Event Information

The Royal Australian Navy International Fleet Review will be held across Sydney Harbour on Saturday 21 March. The Exercise Kakadu Fleet Review 2026 will see the largest gathering of international warships on Sydney Harbour for more than a decade with up to 30 ships from 20 countries assembling in an impressive display of international sea power. 

There are various vantage points available north and south of the harbour to see the navy vessels as they arrive, anchor and leave the harbour, throughout the day.  

  • Vantage points are available around Mosman and Manly in the north and Darling Point, Rose Bay, Vaucluse and Watsons Bay in the east. See vantage point listing below.  
  • Spectators should plan their trip and consider the public transport options as parking around many of the local vantage points is very limited. 
  • A maritime exclusion zone will be in effect on Sydney Harbour from 6am Saturday 21 March until 12pm Sunday 22 March with speed and wash restrictions in place.

  • Ferries will run as normal across the harbour but may experience delays. Queues are also expected so allow plenty of extra travel time, be patient and follow directions of ferry staff. Be aware you must alight the ferry at its final destination – no round trips permitted.  
  • Additional route 324 and 325 buses will run between 11am and 4pm to the Eastern Suburbs to help you get to vantage points. 
  • You'll need to use an Opal card or contactless payment card/device when travelling on public transport to and from the event. Register your details online at Opal or via the Opal Travel app ahead of time. 
  • If you want to drive, expect heavier traffic approaching vantage points. Allow extra travel time – you can can find real-time traffic conditions at livetraffic.com.

Various vantage points are available around Mosman, Manly, Cremorne Point and Kurraba Point in the north and Darling Point, Rose Bay, Double Bay, Vaucluse and Watsons Bay in the east. See vantage point listing below.

In the North 

  • Manly - North Head  
    • Catch ferries to Manly or buses from the city and North Sydney 
       
  • Mosman - Georges Head Lookout - Headland Park  
    • Catch route bus 111 from Mosman Junction (then 10min walk) 
       
  • Mosman - Bradleys Head Amphitheatre  
    • Catch ferries to Taronga Zoo (then 10min walk) or route 100 buses from the city and North Sydney (20min walk) 
       
  • Cremorne Point – Cremorne Reserve  
    • Catch ferries to Cremorne Point or local buses route 225 from Neutral Bay Junction.  
       
  • Kurraba Point - Kurraba Reserve  
    • Catch ferries to Kurraba Point or local buses route 225 from Neutral Bay Junction. 
       

In the eastern suburbs  

  • Darling Point - Yarranabbe Park and McKell Park 
    • Catch F7 ferries to Darling Point or local buses route 328 from Edgecliff station 
       
  • Double Bay - Steyne Park and Murray Rose Pool and Blackburn Gardens 
    • Catch F7 ferries to Double Bay or route 324 and 325 buses from the city or Edgecliff Station. 
       
  • Rose Bay – Foreshore and Lyne Park  
    • Catch F9 ferries to Rose Bay or route 324 and 325 buses from the city or Edgecliff Station.
  •  
  • Vaucluse - Nielsen Park (Headland or Beach), Hermitage Foreshore, Strickland Estate 
    • Catch route 324 or 325 buses from the city or Edgecliff Station, or Route 387 from Bondi Junction. 
       
  • Watsons Bay - Roberston Park and South Head 
    • Catch F9 ferries to Watsons Bay or route 324 and 325 buses from the city or Edgecliff Station. 

In the city 

  • Sydney CBD Circular Quay - Sydney Opera House  
    • Catch trains, buses, ferries or light rail services to Circular Quay and enjoy the 10min walk along the promenade to the Opera House broadwalk for views of the vessels. 
       
  • Sydney CBD - Mrs Macquarie’s Chair (limited / restricted views) 
    • Catch a train to St James Station then walk. 
    • Note views are restricted at Mrs Macquarie’s Point and surrounding areas including the Botanic Gardens, consider other vantage point locations instead.

Opal

You can use an Opal card for all modes of public transport in Sydney and surrounding regions, including metro, trains, buses, ferries and light rail.

Remember to top up your Opal card before you travel to avoid waiting in line at top-up machines. You can top up your card online or at an Opal retailer.

More ways to pay

If you have a contactless-enabled American Express, Mastercard or Visa debit or credit card, or a linked device, you can use it to pay for your travel by tapping on and tapping off at Opal card readers. Available on all public transport, contactless payments are another way to pay on the Opal network. Adult Opal fare pricing applies and you will receive Opal benefits, including daily and weekly fare caps.

Sydney Metro services are high-frequency, driverless trains running between Sydney’s north-west and south-west via the city. 

M1 Metro North West & Bankstown Planned Trackwork – Saturday 21 to Sunday 22 March  

  • Metro services will not run along the entire line between Tallawong and Sydenham.   
  • Buses replace services between Tallawong and Chatswood only.   
  • Use trains between Epping or Chatswood, the City and Sydenham. 
  • For travel to and from Waterloo use local buses or trains from Redfern.  

From the city connect with buses to the Eastern Suburbs. From Chatswood connect with buses to the north shore/northern beaches.

The closest station to vantage points in the east is Edgecliff where you can connect with buses to Vaucluse and Watsons Bay 

The closest station to vantage points in the north is North Sydney where you connect with buses to Mosman and Manly. 

Trains will run to a regular Saturday timetable.

Trackwork

Trackwork is carried out on an ongoing basis to maintain the safety, reliability, and efficiency of the Sydney Trains network. Trackwork may affect how you travel so allow plenty of extra travel time and plan ahead. Plenty of buses run to vantage point locations across either side of the harbour. Plan your trip to your preferred vantage point using the Trip Planner

Additional route 324 and 325 buses between the city and Watsons Bay/Vaucluse will run every 8 minutes between 11am and 4pm. 

Some bus services may be impacted in local areas as NSW Police implement closures on roads near vantage points are crowd volumes increase. As a result, services will use alternate stops or terminate early. Plan your trip using the Trip Planner

Ferry services are a popular way to travel on weekends and may reach capacity during the event. 

  • Ferries will run as normal across the harbour but may experience delays.  
  • Queues are expected so allow plenty of extra travel time, be patient and follow the directions of ferry staff. Be aware you must alight the ferry at its final destination – no round trips permitted.  
  • Consider the alternative transport options available, including buses, trains and light rail services. 

Ferry routes that travel to vantage points and around the harbour near Navy vessels: 

  • F2 services run between Circular Quay and Taronga Zoo  
  • F5 services run between Circular Quay and Neutral Bay via Kurraba Point 
  • F6 services run between Circular Quay and Mosman Bay via Cremorne Point 
  • F7 services run between Circular Quay and Double Bay via Darling Point 
  • F9 services run between Circular Quay and Watsons Bay via Rose Bay

L1 Dulwich Hill Line

L1 Dulwich Hill Line light rail services run between Central Station (Grand Concourse) and Dulwich Hill via Darling Harbour and the Inner West. Services run regularly from 5am to 1am daily. Plan your trip using the Trip Planner

At Central, connect with L2 or L3 Line light rail services to Town Hall or Wynyard to connect with buses to the east or north. 

L2 Randwick and L3 Kingsford Lines

L2 Randwick light rail services run between Circular Quay and Randwick via Central Station (Chalmers Street) and L3 Kingsford line services run between Circular Quay and Juniors Kingsford via Central Station (Chalmers Street). Connect with buses to the eastern suburbs from Hyde Park or connect with buses to the north from Wynyard.   

L4 Westmead and Carlingford Line

L4 Westmead and Carlingford Line light rail services run between Carlingford and Westmead via Parramatta CBD. Services run regularly from 5am to 1am daily. Plan your trip using the Trip Planner

At Central, connect with L2 or L3 Line light rail services to Town Hall or Wynyard to connect with buses to the east or north.  

Passengers are reminded that trams can’t stop quickly or easily – so please stop, listen and look around for trams and use designated pedestrian crossings. Read the news story for more information.

Exclusion zones 

Exclusion zones will be in effect along the Harbour while the International Fleet Review is underway. 

With a 6-knot speed limit from 6am until 8pm, allow extra time to travel between Sydney Harbour Bridge and South Head on Saturday 21 March. 

Exclusion zones will be active, between 6am 21st March and 12pm 22nd March, marked by yellow buoys and official patrol vessels. A no stopping, drifting and anchoring applies between Garden Island and Point Piper and along the viewing route. At all times, vessels must remain 250 metres from any naval vessel. 

  • Exclusion Zone Active: 6am Saturday 21 March to 1pm Sunday 22 March.  
  • During this time there will be wash and speed restrictions including: 
  • No stopping/drifting or anchoring between Garden Island and Point Piper along the viewing route 
  • 250 metre minimal distance from any naval vessel 
  • 6 knot maximum speed & no wash restrictions: 6am – 8pm Saturday 21 March from Sydney Harbour Bridge to South Head

Safety in the water 

With extra maritime traffic expected on the state’s waterways during the event, NSW Police and maritime authorities will be out in force to ensure operators of recreational and commercial vessels are compliant with maritime laws. 

Before heading out, check the vessel is in good working order, and ensure all the required safety equipment – including lifejackets – is on board. 

Skippers are reminded of their responsibility to ensure there is safety equipment on board their vessels and are responsible for the manner in which their vessel is driven.

Traffic may be heavier than usual on roads around harbour vantage points in the north and east as crowds gather to see the vessels.  

If you must drive allow plenty of extra time and look at your parking options ahead of time – be aware local parking is very limited at most vantage points. 

Road closures 

In Mosman, Bradley's Head Rd will be closed at Athol Wharf Rd from 6am to 4pm. 

There are no planned road closures at other vantage points however NSW Police may implement closures on roads near vantage points if crowd volumes increase or traffic is too congested.
