
  • Traffic may be heavier than usual on roads approaching Olympic Park while basketball fans travel to and from the match. Carpool with your group, plan to arrive early and allow extra travel time. You can find real-time updates on traffic conditions at livetraffic.com.
  • If you're getting dropped off or catching rideshare, taxi ranks are located on Herb Elliott Avenue.

Opal

You can use an Opal card for all modes of public transport in Sydney and surrounding regions, including metro, trains, buses, ferries and light rail.

Remember to top up your Opal card before you travel to avoid waiting in line at top-up machines. You can top up your card online or at an Opal retailer.

More ways to pay

If you have a contactless-enabled American Express, Mastercard or Visa debit or credit card, or a linked device, you can use it to pay for your travel by tapping on and tapping off at Opal card readers. Available on all public transport, contactless payments are another way to pay on the Opal network. Adult Opal fare pricing applies and you will receive Opal benefits, including daily and weekly fare caps.

Sydney Metro services are high-frequency, driverless trains running between Sydney’s north-west and south-west via the city.

Trackwork – Sunday 29 March 

  • Buses replace services between Macquarie University and Victoria Cross.
  • Metro services will run between Tallawong and Macquarie Park, and between Victoria Cross and Sydenham only.
  • Buses also replace Sydney Trains T1 North Shore Line services between Hornsby and Milsons Point.

Change at Central or Epping for a train towards Lidcombe then Olympic Park.

The closest station to Qudos Bank Arena is Olympic Park.

Trains run regularly to Lidcombe where you can head to Platform Zero for a direct train to Olympic Park, running every 10 minutes until late.

Trackwork

Planned trackwork is taking place on Sunday 29 March on the following lines and may affect how you travel to and from the event. Plan ahead using the Trip Planner.

  • City Circle: Trains do not run on the City Circle, or between Central and Wynyard. For travel to Town Hall use metro services to Gadigal (Town Hall) or use the light rail; to Wynyard or Circular Quay use the light rail, Museum or St James. Change at Central or Gadigal (Town Hall) for local buses or walk and T1 North Shore Line stations; use metro services to Victoria Cross then change for a bus. T4 Eastern Suburbs & Illawarra and South Coast Line trains do not stop at Town Hall. Extra L2 and L3 light rail services run between Central, Town Hall, Wynyard and Circular Quay. Trackwork also affects trains on other lines.
  • T1 North Shore Line: Buses replace trains between Hornsby and Milsons Point, also stopping at Victoria Cross metro station.  Change at Victoria Cross for metro services to the City. T9 Northern Line trains run between Berowra and Central platforms 1-14, via Strathfield. Sydney Metro and City Circle trackwork may also affect how you travel
  • T1 Western Line: Trains run to a changed timetable and stopping pattern between: Richmond and Liverpool. Change at Parramatta for trains towards Central or Penrith and Central, platforms 1-14 only, making an extra stop at Burwood. City Circle and T1 North Shore Line trackwork may also affect how you travel.
  • T2 Leppington & Inner West Line: Buses replace Inner West trains between Ashfield and Central. Trains run to a changed timetable between Leppington and Ashfield via Granville or Regents Park.  Change at Strathfield for express trains to Central, or buses if you are travelling to stations between Summer Hill and Redfern. Remain on the train for Burwood, Croydon or Ashfield. City Circle train trackwork may also affect how you travel.
  • T3 Liverpool & Inner West Line: Buses replace Inner West trains between Ashfield and Central. Trains run to a changed timetable between Leppington and Ashfield via Granville or Regents Park.  Change at Strathfield for express trains to Central, or buses if you are travelling to stations between Summer Hill and Redfern. Remain on the train for Burwood, Croydon or Ashfield. City Circle trackwork may also affect how you travel.
  • T4 Eastern Suburbs & Illawarra Line: All Cronulla and some Waterfall trains make extra stops at St Peters and Erskineville but do not stop at Town Hall. For travel to Town Hall, change at Central for metro services to Gadigal. City Circle trackwork may also affect how you travel.
  • T5 Cumberland Line: Extra trains run between Richmond and Liverpool.
  • T6 Lidcombe & Bankstown Line: Trains run to a changed timetable and reduced frequency, every 30 minutes.
  • T8 Airport & South Line: Most trains run to a changed timetable between Macarthur and Sydenham, or between Revesby and Central via the Airport. Change at: Revesby for trains to Central via the Airport or Sydenham for metro services to the City or T4 trains towards Bondi Junction. Early morning and late-night trains run between Macarthur and Central via the Airport. T8 trains do not run between Sydenham and the City. Some T4 Eastern Suburbs & Illawarra Line trains make extra stops at St Peters and Erskineville but do not stop at Town Hall. For travel to Town Hall, use metro services to Gadigal. City Circle trackwork may also affect how you travel.
  • T9 Northern Line: Trains run to a changed timetable between Berowra or Hornsby and Central, platforms 1-14 only. Daily until 8am, trains run to a reduced frequency, every 30 minutes. Sydney Metro, T1 North Shore and City Circle train trackwork may also affect how you travel.
  • Central Coast & Newcastle Line: Sydney Metro, T1 North Shore and City Circle trackwork may affect how you travel.
  • South Coast Line: Buses replace trains between Bomaderry and Wollongong. Buses do not run to the train timetable. You may need to catch an earlier bus if connecting with trains at Wollongong. Trains run between Port Kembla, Wollongong and Bondi Junction, but do not stop at Town Hall. For travel to Town Hall change at Central for metro services to Gadigal or use the light rail.  City Circle trackwork may also affect how you travel.

The following Sydney buses services run to Olympic Park:

  • Route 525 runs between Parramatta and Sydney Olympic Park via Newington.
  • Route 526 runs between Strathfield and Rhodes Shopping Centre via Sydney Olympic Park precinct and wharf.
  • Route 533 runs from Sydney Olympic Park to Chatswood via Rhodes & North Ryde.

The closest wharf to Qudos Bank Arena is Sydney Olympic Park Wharf. There is a connecting 526 bus to the venue or alternatively it is approximately a 40-minute walk (3.6km) from the wharf.

L1 Dulwich Hill Line

L1 Dulwich Hill Line light rail services run between Central Station (Grand Concourse) and Dulwich Hill via Darling Harbour and the Inner West. Services run regularly from 5am to 1am daily. Plan your trip using the Trip Planner

Change at Central for a train towards Lidcombe then Olympic Park. 

L2 Randwick and L3 Kingsford Lines

L2 Randwick light rail services run between Circular Quay and Randwick via Central Station (Chalmers Street) and L3 Kingsford line services run between Circular Quay and Juniors Kingsford via Central Station (Chalmers Street). Change at Central for a train towards Lidcombe then Olympic Park. 

L4 Westmead and Carlingford Line 

L4 Westmead and Carlingford Line light rail services run between Carlingford and Westmead via Parramatta CBD. Services run regularly from 5am to 1am daily. Plan your trip using Trip Planner.

Alight at Parramatta Square and connect with a train service towards Olympic Park from Parramatta Station.  

Passengers are reminded that trams can’t stop quickly or easily – so please stop, listen and look around for trams and use designated pedestrian crossings.

Traffic may be heavier than usual on roads approaching Sydney Olympic Park as attendees travel to the match in the already busy evening peak. Travel with your group and allow extra travel time on the M4, Parramatta Road, Homebush Bay Drive and Concord Road. 

Pre-book your parking ahead of time to secure a space – available until 11:59pm the night before the event unless sold out prior. To get to your carpark and avoid the heavy traffic congestion expected at the Homebush Bay Drive roundabout, use Silverwater Road, Holker Street and Hill Road.

Road closures

Sydney Olympic Park Authority will close roads some roads in the precinct ahead of the Easter Show. Traffic congestion is expected so if you must drive, plan accordingly. For road closure details, visit the Sydney Olympic Park Authority interactive map.

From Monday 9 March 

  • Olympic Boulevard 100m north of Dawn Fraser Avenue adjacent to Cathy Freeman Park amenities, to 200m south of Edwin Flack Avenue outside Qudos Bank Arena. 

From Thursday 19 March

  • Australia Avenue from Murray Rose Avenue to Kevin Coombs Avenue.
  • Showground Road from Murray Rose Avenue to Grand Parade.
  • Grand Parade from Olympic Boulevard to Australia Avenue.

If you're getting dropped off/picked up or catching rideshare and taxis:

  • Taxi ranks are located on Herb Elliott Avenue.
  • An accessible pick-up and drop-off area will be located at the corner of Dawn Fraser Avenue and Edwin Flack Avenue.
  • Remember that roads will be closed within the precinct. Allow extra travel time due to the increased traffic expected in the area before and after each match.
  • After the match, demand for taxis and rideshare will be high. Rideshare prices are likely to be surging. Avoid the traffic delays while roads are closed by considering catching a train or bus outside of the precinct to connect with your ride faster.

  • If you need to drive it, is essential that you pre-book parking to guarantee a car space – available until 11:59pm the night before the event. An event flat rate $35 parking fee will apply.

    • If you have pre-booked parking, follow directions of staff and have your parking ticket ready to show at the car park entry. After the match, expect to allow up to an hour of additional travel time exiting car parks.
