Important Travel Advice

Attendees are encouraged to plan their trip and consider all the available travel options ahead of time. All TCS Sydney Marathon participants must collect their race bib in person at the TCS Sydney Marathon Running Show

Travel on all modes of public transport, including metro, trains, buses, ferries and light rail will be included for all registered Sydney Marathon participants and volunteers travelling to the Running Show. 

Participants and volunteers will be issued a dedicated TCS Sydney Marathon travel pass in advance and can be presented to transport staff when boarding public transport services to access the Running Show. 

This includes standard timetabled services to and from Sydney Olympic Park, as well as direct ‘Marathon Express’ train services operating between Central and Olympic Park Station. Marathon Express services will run every 30 minutes, providing a fast and convenient option for those travelling from the Sydney CBD. If you’re travelling from other areas, direct trains also run regularly between Lidcombe and Olympic Park.

General public attendees (not event participants) will need to use an Opal card or contactless payment card/device when travelling on public transport to and from the event. Register your details online at Opal or via the Opal Travel app ahead of time. 

If you have to drive, travel with your group and allow extra travel time. Traffic may be heavier than usual on roads approaching the precinct particularly during morning and evening weekday periods. You can find real-time updates on traffic conditions at livetraffic.com.

Sydney Marathon 2026 participants and volunteers are entitled to travel to and from the Sydney Marathon Running Show Expo at Olympic Park from Thursday 27 to Saturday 29 August on the public transport services listed below.  

Just show your travel pass issued by TCS Sydney Marathon when boarding services. 

  • Sydney Trains & NSW TrainLink Intercity services (non-booked services bounded by Bomaderry, Goulburn, Bathurst, Scone and Dungog stations) * NOTE: airport station access fee is not included. 
  • Sydney Metro services 
  • Regular route metropolitan and outer metropolitan bus services 
  • Sydney, Parramatta and Newcastle Light Rail services 
  • Sydney and Newcastle Ferries 

If you don't have your travel pass, you'll need to use an Opal card or contactless payment to travel on public transport. Your entitlement is valid on public transport services until 4am the next day. 

Note: an additional train station access fee applies for travel to or from Domestic and International Airport stations and is not covered by 2026 Sydney Marathon travel entitlements.

Sydney Metro services are high-frequency, driverless trains running between Sydney’s north-west and south-west via the city. 

The M1 Metro North West & Bankstown Line operates turn up-and-go Metro services between Tallawong, Chatswood and Sydenham from early morning until late.

Change at Central to connect with ‘Marathon Express’ train services towards Olympic Park.

The closest station to Sydney Showground is Olympic Park.

This includes standard timetabled services to and from Sydney Olympic Park, as well as direct ‘Marathon Express’ train services operating between Central and Olympic Park Station. 

Marathon Express services will run every 30 minutes at the following times:

  • Thursday 27 August: 8:00am – 8:30pm
  • Friday 28 August: 7:00am – 8:30pm 
  • Saturday 29 August: 7:30am – 4:30pm

T7 Olympic Park trains also run regularly between Lidcombe and Olympic Park every 10 minutes until late each day.

Trackwork

Planned trackwork is taking place on between Thursday 27 August and Saturday 29 August on the following lines and may affect how you travel to and from the event. Plan ahead using the Trip Planner.

Thursday 27 August (daytime): 

  • Hunter Line: Buses replace some trains between Muswellbrook and Maitland.

Friday 28 August

  • No planned trackwork

Saturday 29 August:

  • T1 Western Line: Saturday morning, buses replace trains between Richmond and Blacktown. Saturday evening, buses replace trains between Olympic Park and Ashfield. Trains run between Penrith and Olympic Park, between Richmond and Liverpool, and between Ashfield and the City. 
  • T2 Leppington & Inner West Line: Trains run between Leppington and Olympic Park via Granville, and between Leppington and Lidcombe via Regents Park. You may need to change trains to continue your journey. Saturday evening, buses replace trains between Olympic Park and Ashfield. 
  • T3 Liverpool & Inner West Line: Trains run between Leppington and Olympic Park via Granville, and between Leppington and Lidcombe via Regents Park. You may need to change trains to continue your journey. Saturday evening, buses replace trains between Olympic Park and Ashfield. 
  • T5 Cumberland Line: Saturday morning, buses replace trains between Richmond and Blacktown. 
  • T9 Northern Line: Saturday evening, buses replace trains between Epping and Ashfield. Blue Mountains Line Saturday evening, trains run between Blue Mountains Line stations and Blacktown only. 
  • Central Coast & Newcastle Line: Saturday evening, trains run between Central Coast & Newcastle Line stations and Hornsby only.

The following route buses run towards Olympic Park:

  • Route 525 runs between Parramatta and Lidcombe, change for trains to continue your trip to Olympic Park.
  • Route 526 runs between Burwood and Rhodes Shopping Centre via Sydney Olympic Park precinct and wharf. 
  • Route 533 runs between Sydney Olympic Park and Chatswood via Rhodes & North Ryde.

The closest wharf to Sydney Showground is Sydney Olympic Park Wharf. There is a connecting 526 bus to the venue or alternatively it is approximately a 40-minute walk (3.6km) from the wharf. 

F3 Parramatta River services run regularly to Olympic Park, but services are very popular and may reach capacity. Keep this in mind if you’re planning on catching an F3 Parramatta River service. Plan your trip and allow plenty of extra travel time or consider the alternative public transport options available. 

F3 Parramatta River ferries may be affected by low tide between Parramatta and Rydalmere and replaced by buses. Check for updates here

L1 Dulwich Hill Line

L1 Dulwich Hill Line light rail services run between Central Station (Grand Concourse) and Dulwich Hill via Darling Harbour and the Inner West. Services run regularly from 5am to 1am daily. Plan your trip using the Trip Planner.

L2 Randwick and L3 Kingsford Lines

L2 Randwick light rail services run between Circular Quay and Randwick via Central Station (Chalmers Street) and L3 Kingsford line services run between Circular Quay and Juniors Kingsford via Central Station (Chalmers Street). Change at Central for ‘Marathon Express’ trains to Olympic Park.

L4 Westmead and Carlingford Line

L4 Westmead and Carlingford Line light rail services run between Carlingford and Westmead via Parramatta CBD. Services run regularly from 5am to 1am daily. Plan your trip using the Trip Planner.

Alight at Parramatta Square and connect with a train service from Parramatta Station towards Lidcombe then Olympic Park.

Passengers are reminded that trams can’t stop quickly or easily – so please stop, listen and look around for trams and use designated pedestrian crossings.

Traffic may be heavier than usual on roads approaching Sydney Olympic Park as attendees travel to and from the event particularly during weekday morning and evening peak periods. 

Travel with your group and allow extra travel time on the M4, Parramatta Road, Homebush Bay Drive and Concord Road.

Changed traffic conditions

The nearest Taxi Rank is on Herb Elliott Avenue near the Pullman Hotel.

If you’re using taxis or rideshare, remember that roads may be closed within the precinct. Allow extra travel time due to the increased traffic expected in the precinct throughout the event, particularly during peak periods.

The closest car park to Sydney Showground is P6 on Australia Ave or P1 on Edwin Flack Ave.

If you have pre-booked a space, follow the directions of staff and have your parking ticket ready to show at the car park entry. 

If you haven’t pre-booked, follow the variable message signs within Sydney Olympic Park to the best available casual parking.
